Chapter 4

AMBER

Realizing the great indignation mirrors Viktor's eyes, I fear for my life.

Viktor instructed his people to take the dead baby in my arms.

“No, please! My baby!” I pleaded.

“Wash my son and change his clothes for his funeral. Some dirty hands have already soiled her.” Viktor impatiently orders his sanitation team. “And you!” He turns to me. “You don’t have the right to hold my heir. You’re a murderer. What you did is unforgivable!”

“No, Alpha Viktor, please! Believe me! I didn’t—”

“Lydia!” He cuts me off by calling my maid.

Lydia quickly enters the room.

“Alpha.” She bowed politely.

“Tell me what you saw in this room while Amber was alone with the heir.”

“Yes, Alpha.” To my surprise, Lydia pointed her finger at me. “I saw Omega Amber choking the heir to death. I even heard her saying: This is the payment for what the Alpha did to me. If he thinks he has already won by breaking our marriage, then he was wrong. I may lose my title, but he will lose an heir to his throne.”

“No! You liar!” I screamed in great fury. “I didn’t do anything that you said. I will never do that, despite the fact that it hurts me to break up my marriage with the Alpha. I am not that kind of person!” I turned to Viktor, begging him to believe me. “You know me, Alpha. You know very well that I am not capable of anything that they are accusing me of!”

“Yeah, I thought I knew you, Amber. But it turns out I was wrong. For the first time, I was wrong in calculating a person.”

The Alpha’s guard quickly enters the room. They pointed their swords at me, urging me to kneel down. Trembling in fear, I didn’t have a choice but to go down on my knees, or the sharpness of their sword would slice my neck.

‘But what is the difference anyway? They are going to punish me for a sin I didn’t commit.’

“If you think you have already got your revenge, then I will too. You did this horrible thing, and it’s time you faced your punishment.”

Rich tears rolled down my cheeks.

‘It is over now.’

“Amber, I sentence you to death for killing my heir and the supposed next Alpha of Night shade pack. You don’t have the right to live after committing a horrendous crime!” Viktor announced to everyone.

One of the guards is ready to do the deed, but Sienna stops him.

“Alpha, please let me do the honor.”

If Alpha Viktor is surprised to hear that, it doesn’t take long because Sienna quickly explains.

“I loathed her for trying to make me her scapegoat and for disowning me. I am disowning her too, in the cruelest way possible.”

Viktor nods and hands her the sword. “Do the honor then,” he says without emotion.

The words slice me to pieces. I can’t bear the pain of betrayal. My husband and my sister betrayed me. It hurts me to the core.

‘In my next life, I don’t want to be your mate again, Viktor.’

What’s worse is that I lost my child. There’s no one left. This life is too painful. I don’t want to stay in this world anymore…

‘Oh, Moon Goddess, if I live again, please don’t make someone like Viktor my mate in my next life. I beg you…’

I closed my eyes, waiting for my end. Tears continuously slipped down my face.

Sienna stabs me in the stomach without hesitation. As the searing pain started to consume me, her lips came closer to my ear.

“Serves you right, btch. I am taking everything that is supposed to be mine. Have a nice trip to the afterlife, fake sister.”

Her cruel words are more painful than the wound her sword is giving me.

‘I can’t believe she can do this to me, after what I did for her.’

I start vomiting blood when Sienna repeats the stab a few more times. I can tell how determined she is to eliminate me on her path to a greater life.

‘Envy doesn’t really have limitations…’

“Clean all this mess up and take my heir to the waking room.”

Those are the last words I hear before going down into darkness.

‘Moon Goddess, help me… help me heal from this unbearable pain…’

I feel like drowning… I thought I was dead, but why do I feel like drowning? I am lost into endless darkness.

‘Where am I?’

Confusion and fear immediately enveloped me.

‘There’s no more pain, Amber…’

I hear a soft and solemn, yet powerful voice. It seems to caress my innermost, yet it encourages strength and power in me.

And she is right. I don’t feel the pain of my death anymore.

‘Who are you?’ I asked, turning to the nothingness.

Looking around me, I can’t see anything but darkness surrounding me.

‘Amber…’ the voice near my ears.

It seems warm, touching my soul, yet it feels cold around me.

“Where are you? Why can’t I see you?” I started to feel afraid of the voice I didn’t even know.

‘I am the mother of all of your kind, Amber… the navigator of your sail in life, either hard or smooth,’ the voice answers.

Oh my goodness!

‘The Moon Goddess!’

I am talking to the Moon Goddess! I am probably dead, knowing the fact that I can hear her.

‘Yes, Amber, my dear child. It’s me…’

I don’t know what to say. Is this what death was like? Am I going to stay here for eternity?

‘No, my sweet child. You’re not meant to be here for eternity.’ She answers my thoughts. ‘And it is not your time yet.’

I panicked upon hearing her. “Then, are you going to bring me back to life?” I shook my head uncontrollably. “No… Please! My previous life with Viktor and Sienna had been so painful. I lost everything that was so precious to me. There’s nothing left in me, so, why do I need to go back to my previous life?”

‘Do you think I didn't know that?’ She answers my hesitation. I stay silent. ‘And what you said is not entirely true, my child. I have different plans for you from the time you are born. And it has not yet been fulfilled. So, you need to come back.’

I don’t understand her. She seems to speak about things unclearly.

“But I don’t want to continue living if I just have to continue where I left off.”

‘I already said, I have different plans for you, my sweet child. You are hearing me because I heard your pleas. I will grant your wish, Amber.’

I gasped in anticipation, waiting for the Moon Goddess’ proclamation.

‘I am giving you a second chance at life. This will change your entire previous life, Amber.’

Somehow, hope rises in me. She is the Moon Goddess—the planner, the scheduler, the most powerful above all. I believe her plans are greater than I can think of.

And doesn’t she tell me she will grant my plea?

“Does this mean I will have a new life?” I asked for confirmation.

‘Yes, you will be reborn together with your son, and you will have a second chance mate—an Alpha to the Moon Valley pack.’

I automatically touch my belly. I know there is nothing in there. I lost my son already.

‘I am not going to be Viktor’s mate again, but I will bear his child, my child… We can start a new life and find my second chance mate. It is indeed a new life.’

I may not be reincarnated, but having a second chance at life is something I am grateful for. As long as I am not Viktor’s mate anymore, it is good enough.

‘But I have one condition, Amber. You need to fulfill it for you to gain the peak of happiness that I pave for you.’
