Chapter 3 The Bodyguard
It dawned on me while driving that Aden knew something. I didn't have the chance to ask him, seeing as we were interrupted by Liam’s beta reminding us of the time before we needed to head to school. This was my senior year and yet I still did not find my mate. My life has been taking a turn for the worst.
Our high school is open to all five factions. There are other schools around us as well, some who are open to the factions and others who know nothing of the supernatural world. The human faction helps keep the supernatural hidden and safe to humans. Not all humans are kin to those who are different.
I pulled into the parking lot, parked my Jeep and just stared at all the students walking and laughing together. I used to be just like them, free and happy. All I feel now is anger and hunger. f**k my life.
“Anna..” I turned to my left to see Aden leaning against his bike, with his helmet in his hands. He looked so much like dad, his hair sleeked back and strong cheekbones. No wonder my best-friend Amber had a crush on him,
I grabbed my bag and stepped out, getting an itch in my throat, I could feel the burning of thirst and my teeth bare against the inside of my mouth. I licked my lips and cleared my throat feeling Aden’s eyes on me.
“What’s up?” I said closing the door and leaning back.
“Your hunger, that’s what’s up.” Aden said annoyed. Here we go…
“Seriously? I’m fine, I haven’t attacked anybody. I’m not going to anyways; I made a vow.”
“Yeah and it still doesn’t make sense to me.”
“Can we talk about this later?”
“Yeah.” Aden said, I was about to start walking towards the entrance.
“Wait…” I closed my eyes, irritation growing inside me.
“There’s someone I want you to meet first.” He trailed off and I turned around to face him.
“You want to do a meet and greet right now?” He rolled his eyes and walked towards me.
“Yes, he’s going to be like a bodyguard.” Oh, he cannot be serious.
“Really? You hired a babysitter for me?” I scoffed at him crossing my arms.
“No. I hired a bodyguard to keep you in line. We don’t want you lashing out and starting a war.”
“So, a babysitter.” I said slowly, causing Aden to just glare at me.
“You’re a pain in my ass.” We both laughed, not even a second later another bike pulled up by Aden’s. The engine purring to silence, as the rider got off and walked towards us, taking his helmet off.
The scent that blew my way was ridiculous, the smell of Coconut and shea butter filled my nostrils. This guy stood in front of me shaking Aden’s hand, his warm brown eyes sent a strange calm wave across my entire body. What the hell was happening. Do not even get me started on his voice, sounded so deep I got chills. I did not realize I was staring till he said “hi”.
I snapped back to my senses, smiled, and said hi back.
“This is Beta Antoine Ryder. He’s your babysitter.” Aden said, causing Antoine to chuckle.
“Funny.” I growled through a smile.
“Its nice to meet you Anna.” He smiled. Wait, does he have an accent.
“Are you from our pack? I don’t think I’ve ever met you.” I bit my lip.
“No, I from a pack down in Mexico. But I moved here to join this pack for protection of my own.”
“He’s a good fighter. Born a Beta and became a pack warrior. Then Beta training.” Aden chirped in. I was told Beta training is the toughest training a werewolf goes through. There are werewolves who are born to the Beta rank and those who are chosen as Betas.
“Okay, well we need to get to class.” I started walking towards the doors, looking through my backpack for my phone that was vibrating the entire time we were talking.
“Somebody must be popular.” I nearly jumped hearing him by me.
“No, I’m a sore loser.” I joked.
“So, your brother gave me access to your background.” They did a background talk on me, making me feel like a criminal.
“You did a background check on me?” I said as I got to my locker.
“Yes and no. It’s not every day you get hired to be the bodyguard of a hybrid.” He trailed off. “No offense…” he said looking away.
The way he said “hybrid” rolled off his tongue in disgust. I continued to grab my books and everything. All the while Antoine just leaned against the locker next to me, looking around, not saying a word. A few girls came up to Antoine, but he ignored them.
“So…what’s your story?” I asked, closing my locker. He looked at me and I could see pain and anger in his eyes, I noticed he had a scar on the right side of his face close to his eye.
“What’s first period?” He ignored my question, how rude.
“Umm…” I fiddled around in my bag for my schedule. I hate first day of school. “Wait, you have the same classes as me?”
“Yeah, courtesy of your brother.” I was beyond annoyed at this point. I cannot even be trusted now.
