Chapter 99 Days passed. David was getting stronger. Off oxygen. Feeding well. The doctors said he'd be ready to go home soon. But she wasn't waking up. Adrian sat beside her bed in ICU. Holding her hand. Talking to her. Begging her to come back. "The baby is okay," he said for the hundredth time. "David is getting stronger every day. He's beautiful. Perfect. He has your nose. My eyes. He needs to meet you. Needs his mama." No response. Just the steady beep of monitors. The rise and fall of her chest. Mechanical. Automatic. Alive but not present. "Sophie asks about you every day. She made you a drawing. Want to see?" Adrian held up the paper. Crayon flowers and stick figures. "She drew our whole family. You, me, her, David. She says we're not complete without you." Still nothing.
