Chapter3

Phoenix stared at the horrific sight of her father's head, it looked like his tongue had been cut out before he was beheaded, his eyes were still wide open and they stared into hers in fear, she had never seen that expression on him until now. She looked up at Devon, unable to speak as she closed the lid, She stared at the floor as she kept recalling what she had just seen. Seeing her expression made Devon satisfied. Although his wolf was sad at what he was doing to their mate, it didn't change Devon's view on the matter. She had similar features to her dad which made him hate her more. "Your father tortured and beheaded my parents right before my eyes and I swore to take revenge on both you and that bastard you call father." Devon snarled, gripping her soft and silky hair with force, as she bawled her eyes out. "You have no idea how much I and my people suffered because of your father while you're living lavishly, you'll know what hell is soon, he deserved what happened to him," Devon said coldly letting go of her. "I would make sure you pass through a pain far worse than I did," Devon promised with determined eyes gazing down at Phoenix. "I assure you I'm nothing like my father and I've been through hell all my life." Phoenix hissed, becoming frustrated that he keeps comparing her to her father, she decided to stop crying as she wanted to be viewed as strong, crying made her look weak and she didn't like it. She needs Devon to know that she isn't like her father and doesn't deserve to be imprisoned like a criminal when she never did anything wrong. "Really?" Devon scoffed. "Feigning to be innocent and pleading to be set free…. You're just like him, disgusting…." Devon spat as he glared at Phoenix disdainfully. He hated how she acted innocently, it made him boil in anger as he clenched his fists suppressing himself from hitting her. " Please believe me… I swear on my life that I know nothing about it." Phoenix cried but Devon wasn't going to have a change of mind. Revenge was a fire that burned in his heart and would seize after its quest had been completed. "Watch over her," Devon ordered his guards and walked out with Leroy right behind him. Staring at her was making him have a soft spot for her due to their mating bond, he needed space to rethink and also attend to other needs of his pack. He didn't want to stay around her as memories of that day flashed through his mind and anger enveloped him, if he stayed with her any longer than now, there was no doubt he would kill her. Phoenix watched him leave and her heart ached more as tears dropped from her eyes, she hated the way everyone treats her but there was nothing she could do rather than keep silent. But her mate treating her this way was so unbearable as she had once longed to be in the solace of her mate's arms and feel safe. Everyone in Devon's pack knew Phoenix had been captured and detested her so much as her father had killed relatives of theirs and they held grudges against her. They want her to suffer the same way they had and this was the perfect chance to make it happen. The men guarding her looked down at her spitefully as she pleaded to be set free. "My elder brother died by your father's sword…. I was just five and he died right in front of me, I could never forgive you nor your father for what he made us pass through." One of the guards muttered angrily as he yanked Phoenix's hair making her groan in pain. They didn't know she had also befallen her father's cruel hands as they were blinded by revenge. "I've been through hell myself so don't you dare think you've been through it alone," Phoenix yelled at him as he slapped her hard. "Don't talk to me like that you witch, you deserve to die painfully." He screeched, slapping her randomly until he got tired and moved aside with tears in his eyes. "My father died because of that bastard you call father… I hate you." Another screamed kicking her in the belly and she gasped in pain before she could recover, she was hit by others, they wanted her to feel the pain they had gone through because of their lost relatives, their pack had a permanent scar that could not be erased, it would forever be a dark day remembered in the history of their pack. "I hate you." One of the guards snarled at her using a sharp knife to pierce the skin on her hand as she screamed in pain, warm blood seeping out as he slit a section of her hand. All she had felt since she was a child was pain but what she felt right now was far more than what she could call pain. Phoenix stopped struggling as the guards vent their anger on her, she knew there was no way out of this and it was hopeless to struggle. They hit her with whips that cut through her flesh causing her to whimper and bleed, if this was her destiny to end this way then so be it, memories of her father torturing her replayed in her mind as she was gradually weakening and slowly slipping out of consciousness and succumbing to the darkness that awaits her. Her old wounds that were already healing were reopened and pain flushed through her body. They poured warm salty water on her causing her to scream as her wounds felt like they were burning, the pain made her light-headed as she struggled to be free but the chains made her ankles and wrists bleed also holding her in place. The pain she felt was twice as worse as what her father had inflicted on her.
