Lyssa Nearly running, I climbed into the passenger seat. “I am so happy it’s you picking me up.” Laughing, Emilia side-eyed me as she pulled away from the curb. “It’s only been a day, girl, you can’t have missed me that much.” Slouching in my seat, I sighed. “Except I did. Goose said he would be back to give me a ride to class this morning, and instead, his mom showed up at the house to bring me a bag of stuff from my apartment that Goose packed for me.” Raising an eyebrow, she glanced over at me a moment before looking back to the road. “I’m sorry, but Sophia’s not so bad. I am sure her giving you a ride wasn’t so bad.” I shook my head. “Oh, the ride was fine, that was nice of her. But I wasn’t really dressed, making her first impression of me, I am sure, not good at all.” “I’m sure it wasn’t that bad. You at least had something on and weren’t naked, right?” “Yeah, I had my underwear on under one of his t-shirts.” Laughing, she waved me off. “Oh, I am sure you are fine.” Turning her car off the main road, she pulled through our favorite drive-through, getting enough food for the two of us, and I am guessing the two guys still following us that had been following me all day, but also the other two guys that I am guessing have been following her. Once we had everything, she drove us to Goose’s house, parking her car in his driveway. Before getting out, she separated our food from what she got for the guys. Handing me our food, I headed inside with it while she gave the guys their food, then followed me inside. The two of us were eating inside while the guys stayed outside the house. As we finished up, I checked my phone for the millionth time today. Goose still hadn’t answered me. Sighing, I set my phone down and leaned back in my seat. “Do you know what’s going on?” Looking up from her food, she watched me while chewing what was in her mouth slowly. After what felt like forever and what seemed to be the hardest bite of food to chew up and swallow, she shook her head. “Whatever it is, I am sure if the guys want us to know, they will tell us. Otherwise, I wouldn’t worry about it.” “What? How can I not worry about it? Sophia said I wasn’t allowed to go back to the house because Goose said it wasn’t safe. Why isn’t it safe? And why do I have two guys following me around all of a sudden?” Sighing, she set her sandwich down. “Look, D told me the same thing when he dropped a bag off for me at his place. Whatever happened, I can only imagine the guys had a feeling it was going to happen. It’s why Goose brought you here, and I was made to stay at D’s last night. And whatever it is, they will tell us if they feel we need to know. Otherwise, you need to trust that Goose will do whatever he has to do to keep you safe. Including telling you what happened if he thinks you need to know. If he doesn’t, then trust that he chooses not to for your own safety. Sometimes the less you know, the better.” Picking back up her sandwich, she shoved the last remaining bite or two in her mouth. While she worked on chewing her food, she busied herself with cleaning up her area at the table. When she was done, she headed into the front room, effectively ending that conversation and leaving me to finish my food and clean up my area on my own. When I was done, I followed her into the front room where she was scanning the shelf of movies. “How about a comedy?” “Sure.” I sat down on the couch, not really in the mood to watch a movie. Not when I still wanted to know what was going on and why Goose hadn’t answered me yet. Heck, why wasn’t he back home yet? He left before the sun was up this morning and didn’t come back when he said he would. I know I am still getting to know Goose, but so far in the time I have known him, he has never said he was going to do something or be somewhere and not do it or be there. Emilia started one of the movies and sat down on the other end of the couch. Not paying any attention to the movie, I sat there staring at the screen while my mind went off in all kinds of different reasons as to why Goose wasn’t back yet and why he hadn’t answered me, why D and Sophia told us both that it wasn’t safe to go back to our house but wouldn’t say why. By the time the movie ended, my head hurt from what I am sure is overthinking everything. “Want to watch another one?” Shaking my head, I got up from the couch. “No, I think I am just going to go to bed.” “Okay.” Leaving her on her own, I closed myself in Goose's bedroom. Stealing another one of his shirts, I changed out of my clothes before shutting the light off and lying down. Not long after I heard Emilia leave, and sometime, I don’t know when, I dozed off into a kind of sleep. I was asleep, but not completely. I was awake enough to hear when the garage door opened and closed a few minutes before the sound of someone moving through the house, making their way into the bedroom. Opening my eyes, I watched as Goose went straight into the bathroom. The door closed before the light was turned on, allowing a small amount of light to seep out from under it. Then the shower was turned on. Sitting up in bed, I listened for a minute as I debated on waiting for him to get done or not. Deciding not to wait, I flung the blankets back and climbed out of bed. I eased the bathroom door open enough for me to slip inside and close the door behind me.
