Chapter 7
Linda sneaked into the office being very mindful not to get seen by her crazy colleagues who works in a different department in the company. She wore a scarf around her head covering some parts of her face and a black sun glasses trying to not expose her swollen eyes. Mila, one of her colleague was the first to recognize her the moment she came into the office as her desk was the closest to hers.
Mila who was arranging her daily report to go summit to their boss stood up the moment she saw Linda tip toeing into the office. “Linda is that you?”
“Yeah, hi mila.” Linda responded with a forceful smile as she adjusted her glasses trying to make sure mila does not a glimpse of what her eyes looks like at the moment.
She step out of her desk corner as she moved closer to Linda. “Are you okay Linda?”
“Stop!” Linda said with a hand gesture. She paused and chuckled as she continued. “ I am perfectly okay.”
“Why then do you have your face totally covered? I mean, this is actually the first time I am seeing you look this way.” Mila said as she focused her gaze on Linda’s face.
Linda bit her lower lips as she tried coming up with an excuse. “Emmm…” she stammered as she let out a very impish laughter. “The wea….the weather outside is so damn hot and the lights inside the office is so bright.”
Mila got confused for a minute as she turned and looked outside the window as if trying to observe the weather outside. “The weather doesn’t seem hot to me and the office has always been this bright.” She said as she moved her head left and right.
“Really? It just feels kind of off to me maybe because I took a day off yesterday. Everything sure looks new to me, I think I’m going to need sometime to settle in again.” Linda said as she walked to her desk.
“Yes, speaking of yesterday, how did your date go?” Mila said with so much excitement in her voice as she followed Linda behind.
“What?”
“Come on Linda, we heard from Jonas that you weren’t taking your calls all through last night. Please I want to be the first to hear the full gist.” She leaned on Linda’s desk as she placed her hand on her jaw.
“Emmmh…I am so tired and I really need to complete my report as I was absent yesterday so can we talk about this later?” Linda dropped her hand bag as she adjusted her seat to sit.
Smiling. “You really don’t have to work yourself up, the boss is not yet on sit and so we have enough time to talk about this.” She flipped her hair over.
“Oh! Ha.” Linda licked her lips. “I think I need to use the ladies.” She got up and rushed out of the office.
“What is wrong her?” Mila said as she rolled her eyes and shake her head. She got up from Linda’s desk as she walked back to her seat.
Linda headed straight to Jonas office as she peeped through the office door and signaled Jonas to come out. Jonas immediately left what he was doing the moment he recognized Linda as he rushed out, held her by her right hand and dragged her to the staircase.
“Linda are you alright? You got me so damn worried.” Jonas said as he scrutinized her with his eyes.
Took a very deep breathe. “I am not fine trust me, Jonas I feel like dying.” She inhaled audibly.
“What happened? Did that freaking bastard hit you? Tell me everything.” He clenched his fist as though he was about to hit someone.
“Ha! Calm down Jonas.” She said rolling her eyes.
“What did that motherfucker do to you and why are you wearing sun glasses in the office and what’s up with this scarf?” He said trying to take off the scarf from her face as she resisted.
She breathes in again as she tried preventing the tears building up in her eyes from being noticed by her friend. “It is over.” She answered in a low tone.
“I don’t understand, what is over?” He asked a little bit confused.
Linda adjusted the glasses on her eyes. “He broke up with me. Clinton said it is over.” Tears rolled down her chicks as she shook her head and continued speaking. “You know how much energy and efforts I had to put into that relationship. He broke up with me on my birthday.” She snobs.
Jonas starred at her with parted lips for sometime as he hugged her. “It is okay. I knew that dude was up to no good. You really don’t have to cry cause he’s not worth your tears.” He tapped her back.
“I love him so much.”
“I feel like putting a f*****g bullet to his head. How dare he mess with you?” He hugged her tightly as he kept patting her back as she continued crying.

Donald got into the house as he saw his sister seated alone on the dining table staring at the dishes on the table with a sad face. Madam Florence and two other maids rushed out the moment they got the information that Donald was home.
He moved closer to the dining table. “Is this what big girls do now in this part of the country? Stare at the dishes on the table rather than eat them?”
Rachael turned slowly towards his direction. “Is this what big guys do over there? Skip breakfast with family on the first day of their arrival after being away for a very long time?”
Donald chortled as he touched the side of his eyes. “What are you now, a cry baby? Please stop it.”
“Welcome back home young mister.” Florence voice echoed accompanied with a huge smile as Donald turned to her.
“Madam Florence.” He reached out his hands as he hugged her. “You haven’t aged a bit.”
Florence let out a hard laugh. “Of course I have, you don’t need to flatter me. We sure have missed you so much.”
“I have missed you too madam Florence.”
Mr Rogers clears his throat as he came downstairs trying to announce his presence. Donald adjusted his jacket as he turned to him with little or no smile on his face.
“Good morning dad.” Donald greeted him reluctantly.
“The first thing you do the moment you got back to the country is to show your recklessness and disrespect.” Mr Rogers replied as he moved closer to him. Everyone went silent as they all lowered their heads.
“You do not even have the decency to come home first. How reckless can you be?” Mr Rogers continued.
“Come home, is this really a home?” Donald paused for a while as he moved closer to his father and looked directly into his eyes, then he continued. “You have to do better and…” he received a ferocious slap on his cheek from his dad before he could complete his statement.
Everyone in the room was surprised as they looked at each other with open mouth.
