Chapter 1
Today was the official day back at school. I met up with my best friend Rue in the parking lot where we always meet, before walking towards the school entrance. She had so much to talk about. Her 17th birthday was 1 month ago and she wouldn't stop blabbing about her wolf, which just made me giggle at her excitement.
"She is so awesome and cool and we think exactly the same!" she says, jumping around me while we walk through the hallways. "I'm glad you think so, Rue. It would be unfortunate if you thought otherwise", I told her, giggling. We keep on walking to our lookers and I stop listening to her somewhere on the way there. While opening my locker, it suddenly smashed closed in my face and I spun around to see Darson gaze at me. He grabs me and holds me against the locker with one of his hands on my waist and the other one on my shoulder, one pushing and the other pulling me to him. He moves his face to my neck, inhaling my scent, making me uncomfortable in his arms.
"Please Darson, leave me alone'' I told him with my voice cracking, trying to push him away from me without any luck. I look to my right where Rue is standing with two of Darson's friends around her, also making her uncomfortable while being trapped in her locker and unable to escape.
Darson is completely busy with breathing in my scent from my neck and doesn't care much about other students staring while passing by, making me flush with the embarrassment he has included me in. I couldn’t let this go on so I took a chance and kicked my knee up to hit him right on his jewels, making him fall to his knees in pain. I did the same movement again, only to hit his nose this time, causing him to fall backwards clutching his nose.. I took off towards Rue and the other two guys, who turned their heads too late, giving me the chance of tackling them to the ground. I grabbed Rue's hand and started running away from them, hoping they wouldn't catch up to us too fast, giving us a chance to hide.
We ran down the hallway towards the school's gym and rushed inside the girl's dressing room, which had a codelock to it, making it the perfect room to keep away from them. Soon after closing the door, we could hear growls and banging on the door. "Daphne! You know you can’t hide from me forever!" Darson roared. Cringing to his words, we moved back further to recover our breaths and to calm down a little bit.
The bell for class rang and one of Darson's friends had already made the point that they should get to class, before getting into trouble. We heard footsteps leaving and then it became quiet. So, assuming they left, we walked quietly to the door and peeked out. Nothing in sight, thank the goddess.
We walked out and tried to make it to class on time when Darson and his guys walked out from a corner in the hallway, not very happy. We froze to the spot, just looking at them as they hadn't moved towards us yet, trying to read what they were about to do. Just as Darson took a step forward, a voice I wasn't familiar with was coming from behind me and Rue. "Shouldn't you guys be in class?" the voice said, making us turn around to see a young man, with a serious look on his face. He had a sharp jawline, dark hair just like mine, silver sparkling eyes and was properly dressed. He looked too young to be a teacher, which I first assumed he was, judging from the way he asked the question.
"Who are you to tell me what to do?" Darson said with a growl, almost provocative. "I didn't ask that, do you have hearing problems?" The man replied calmly, not giving any worry to Darson's growl, taking me by surprise at his daring response.
Rue and I looked at each other and I think we thought the same thing. Darson stormed past us to stand in the face of the man who was still unknown, with both guys behind us, keeping us from leaving.
"Who do you think you are talking to prick?" Darson spat in his face. The man only stood there and looked bored at him before turning his eyes to me, which Darson, of course, noticed. He looked back at me and it was like a lightbulb had turned on above his head. He smirked and walked towards me, still frozen to the spot.
He walked behind me only to press himself up against me and inhaled my scent, tracing his hands up and down my body and later smirking back at the man. "We were only playing'', he said, before spinning me to face his lustful eyes. I was swallowed by fear and while I tried to figure out what he was up to, he crashed his lips on mine. I had no intention of being his little puppet in this lifetime, so I bit his bottom lip hard, making it bleed. "You b*tch!" he shouted and slapped me hard across the cheek, making me fall to the floor face first with a hard thud.
