‘No, this can’t be happening to me.’ Linda said in her head as she shut her eyes for a second before opening them back as though she was trying to see if she was actually dreaming. She took a deep breathe and adjusted on her seat as she leaned closer to the table. “Clinton what exactly are you saying?” she paused as she moved her hands closer to reach for Clinton’s hand that was placed on the table. Clinton gently pulled her hand away as he stared straight into her eyes. “Linda, you really don’t have to create a scene here. I’m so sorry that it has to end this way okay.” “Can you at least tell me what your reasons are?” she muttered. “Or no, whatever it is we can work it out I promise.” She could no longer control her tears as she kept shaking her head in disbelief. He stood up as he looked around to ensure there were no familiar faces around staring at them. “I really can’t tell you the reasons but you seriously need to work on yourself, virtually everything is wrong with you and I am so tired.” He lower his head as he whispered into her right ear. “of late you disgust me. I’m sorry.” He stood straight and picked up his phone and wallet on the table as he brought out some cash from his wallet and placed it on the table. “order anything you want and use that to pay for it as I wasn’t able to get you a birthday present.” Linda opened her mouth to speak but no word was forth coming out of her mouth, her face has automatically turned red. She sat still as she watched Clinton walk away. Linda have had so many sorrowful, crazy and painful birthdays since her both parents parted ways but this particular birthday has topped the chart. How would she bring herself to tell her best friend and colleagues at work that what was supposed to be a romantic dinner date has suddenly turned to a nightmare to her. Jonas kept calling Linda’s line but she wasn’t responding or returning his calls. Linda left the restaurant as she walked towards the bus stop with her eyes filled with tears and heart racing so fast as though it was going to explode, she kept having flashback of all the lovely memories she had with Clinton while trying to figure out when he actually did fall out of love with her or if she did something wrong to have triggered the sudden breakup. ‘how come I never noticed how he felt about me now, we never did had any recent fight’. She kept questioning herself in her head. It suddenly began raining as Linda got to the cross road not paying attention to the rain she stood still while everyone crossed over to the other side of the road as soon as the traffic light turned red. For over 45 minute she stood at that same spot crying, it was already so dark and not enough people where seen on the road anymore. This was the fourth time cars where coming to a halt at sign of the traffic light. Donald had just finish meeting up with his childhood friends whom he just had a couple of drinks and catching up with before heading home. He got to the traffic light and stopped while waiting for a signal before moving, he looked out of his car window as his eyes went straight to the lady standing still along the road with no umbrella. “What the heck, why is she standing over there without moving is she a statue or something”. He muttered as he took a closer look at the lady. “Oh! She’s crying, well I think so much has changed in this country.” He said to himself as he heard a car horning so loud behind him, he looked forward to see that the traffic light has turned to green. Donald started his car engine as he drove off making way for the cars behind him to move. He drove passed the young lady standing as he stop as stared at her through his mirror. “What if she was robbed or something?”. He spoke to himself still contemplating whether or not to approach the lady. He drove back as he horned signaling her to come over but she didn’t respond, he got down from his car and went closer to her reaching out for her hands. “What is the matter miss?” he asked in a low tone but got no response. He took a deep breathe as he continued. “Okay whatever it is can be sorted out can you at least get away from the rain before you fall ill?” he tried to pull her towards his car as she resisted. “What do you care? Can you at least mind your own business and leave me the hell alone!”. Linda replied him in a loud voice turning her kept crying. “I understand you are going through a lot of pains right now”. He exhaled softly. “But honestly, this isn’t the right way to face your pain”. “It hurts, it hurts so much”. She snobs, hitting her hand against her chest. “All I have ever asked for to be loved in return, why is it so difficult?”. “So this is about love…” he shakes his head as he held her by her arm. “Do you think by hurting yourself you will get them to love you back? Does your life worth nothing to you at all?” Donald raised his voice at her as moved closer to her. She was shocked to see him react that way. “Wha…what?” she stammered. “You really do not have to beg anyone to love you back.” He said staring at her as she tried avoiding any direct contact with his eyes. “You are getting sucked by the rain and you might catch a cold.” she slowly looked up to take a closer look at the face of the man standing in front of her. “Wait, its you…” she quickly recognized him. Looking closely at her face he also recalled her. “Huh!”. His eyes was filled with surprise as he chuckled. “What a small world, we met again.”
