Those words tore her heart into shreds, it was far more painful than the words her father had told her. She couldn't hold back the tears that crawled down her cheeks, pondering over and over why he hated her so much. Sweat dripped down her face and a little strand of hair stuck to her face, and the makeup she had on was now disheveled making her look like a clown. Devon had recalled watching his family and pack members in front of him some years back and he promised the survivors in his pack that he would lead them to have their revenge so that they can finally be at peace. When he heard Phoenix's father Alken was having a ceremony for his daughter and guests from different packs, he took that as a sign from the moon goddess for him to execute his plan which was victorious. Phoenix had never received love all her life and prayed to the moon goddess to let her find happiness but it doesn't look like she would, her father had hated her ever since she was born because her mother had died while bringing her to life, she had felt guilty about her mother's death all her life and accepted her father's abuse as her punishment. Even her pack members never had respect for her and treated her worse than a slave. If he wanted to take revenge on anyone, it had to be her father not her, she was innocent. "Your father murdered my family and members of my pack for unknown reasons, I'm quite sure he did it out of jealousy because the pack was thriving quite well," Devon growled at her as her eyes widened in shock. She knew how brutal her father had treated her but attacked another pack for an unknown reason, she had never thought he could do such. There had to be a justifiable reason that could explain why their pack was attacked, being jealous couldn't possibly be one of the reasons. Looking at her right now made him want to crush her bones to pieces and feed her flesh to street dogs that littered everywhere. "Maybe there's a misunderstanding, my father won't just attack your pack," Phoenix muttered looking up at him with fear in her eyes, trying to convince herself that what he said about her father was a lie. She tried not to think of her father doing such a thing but a part of her kept saying he had done it. She had never left the castle and was never allowed to leave her room only if she was taken to the 'dark room' where her torture took place frequently. "Oh, really so I made that up?" Devon yelled, slapping her on the face as tears fared to escape from her eyes but she held them back not wanting to seem weak, her skin felt like it had been stung by a thousand bees. "I don't know! I can't believe a stranger who suddenly started a killing spree and kidnapped me, telling me my father had killed his family, who in their right mind would believe you?" She yelled at him. "I'd rather hear it from my father than you!." Phoenix continued as she gazed at him. Devon suddenly burst into laughter and she gazed at him in confusion, wondering what was so funny about what she said. "You dumber than you look." He smirked at her as he leaned closer, brushing off the strands of hair glued to her sweaty face. "I'm sure you also had no idea he was planning to auction you at the ceremony… Do you?" He snickered as he stared at her mockingly, she stared at him in shock trying to comprehend what he just told her. "That's a lie." She screamed at him as she shook her head in denial. Her father couldn't do such to her, he had promised that he would give her a big ceremony where she would eventually find her mate and leave, there was no way he planned to sell her. "You're lying! It's all a lie." She cried as she put the pieces together, she had long awaited this day hoping it would be one of the happiest days she had ever had but she was wrong, she could never be happy, she never deserved to be happy. "Believe it or not it's none of my business, I just wanted you to realize how heartless your father is… so do you believe me now?" He asked coldly, but she remained silent as she was still trying to accept the truth that she had just been told. "I want to see him, please… I want him to tell me to my face." She implored praying silently that he would listen to her plea. "I don't think that'll be possible." He smirked, staring at her confused face in satisfaction. "What do you mean?" Phoenix asked curiously. Devon signaled to his guards who walked towards him holding a box in his hands and placed it on the floor close to where Phoenix away she glanced at it and back at Devon who smirked at her as she "Open it." He ordered but she hesitated, contemplating if it was a wise decision to open it but decided to open it anyways as she was curious to know what was inside. "What's inside?" Phoenix asked anxious to open the box as she swallowed the lump that had formed in her throat. "Open it and see for yourself," Devon told her as she looked back at the box as bit her lips which was a habit she had developed when she was anxious and didn't know what to do. She slowly reached for it and opened it and her heart sank, her body suddenly went cold as she stared into the box in despair. The pain that surged in her heart this time was so unbearable that she couldn't hold back her tears anymore. He was dead
