Clara's pov
"Now, why should I have anything against your friend? I just met him anyways so that sounds preposterous if you ask me," he denied it flatly. just a few moments ago, he was staring daggers at Lucas.
"If I should have any complaints..." he said suddenly, crossing his arms, "...it’s that he strikes me as the kind of guy who gets way too comfortable around his female friends and doesn’t know his limits. Way too touchy, in my opinion. As a man, he should learn to respect boundaries and stick to them."
I raised an eyebrow, "Isn't that a little ironic coming from you, Alpha Killian?"
He didn’t respond, even when his order arrived, a black coffee and a muffin.
"Aren't you going to order something as well? I'll feel uncomfortable seeing you, just sitting there watching me eat..."
That was surprisingly nice—unexpected, especially coming from him. Still, I politely refused his offer with a small shake of my head..
"Don't worry, I plan to share some coffee with Lucas after you leave–" I was interrupted when he broke into a long fit of coughing.
"What do you mean to share coffee with him? Like a date or something?"
"No,"I replied firmly, already getting used to this, "Lucas is my friend and nothing else... I mean, I'm here with you right now while you're drinking your coffee, but that doesn't mean we're on a date, does it?"
"I think it should be open to interpretation," he mumbled before biting into his muffin. I had no idea what he even meant by that, open to interpretation? Maybe he was just messing with me.
I crossed my legs, waiting for him to finish his coffee so I could go over and talk to Lucas, maybe even catch up. Back when I worked at this coffee shop, he often covered my shifts. A total lifesaver, it didn’t matter if I was under the weather or dealing with an emergency at home, he always stepped in without hesitation or expecting anything in return.
I’m sure he must have been worried after I disappeared. Maybe I would have gone to him for help, if I hadn’t crossed paths with Alpha Killian.
Back to the Alpha himself, he was still nursing his cup of coffee. Fifteen minutes had passed, and he wasn’t distracted by anything else, just sipping every drop like he was in some strange race. I was almost tempted to reach across the table, snatch the cup from him, and gulp down the rest of that bitter liquid myself, just so he could finally be done and on his way out.
"Alpha Killian, aren’t you scheduled to meet with your beta later this afternoon?"
He checked his watch and nodded in agreement before he went back to the cup of coffee. He drank it like that was going to be the last one he was going to have in his entire life. When we were on our way here, he never metioned wanting a coffee, now here he was behaving like he was under some sort of spell , a withdrawal.
From what I was told, he mostly drank tea. In fact, i had never served him coffee once since I had been working for him. So, I don't know why he suddenly needed to drink this much coffee out of the blue like this.
Well, he is Alpha Killian, he wasn't going to explain himself to me a lowly omega, his maid. That was just one of the things that I found so intensely frustrating about him, he could keep information from me but if he wanted to know something about me i would tell him because he was an alpha.
Lucas finally approached our table with a cupcake, which he dropped in front of me with a smile. It was this sort of friendly hospitality that he had which i was so familiar with. I had not forgotten at all, he was kind. This made it easy dor him to make friends, in fact he was really popular amongst other employees too.
"Lucas , I wasn't going to ordering yet" I said as my face flushed. It was even my favorite flavor too, he had remembered and I would be lying if I said I wasn't touched by that.
Someone else clearly had their own feelings about the cupcake I had been offered, and they could hardly wait until Lucas was out of earshot before speaking up.
"See what I mean? No boundaries whatsoever... He's just throwing his himself at you and it's pathetic to watch,"
I took a huge bite of the cupcake making sure that I maintained eye contact with killian as I was did so.
"there is nothing pathetic about being nice maybe you should try it sometime. And he's not doing this to get in my pants some men actually know how to control themselves,"
I don’t know what gave me the courage to speak to the Alpha like that. Maybe it was because we had shared an intimacy most people would never experience, but I felt bold enough to voice my opinion. He only grumbled before finally finishing his coffee, rising to leave without a word.
Such a confusing man, one minute ice cold, the next burning with emotions he could not keep inside.
My eyes followed him until he left the Cafe. A few minutes later , on his break Lucas was able to join me on the table. The customers were not much today so he was able to fully relax ,we began to catch up.
At first we were avoiding the elephant in the room but after we both danced around the topic for a while we eventually reached it like a dead end that couldn't be crossed.
"I heard about you and Josh but I wanted to know your side of the story because I can't believe you did what he said,"