The man growled and was now suddenly standing over me defensively and I could see he was not happy with what just happened, breathing heavily while staring at Darson with a killing look. I scrambled myself backwards to get back on my feet, away from underneath his protectiveness. Rue helped me up and she was checking me like a concerned mother would, spinning me around checking for bruisers. Looking back at the boys, something had scared Darson and his friends as they started to take steps back from the unknown man with a look on their faces that would indicate they had seen something horrific. Soon after, they rushed away like scared girls, making me and Rue wonder what had just happened. He turned back around to us with the relaxed face he had the first time he arrived. He walked to me and I was a little taken aback as he caressed my cheek that Darson hit, making me take a step back.
"I would never hurt you" he said as I looked hesitant. "I'm Keegan Silver," he said, reaching out his hand for me to shake. Of course, his last name was Silver with those silver eyes. "I'm Daphne Hopkins", I answered while shaking his hand. He let go and his eyes scanned me from head to toe. "You are Alpha Preston Hopkin’s daughter, next in line for the title" he said with a little surprised tone while trying to read my expression, which made me question how he knew that.
"Y..yes I am, can I ask how you know that? I haven't seen you here before?" tilting my head a little to the side out of curiosity, waiting for him to answer. "I have been around for a while, just haven't had a reason to approach until now" he says, which just makes me more confused. He slightly smirked again and passed me to walk through the hallway to wherever he was going. I just watched his back walk away from us and my mind was still confused.
Rue interrupted me in my thoughts and we headed towards the cafeteria since it was already lunch, while talking quietly about what had just happened, not wanting to share any gossip with other students. We pick up our trays of food and sit down at a round table in a corner, spreading our stuff on the rest of the bench to prevent anyone else sitting with us.
The thought of Keegan never left my mind and it started to bug me that he knew who I was, well after sharing my name, but I think my last name is what gave me away. We kept talking about what happened and I could feel stares drilling into my neck and it didn't stop. Not long after, I could hear heels approaching us. A really annoying and pitchy voice spoke up, making my ears almost bleed. "Keep your hands off my Darson b*tch!" she yelled at me like I was deaf. I turned around to look at who had a whistle stuck in their throat. She had her dark red hair half up in a ponytail with curls falling down past her shoulders. She was dressed in very inappropriate clothing and high, pink slutty heels. I looked at her disgusted at what I saw.
"Even if I could Bellatrix, I don't want to", I rolled my eyes at her. I picked up my stuff and started to walk towards the entrance when she suddenly pulled my hair back, feeling my scalp burn from the hair leaving it. I hissed at the pain and turned around to punch Bellatrix right in her face. She fell to the floor clutching her nose, which now appeared to be broken and was bleeding heavily.
She looked up at me with hatred and tears in her eyes, "You broke my f*cking nose you slut!". Her high-pitched voice stinging my ears. "Don't pull my hair next time then you wh*re", I told her before turning on my heel and walking out to the hallways. Her friends caressed her to get back up to her feet and wiped off the blood dripping from her nose, before she shoved them aside, making them fall to their asses. She then charged at me with full hatred and paws first. I froze to my spot knowing I had no chance against her and her wolf, knowing I still didn't have one.
Just as she was about to reach me, I closed my eyes waiting for the pain to come. I heard bones cracking and a snarl, but nothing happened, I only heard a squeal and a thud. Someone had shoved her away from me and threw her against a wall. At this point, I had not moved and did not make a sound. I only stood there and watched Bellatrix’s wolf gather herself up to her feet from the floor. She looked up to snarl at the man that had thrown her at the wall and then her whole attitude changed and she submitted, before darting away whimpering. When she was out of sight, I noticed that the person saving me had already started to walk away. I caught up to him and realized it was the man from before, Keegan.
"You again" was the only thing that left my mouth when I should have thanked him, but that was not a natural thought in my mind.
"You are welcome" he said coldly, passing by me to keep walking.
"Thank you" I whispered and I knew he heard me, as he turned his head a little to the side to hear it better.
