That night, we slept at the palace.
I was in my old room. Daniel was sleeping on the floor, not taking my offer to come to the bed. According to him, it was inappropriate for the princess to sleep on the bed with a man. I reminded him that he was, in fact, my man now, but that i***t stubbornly stayed sprawled on the floor, annoying the hell out of me.
Resh was in the next room, where Samala, my old maid used to stay. He seemed exhausted, so he went to bed earlier than any of us. When I went to check on him, he was snoring.
I looked down at Daniel from the bed. He was staring at the ceiling, his hands folded behind his head, one leg up and on the top of the other leg. "Can't sleep?"
"Seems like you can't either." He moved his eyes to look at me, without so much as moving a muscle.
"I would, if you stop being stubborn and get up here. How can I sleep when my best friend is on the floor?"
"I told you. In case of emergency, I can wake up fast if I am on the floor."
"Right. Because the bed is supposed to drug you to an eternal sleep." I rolled my eyes.
"Just go to sleep."
"Okay, then, I'm coming to the floor with you." I grabbed my blankets. Before I could do anything, Daniel was getting up.
"Okay, okay, you won."
I smirked. If that was all it took to get him to bed, I would have done that sooner.
We laid, side by side for a while. "I want to meet Savin." I said.
He looked at me, turning his whole face this time. "Savin? Why?"
"There is something I have to talk with him."
"And you can't tell it to me?" He asked, sounding a little hurt.
I could understand him. If he kept secrets from me, I would also be hurt.
"It's nothing important." I said. I didn't think he would understand if I told him. He would try to protect me if anything happened. But I wanted Savin to kill me if I got out of control. Daniel would be outraged if I even suggested that.
"Well, seemes like you have a new best friend now." Daniel said.
"I do, in fact." I said. "I met these cute children when I was staying at Lord Draken's mansion. Kylan and Kahlee are twins. They have a little brother. His name is Naeoh. He is so cute."
"He ish sho cute," he mocked my tone. I laughed out loud. Wait. Was he jealous?
"So, I now have three best friends. And I have a brother. And I also have my Chosen One. So, I guess you are not my best friend anymore."
"Who are you? I don't know you. Don't talk to me. I'm sleeping." He turned his back to me, making me laugh. I laid down and snuggled him from behind.
"Get used to this," I said, feeling him stiffen a little. "You are mine now."
He relaxed under my touch. "We have the eternity to do that."
"I guess we have." I said, drifting off.
_
I was chasing my sister and her friend. I attacked them, careful not to damage any of them too much.
I saw my sister slowing down. Then she gained her speed again. I chased them down to their school. They rounded the corner. I started to chase them, but somebody stopped me. It was Jennings. "The kid is not here. Go other way."
I turned, but was attacked by her friend. I blasted his shoulder, but he dodged it to the side, making the wound minor. He still screamed.
Then Savin came. I rolled my eyes. "What do you want?" I asked. "She made the blood oath." he said.
I released her friend, who was losing his conscious.
Savin stared right at me. "Don't seek, Nasha. You can't afford to perish anymore."
_
I jolted awake, a scream stuck in my throat.
Daniel was still sleeping beside me, his breath soft and steady. After I calmed my racing heart down, I got off the bed and went to the kitchen to drink some water.
I expected to see guards posted everywhere outside my room, but strangely, I did not encounter any of them. Not a single soul was present in the hallways. Strange, indeed.
I went to the kitchen. Even the kitchen was empty. All the lights were out. I knew where the lamps and candles were, but my instincts told me to hurry the hell up and get out from there, not minding the dark.
I drank some water and hurried down the hall. The silence felt like it was watching me. I put my arms around myself to warm me up a little in the chilly hallway. I chuckled to myself. If Cicily was here, she would say that this was the perfect situation to sneak up and kill somebody in the sleep. She was a perfect assassin with a clean record, alongside Andrea.
Wait.
The lack of guards, servants and light. No way.
I let out my power, but it didn't go beyond the walls because they we fused with insfi stones. I silently ran to my room. I did not know who was the target, but there was definitely an attack happening tonight. Maybe it had already happened. Who could be the target? Me? Daniel? Resh?
I threw open the door to my room. Daniel was still sleeping. I shook him awake. As it turned out, he was right. If he was on the floor, he would be up by now.
"What?" He asked sleepily.
"An attack." I said. "Somebody send an assassin."
He was wide awake in a minute, grabbing me and checking me from head to toe. "Are you all right?"
"Yeah." I brushed him off and grabbed my dagger. "Resh." I said.
He followed me as I barged in to Samala's old room. Resh was still sleeping. I shook him. He was up in a second, attacking me on the spot. His killing intent almost suffocated me as he grabbed my throat.
Daniel punched his face, making him stagger to the side, releasing me. He blocked me from Resh. "Touch her like that, and I do not care if you are her brother, I will kill you."
Resh stared at us for a moment before calming down. "Sorry," he said. "Habit."
I rubbed my throat. Lessen learned. Do not awake boys with trauma in the middle of the night.
"Somebody sent an assassin." I said. "I'm not sure, but there are no guards or servants any where to be seen. It's like everybody vanished."
"Well, we are the only people who is here. Let's stay together. If someone comes, all three of us can fight." Resh said.
I nodded. We sat on the bed, highly alert. No sound came. Not even the sound of wind could be heared. Still, my gut was telling me something was so, so wrong.
I was missing something here.
Absent guards and servants. If someone was killed, there won't be anybody to call or to witness the death. Whoever survived would be the main suspect.
But we were the only ones here right now. So it would be okay if-
No.
I turned to Daniel, my blood turning cold. He caught my eyes. "Hey, what is it?"
"We are not the only ones here." I said, getting up and running. "My father is also here."
"Shit." Daniel said, following me closely behind as I ran. I knew Resh hesitated, but he also began to run after us. Good. I could not afford to let anyone stay behind right now.
I whispered to myself as I ran. He is okay. It's going to be alright.
My heart stopped when I saw that the door to the king's chambers were wide open.
Nonononono.
I ran inside just in time to see somebody plunging a dagger into my father's stomach.
