Chapter 17

My eyes were blood shot from all the crying and the lack of sleep. I laid my head against the pillow, not crying nor thinking I ran out of tears around one. My body was drained, I couldn’t even move my body. I spent another ten minutes avoiding overthinking, everything is my fault it always is. If I hadn’t gotten drunk I would never have met Eunice, if it weren’t for Esther I would have never ran off, none of this would have happened If I never liked girls out of league, that’s what I get. The door swung open with force drawing me back from my thoughts. “Good morning love.” I turned my gaze from my bed to her, Charlotte stood there with a wide smile, she looked overly happy. Her hair was tied in a messy bun, her skirt stopped in the middle of her thighs with the way her t-shirt was covering most of the skirt, you’d think she didn’t wear anything underneath. “Morning.” I whispered the words out my mouth. Her eyes locked with mine then I quickly looked away. “Ruby you look like s**t, did you sleep?” I shifted uncomfortable on my bed before finally getting up, I sat on the edge of the bed avoiding her eyes, I was always a bad liar and she always noticed when I tried to. “Yeah I did. Anyway why are you here this early.” I spoke with my gaze fixed on the floor. “You really underestimate me as your best friend. You didn’t sleep something is wrong, what happened.” Charlotte began to walk towards the bed, She sat down beside me. “I’m great Carrot, I did sleep.” I gave her a weak smile then looked at my hands. “Then explain the stream of tears on your cheeks.” she held my face in her palm forcing me to look her directly in the eyes, I shut my eyes trying to shut the images invading my mind, I felt tears building up again I shook my head freeing it from Charlotte hand, I found her eyes fixed on me studying me when I opened my eyes. I sighed before getting off the bed, “Morning allergies, it’s nothing.” I almost felt my body fall with the abrupt movement, but I quickly recovered before Charlotte could help. When I turned I found a worried carrot, she tilted her head then she looked up and met my eyes. Her face expression changed from worried to sad, her mouth opened “Ruby, I—” “I’m okay Char, just allergies. I’m f*****g great.” I stormed off to the bathroom locking the bathroom door behind me, I lowered myself against the door, pressing my feet against my chest. My head rested on top of knees as I felt the burning in my eyes. I wiped away the tears from my face and got up from the floor, no matter how it hurt I had to let it go. I carried myself lazily to the shower, the cool water hit my body and it felt good, If sleeping in the shower was possible things would be better. When I walked out of the bathroom Charlotte was sleeping on my bed, I gave her light smiled then walked over to my closet. Charlotte cleared her throat and spoke, “Are we going to talk about it?” I pulled the shirt over my body the towel still wrapped around my waist I turned to her. “There’s nothing to talk about, so what story got you here so early?” I resumed dressing up pulling the short under my towel, when I finished I threw the towel over the closet doors. “We’re not done with this just yet though. I came to tell you that we were having a girl’s night and day today at your place.” she jumped in excitement, I will certainly get tired of Charlotte. “I’m definitely going to get feed up with you.” I walked over to the bed to grab my phone. “Oh wasn’t I specific. It’s not only me, Eunice and Esther are both coming.” I froze, what did she mean I would spend the night with them, in my room for the whole night. “So much fun, want to invite Natalie too?” I murmured while walking over to the door. “If you have a problem I can cancel, mostly with Esther.” Charlotte stopped me half to the door, I know she’s just looking out for me and forcing me actually have fun, without Charlotte pushing me when I need it, college would have been boring. “There’s no reason to not include a friend ‘cause of something that never happened between us. Come on, I’m hungry I need food.” I got ahold of her hand intertwining it with mine I dragged her out of the room. I made us breakfast, omelettes for everyone and toast. Annie joined us as we were in the middle of breakfast, as you can already guess my parents were already gone. “So, when are the two coming here.” I took a bite from my toast, Charlotte took her eyes from the plate and mouthed a soon. Breakfast went by really well due to the fact that Charlotte didn’t speak once, she kept stuffing her mouth with eggs, girl loved her eggs and I actually managed to focus on my food despite the fact I was tired, I still composed myself. Annie left for Grace’s, her current favourite friend she said.
