AMBER
My jaw drops. I am in between anticipation and curiosity.
“There is a condition?” I asked.
‘Yes, there is. Everything must have a condition to balance things in life and nature’s course.’
Of course, she is right. She is the Moon Goddess. She knows what she is doing.
“What is it, Moon Goddess? What is the condition?” I eagerly asked.
‘You have a task to do, Amber. You need to let go of your past so you can fall in love with your second chance mate…’
I am rendered speechless. At first, the task sounded too easy. But as I look deep into it, I slowly understand it is not that easy to let go. I loved Viktor with all my heart. It just stopped when they betrayed me.
Yet, he is still the father of my child.
‘It’s the only way you can seek your revenge, Amber. Let go of the past…’
‘Let go of the past…’
‘Let go of the past…’
I heard her last words continuously as I started to feel swept away. I gasp for air and the next moment, I find myself standing in the middle of a dark forest.
‘Or must it be night?’
I looked around me. I am back in the world. I am reborn… with a dark past stitch in me.
I suddenly felt a slow beat in my belly.
‘My son…’ I gently touched my tummy.
Indeed, the Moon Goddess is true to her word. I am reborn together with my son in my belly. I gather myself together and pull my determination.
I am back, and I must be in the Moon Valley pack just like what the Moon Goddess told me.
And this time, I will do everything and face anything that comes my way, until I get the life she plans for me.
‘And you, Viktor and Sienna. From this time, I don’t know you both anymore.’
I started to move, walking my way out of the forest. But I barely know this place. I continuously walk and trace the path that I feel is right.
Suddenly, after a few hours of walking, heavy rain poured.
‘Gosh! It’s so cold!’
My stomach rumbles. And I am starting to lose my energy upon walking an endless path without any food in my stomach. I looked around me, seeking shelter.
‘What are you thinking, Amber? There is no way you can find a house in the middle of the forest.’
I continue walking in the heavy rain, alternately walking and running. Until I saw a lonely building standing in the middle of the dark and cold forest.
‘Thank the Moon Goddess! She paved my way to get shelter against this heavy rain.’
I immediately ran towards the tall building, not afraid of what must be inside. All I have in mind is to find shelter until the rain subsides.
‘The door is open?’
As I enter the house, I see the fireplace is already lit.
‘Oh no! There must be someone occupying this place. What if he caught me sneaking inside? I must leave now!’
I quickly changed my mind and turned away to leave. But a powerful smell suddenly intruded into my nostrils.
It smells sweet and comforting and seductive… it’s a strong scent of sandalwood…
‘Mate!’ I heard Ava, my wolf, moan in my head.
DYLAN
‘Not a good time to hunt…’ I murmured to myself as I wag the raindrops in my hair.
I occasionally go to the forest to hunt for different types of birds, and bring them alive in the pack house. That’s my hobby after a tiring day in the city.
‘…and the only retreat from the big obligation on my shoulder,’
Being a successful businessman and a powerful Alpha to Moon Valley pack, those are both draining. I need a break. But since it is raining cats and dogs, I don’t think it is the best time for my hobby.
‘I am done for the day. Time to rest,’
I went back to my house in the middle of the forest. But as I came nearer, I noticed a strong sweet smell.
It was so sensual that my wolf, Sloane, couldn’t help growling inside me.
‘It’s the smell of our mate!’ Sloane keeps on roaring inside me. He is trying to come to my forefront.
‘What are you talking about? Alisa was long gone…’
I tried to put some sense into him, but I, myself, wasn’t convinced in my own words. I know for a fact that it is the same scent as Alisa, my late wife.
‘Alisa…’ I murmured to myself.
I walk at a fast pace. So excited to find where that smell is coming from.
I’m actually battling against myself about what I should think of this strange feeling. That smell is igniting something really powerful inside me.
‘Believe me, Dylan! It’s our mate! I am certain of that! She’s in the house!’ Sloane keeps on insisting on me.
Half of me wants to believe that, but the other half is resisting.
“It can’t be possible. She died in my arms. She’s long gone…” I told Sloane.
‘Or maybe not. What if she is reincarnated?’ Sloane tries to push his ridiculous thoughts about this strange smell.
“Reincarnated? That fast? It has been almost two years. If Alisa was reincarnated, she must be a baby right now. It’s really impossible, Sloane.”
Sloane roars at me, but he doesn’t say anything anymore. I can tell he is trying to figure things out as I do.
And while I am near my house, the scent becomes stronger by the seconds.
‘She is definitely inside my house!’
As I step inside, my heart starts to throb really fast. I can hear my own heartbeats.
And there, standing in the front of my fireplace, is a petite and soft looking figure of a woman.
‘That’s exactly how I like my woman, my Alisa…’
And her hair... it’s jet black long hair crowning her glory.
‘Just like Alisa’s?’ Sloane mocks me in my head. ‘I already told you. She is our mate. Her scent is exactly the same as our mate's.’
I slowly and quietly walked towards the innocent-looking woman. Just by looking at her silhouette, facing her back on me, a strange powerful feeling started to ignite inside of me. And it is growing stronger as the woman starts to turn facing me.
“Alisa…”
