Kings fiancee

His eyes seemed to be unfocused for a moment and with the little knowledge I have about werewolves, I could guess he had just received a mind link and from the look on his face, it was something urgent. The quiet reigned for a while longer before he left abruptly without saying another word to me. His mood seemed to have changed into a bad one, seeing how his brows were drawn tightly together when he left. What could’ve happened? Well, phew. I breathed to ease myself of the tension I felt while he was here. I finished the rest of my food too and Gwen was there to take me back to my room. The size of my room was so big that it could house a family, not that I was complaining. I was still a bit confused about what to do next. So when I was finally alone and by myself, I let everything that happened replay in mind. One moment, I was making plans to escape from prison and then the next moment, the King barges in and claimed me as his mate. He took me out of prison so easily and now I’m in his mansion, confused, clueless, still wondering if it was real. I have heard about werewolves being mated to humans but I have never heard of this case with witches. It should be forbidden considering how much these two races hated each other so I knew, I knew that it was only a matter of time before my little freedom is taken away from me. I needed to plan now. How to outsmart them. I don’t even care if I lose my life. As long as the evil doers received the punishment they deserved, as long as I destroy them just like the way they destroyed me, then I don’t really mind losing it all. I couldn’t remember how I fell asleep. A sudden commotion outside woke me up and I got down from the huge bed just in time before the door burst open and an angry red head barged in. I could see Gwen trying to stop her but she was like a mad woman who would not listen. “Let me go Gwen. I’m going to f*****g kill the witch before she bewitches him completely!” Bewitch? I wish I had that ability, then things would go smoother for me. The girl finally stopped in front of me. She took me in just as much as I was taking her in. She had really long hair, reaching her waist and a delicate face that was currently holding a fierce expression. Honestly she looked like a spoiled brat and I couldn’t tell why she was staring at me with so much hate. “I don’t care whatever your name is.” She started. “You’re going to leave this place and you’re leaving right now.” I allowed a few seconds of silence reign but she was even impatient. “Are you deaf? Can’t you hear what I’m saying or do you need me to repeat myself?!” “I heard you perfectly well miss.” I said. “ I was waiting for you to tell me why I have to leave.” Slap! I felt the sting that followed on my left cheek. A gasp escaped my lips and I stared at her with widened eyes. “Claire, you cannot do this!” Gwen quickly stood between us but the lady wasn’t done. She pushed Gwen away and grabbed my hair. “A lowly prisoner like you have the guts to talk back at me?.” She yelled. “Do you think you can do as you like because someone finally claimed you as his mate? What would you do when everyone finds out that you casted a spell on him?” Heh, now more than ever I wish I could cast a spell. Then she wouldn’t still be here. I could’ve sent her to a hellish place to burn with just a snap of my fingers. I flexed my fingers and the next moment, I was grabbing her hair back, making sure to pull on it with all my might until she screamed out in pain and we both let go of each other. “You f*****g b***h! How dare you?” “No, how dare you. The King brought me here so if you have a problem with it, go bother him.” She looked stunned for a few seconds, then broke into a laugh as if something had surprised her. “Wow. I can’t believe this is happening right now. You—“ she breathed harshly, her emotions all over the place. “I’m going to make sure you pay for laying your hands on me.” She scoffed and left angrily. Gwen took in a deep worried sigh as she closed the door behind her and rushed towards me. “Are you okay, Maeve?” “I’m fine.” I said, rubbing my temples. “Who is she?” Gwen sighed again. “The King’s fiancée.” A pause. I legit paused for a good minute. Surprise entered my eyes and followed by that was instant regret. I should’ve known when she acted like that. “Is he going to marry her?” Well dumb question. Of course he will. “Since he has found you, nothing is certain yet.” Although Gwen said this, I know she was only trying not to make me feel more afraid. If that woman was already recognized as the King’s fiancée, then chances are, he is definitely going to get married to her. And after today's encounter, I can only imagine what my life would be like here with that woman as Queen and I as the concubine. A mate is not as important as werewolves make it seem, especially for politicians like the King. That woman seemed to be from a respected family judging by how even Gwen was afraid of touching her. There’s no way he’d leave her and choose me. I would be stupid to even think that. Oh no. I shouldn’t have fought back just now. I ran my fingers through my hair in regret. …….. King’s Pov “This time around, the werebears will be going down. If we can utilize the full power of the green warriors and the—“ A pause. “Are you even listening to me?” I blinked twice, turning off the mindlink as I focused once again on my very good friend, Tyson. “What’s going on?” He asked. “Nothing much.” I said, trailing my fingers along the lines of the werebears city map sitting in front of me. “My fiancée seems to be bothering my mate.” “Shouldn’t you be out there then? Sonia will tear her apart” “You think so?” My lips curled up in amusement. Isn’t it the other way round? It seemed like no one knew my mate the way I do. She looked innocent, harmless even but that was only because she was hiding her claws pretty well. I cannot mistake the fire I saw in her eyes when I claimed her, the fire she was so desperate to hide. The hate she concealed so well. It didn’t surprise me, instead I only felt excited. It was normal for a witch to hate our kind and considering we had her locked up; no wonder she would contain that much hate. I had just been at the dungeon to take care of a few matters when I smelled her, I requested for all the female prisoners to be brought before me, who knew I’d really find my mate amongst them. And she turned out to be a witch. An interesting one with a tragic backstory. “I think we should continue with what we were discussing.” Tyson shook his head at me like I was unbelievable before he continued suggesting strategies to me. It was late when we finished. Gwen was already waiting in front of my room. I smiled when I saw her and she smiled back with eyes filled with love. Although she was a servant here, to me she was like a mother figure. One I never had. “What are you doing here?” “I was worried.” “About me?” I c****d a brow and she shook her head. “Aren’t you going to see her?” I knew she was referring to Maeve at that moment. “She has been crying all day.” My brows furrowed deeply when I heard that. “Didn’t you say she handled it well?” “She did.” Gwen seemed even more worried “But the moment she found out Sonia was your fiancée she hasn’t stopped crying.” Oh for goodness sake. I didn’t wait to hear Gwen, I walked briskly to the other hall and paused in front of her door. There was no sound coming from there but I could tell she was in there. Her intoxicating scent wafted through my nostrils as I pushed the door open just in time to see her bury her head in the pillows, her shoulders shook as broken sobs began to escape her lips. A knowing smile tugged on my lips and I tried my best to hide it as I approached her slowly, that was until I noticed the thing on the wall. I stopped in my tracks, staring at the malicious thing, a shadow which was hanging right above her. It was baring it’s fangs and was ready to jump at her. “Maeve? Get down.” I hoped the urgency in my voice would make her realize how serious this was. And that she would act as quick as I wanted her to. It was too late to get to her, and the moment that thing grabs her, she would be gone.
