Chapter5

Devon's body went cold as his heart ached, he never thought those words would hurt as much as they did right now. Phoenix glared at him, noticing how tense he was. "Nonsense! I would accept no such thing, you don't get to decide anything as you're a prisoner here." He told her sternly as his face was void of any emotions. "I don't want you as a mate if you don't treat me well." She glared. "You don't get to decide anything… not even choosing to be my mate or not." He told her as a smirk formed on his lips. Phoenix had expected his response and didn't feel concerned, she didn't want him to torture her as his mate so that she won't feel so much pain and anguish, she finally began to feel the pain beneath her feet a warm liquid seeped through them, she looked down and noticed it was her blood and she had just walked on broken pieces of glass. Devon got up from the chair and their eyes met once again before he walked towards the door stopping in his tracks. "Why did he still want her as his mate." She thought to herself "Don't take me back to that place again." Phoenix dared to say as Devon turned around as his lips curved into a frown. She didn't want to be chained down in a dark dungeon. "I never planned to do such, I have a much better way to punish you." He scowled at her before walking out of the door. "A nurse would be sent over to treat your wound." He said with his back still turned to her as he walked out of the room. Phoenix released her breath as she had no idea she had been holding it. She quickly sat down. Taking a look at her bleeding feet, she hissed in pain, seeing her blood on the floor reminded her of the scene back at the mating ceremony. Someone walked into the room, Phoenix snapped her head to a young lady dressed up as a nurse holding a tray in her hand, with a frown on her face which didn't bother Phoenix the very least, she just wanted the bleeding and the pain to seize as she already knew how much members of this pack hated her and that was the least of her worry. She wondered what Devon would do to her once she was finally out of this room. "Can I have a view of your foot?" The nurse asked and now sitting on a stool she had no idea had been in the room. She had a look at her injury and carefully picked out the pieces of glass under her foot, disinfecting the wound and finally bandaging it, she did the same for her other leg and stood up from her chair. "You shouldn't use your legs until they are completely healed." The woman instructed before walking out of the door leaving phoenix to her thoughts. ************ Devon had subjected Phoenix to be his slave which was humiliating, she never gave it a thought as it was better than being trained in a dark dungeon with little or no light. She could feel the hateful gaze of everyone she passed by, they never imagined she would stay alive to this moment as they wished she was killed. Every other servant in the house made her work harder than they did as a way of pouring out their anger. As she walked down the hall with a tray that carried a tea kettle and cup, she approached Devon's bedroom, she knocked, waiting for his response. "Come in." She heard him say and walked in, he sat at a corner sharpening his knife while whistling to a tune she hadn't heard of before. She placed the tray gently on the table beside him and poured the tea into the cup. "Have a taste of it." He ordered putting his knife into its sheath and looking up at her. "What?" She asked "You might have poisoned it." He said now staring at the tea cup suspiciously as she restrained herself from rolling her eyes. He made it a point of duty to ensure she has a taste of whatever food she brings to him to avoid being poisoned. Phoenix raised the cup gently from the tray and led it to her lips as she took a sip of the hot bland liquid that Devon loved so much, she finished the entire content and placed it back on the tray gently as Devon shifted his gaze to the tray as she poured in the tea. The silence enveloping them was normal although their wolves longed for each other, they fought against them resisting the will of their mating bond. She placed the cup on a coaster as she carried it, her hands slipped from them and they landed on his clothes. "Ahhhhh…. Are you blind?" He hissed as the tea drenched his clothes, Phoenix gasped in fear as she used a towel she had been holding to dab his clothes. "I'm sorry." She mouthed but that made him angrier as he pushed her away from him standing up from the chair. "Do you seriously have a death wish?" He yelled at her as her gaze glued to the floor. A knock on the door interrupted them as a young last walked in with a playful smile on her face as she enveloped Devon in a hug calming his fuming rage that eventually subsided. "Leave now!" Devon ordered Phoenix who stood up quickly and made her way to the door but suddenly felt dizzy as the world around her twirled and she fell to the ground succumbing to the darkness that welcomed her peacefully. Devon rushed to her and held her in his arms, shaking her vigorously but she didn't seem to respond. Tristian, the lady who had hugged him earlier walked towards them with a displeased look on her face as Devon held Phoenix in his arms. "What do you think you're doing?" She glared at him.
