Chapter 1
Julia had never felt so elated. After months of waiting and hoping, she had finally received the news she had been dreaming of. The small, positive sign on the pregnancy test meant that she and Klaus were going to have a baby. Julia couldn’t wait to share the news with him. Their marriage had been filled with love and laughter for the past three years, and this new addition to their family felt like the perfect next step.
As she drove home, her heart raced with excitement. She imagined the look on Klaus’s face when she told him. She parked the car and practically skipped to the front door. She was so excited she almost forgot to unlock it.
Inside, the house was quiet. Julia could hear the faint hum of the air conditioning as she hurried upstairs. She threw open the bedroom door, her joy bubbling over.
But what she saw next stopped her in her tracks. Klaus was in bed with her sister, Martha. Julia’s world tilted on its axis. Her heart dropped into her stomach, and she felt a cold numbness spreading through her.
Martha quickly scrambled out of the bed, pulling on her clothes with a look of guilt and fear. She avoided Julia’s eyes as she hurried out of the room, her footsteps echoing down the hallway.
Klaus looked up from the bed, his face flushed with a mixture of surprise and annoyance. He got up and walked toward Julia, his expression hardening.
“What are you doing here?” Klaus snapped, his voice sharp. “You’re supposed to be at work.”
Julia stood there, frozen, tears welling up in her eyes. The shock was too much; she couldn’t find her voice. She had come home to share the most joyous news of her life, only to find her husband in bed with her sister. The pain was overwhelming.
Klaus’s face twisted in anger. “Have you turned deaf or something? Why are you back so early?”
Julia’s heart shattered. She tried to speak, but the words choked in her throat. She had never imagined that Klaus would betray her like this, especially with someone so close to her. The betrayal was too raw, too painful to process.
“How could you do this to me?” Julia’s voice cracked as she fought back tears. “Why Martha? Why did you have to do this?”
Klaus’s face twisted in anger. “You know what, Julia? I don’t care. You’re the one who’s been unfaithful. I’ve seen the pictures, the texts. I know about your assistant, Marcus.”
“I’ve told you repeatedly that Marcus is just my assistant! I’ve never cheated on you, and I never would. I love you, Klaus.”
“No,” Klaus cut her off, his voice final. “I’ve had enough. You’re nothing but a slut, and I have every right to cheat if you’re cheating too. I’ve already asked my lawyer to prepare the divorce papers. It’s over.”
Julia felt her legs give way beneath her. She sank to the floor, tears streaming down her face. The shock had taken away her ability to think clearly, let alone explain the truth to Klaus. The word “divorce” hung in the air like a heavy fog, tearing apart her world.
She looked up at Klaus, her eyes pleading, but he turned away from her. Julia wanted to tell him about the baby, but the shock and pain were too overwhelming. She remained silent, unable to speak, as Klaus walked away. The house, once filled with hope and dreams, now felt empty and cold.
Julia stayed on the floor, her tears soaking into the carpet. How could Klaus betray her so cruelly? The realization that her own sister was involved made it even more unbearable. She had sacrificed so much for him, only to be repaid with such a brutal betrayal.
She cried until her head started to ache and dragged herself to the room they had prepared for their future children. Klaus had packed her things, and she understood that they would no longer share a bed. She collapsed onto the bed, feeling the weight of her shattered dreams.
The next morning, Julia woke up with a throbbing headache. Her brain replayed the previous day's events, and a small, sad smile pulled at her lips.
"This must be a dream," she murmured to herself.
But the loud bang on the door jolted her back to reality. Her heart sank as she went to open it.
“Here are the papers,” Klaus said flatly, handing over the divorce papers without meeting her gaze.
Julia stared at him, struggling to comprehend what was happening. Was this really the man she had fallen in love with?
“Are you sure you want to do this, Klaus?” she asked, though she wasn’t really expecting an answer.
“Yes, I want to,” he said curtly before turning and walking away.
As Klaus left her doorstep, tears streamed down Julia’s face. She placed the papers on her bed, hoping that he would change his mind.
Days passed, and Klaus did not return home. Julia tried to reach him, but his phone was always off. Her hope began to fade, and with a heavy heart, she decided to sign the divorce papers, leaving a letter behind.
