THE HIDDEN TREASURES.
A chilly morning it was as could be expressed by the cool wind waivering all over. It was a celebration day for the two families and friends. This was one of the numerous celebrations they had. Edward's family hurriedly prepared, dressed and drove to Walter's family where the celebration was to take place. Walter's family was ready for the visitors.
Edward's family led by George Edwards, Jennifer his wife, Cynthia their daughter and Celestine, Jennifer's elder sister. The two families were also accompanied by David Carlos(Derick's friend) and his uncle Timothy Tyrus, Joyce Pet( Cynthia's friend) and her mother Magdalene Levys. A warm welcome they received clearly showed that everything was in order. Kisses, hugs rendered the house. Foods and drinks, all kinds, were served.
After the meals, kids could go out to have their time playing while the adults could remain indoors discussing the progress of the two mighty families. “You can go and play your games but do not leave the compound,” stressed Dorcas to her son, Derrick as he ran after his fellows out of the door.
Outside, Derrick, Cynthia, David and Pet played kinds of games. When they were now bored with their normal games, they ran into a forest nearby. Cynthia's idea it was. In the forest, they played hide and seek games and later swum in the river found in the midst of the forest. They became fond of each other and swore to be friends forever. It was almost 2 pm when they decided to go back to the house.
In the house, the routine discussions became lengthy in that they forgot almost everything including the children. Lunch was served and all went to the dinning hall. On surrounding the table, they realized four seats were unoccupied. “Where are the kids? Phoebe, can you call the kids kindly,” ordered Dorcas. On the door out, Phoebe saw the kids entering the compound through the gate.
“Where have you been?” Phoebe asked but she received no answer as the kids looked sorry and scared.
“Promise you won't tell my mom...,” said Derrick.
“You know you can always count on me little boy,” Phoebe assured the kids.
“We were in the forest and we really enjoyed every bit of it.”
“You know it's not right because you've gone against your mom's instructions." Phoebe continued, “Quickly get in now, your parents are already dining.”
“Thanks much nanny, you are the best.”
They rushed to the dinning hall and joined their parents. There was no much to talk about after the meal and it was departure time for Edward's family and friends. They appreciated and thanked the host. The kids were also given time to hug themselves for a bye. They all laughed at the kids' affections.
Life went on normally after the 'convention'. Jennifer began to have a strange feeling about her sister Celestine. Her behaviours had changed since the 'convention' day. She had a mixed attitude. She seemed happy but at some times she seemed sad and confused.
“Hey sis, I've been monitoring your attitude of late and I really don't think everything is fine, what could be the problem?” Jennifer really loved and cared for her sister.
“Nothing, I'm fine,” she walked away leaving her sister stranded. Jennifer though puzzled, ignored her sister. She could not really understand Celestine but what could she do to convince her tell her what the problem was! The two sisters lived suspiciously all that long.

It was again time for another 'convention'. This time, it was scheduled at Edward's. Preparations as usual were made in time. The Walters and friends arrived in time and as usual, kisses and hugs of love were expressed. “Hello family and friends, I'm pleased to host you here today, you are all welcomed to this humble home. Feel free.” They all happily applauded and got to their seats.
As usual, the drinks were served after which the kids excused themselves. On that day, David did not attend the convention. The other kids were not happy since they did not know why David was not with them. They decided, without their parents' approvals, to go to David's house and check on him. David lived with his uncle at the town suburbs across the forest. David could not be with his friends because his uncle was not around so he was to take care of the home and look after the geese. The four friends decided to go swim in the river in the forest before which they climbed trees, played hide and seek and enjoyed other games. This time, the games were endless. They realized too late that it was already nightfall.
“Oh My God! It's already late, what should we do?” Worriedly asked Cynthia
“It will be very late before we reach home,” retorted Derrick.
“My mother will skin me alive,” cried Joyce.
“I think I have an idea,”
“Which is?”They all enquired.
Continued David, “We will go to my home, then when my uncle returns, he will take you to your parents.”
“Great idea,” supported Derrick.
Dorcas felt uneasy and could not stand it that her son was away upto that late. Everyone was worried about the kids' whereabouts apart from Celestine who seemed relaxed. Dorcas called the police and ordered them to search for the children. It was already 9 pm and the children were nowhere to be seen.
The children sat comfortably telling stories at David's place. They didn't have even the slightest idea of what their parents were going through. Finally, Timothy arrived home. He was really surprised to see the children at his house by that time. He perfectly knew that something must have gone wrong somewhere. He ordered for an explanation which was vividly given out by David. He suddenly rushed the children to Cynthia's house.
Worries and mischief loomed at Edward's home. Dorcas, due to her temperamental attitude, left the room for balcony. Jennifer and Magdalene followed her.
George on the other side, with unending calls, padded to his bedroom.
