Chapter 2: The Second Alpha Who Should Not Exist POV: Nyra Vale (Female Lead) Opening Hook I thought one rejection would be the worst pain of my life. Then another Alpha looked at me and said, “Mine.” And everything inside me stopped. I stare at him. I do not move. My body feels locked in place. My wrist still hurts where the guard held me, but I don’t care about that anymore. Because of him. The stranger. The second Alpha. He is watching me like he already knows my name. Like I already belong to him. My voice comes out carefully. “Who are you?” He did not answer immediately. That silence makes my heart beat faster. Finally, he speaks. “Kael Draven.” The name feels heavy. Dangerous. I repeat it slowly. “Kael…” His eyes stay on mine. “Yes.” One word. Simple. But it pulls something inside me. I shake my head slightly. “This is not your place,” I say. He takes one step closer. Only one. But it feels like the world shifts. “It is now,” he replies. My breath tightens. The guards behind me do not move. They are still afraid. That tells me everything. He is not ordinary. I try to steady my voice. “You do not know me.” Kael’s gaze drops slightly to my wrist. Then back to my face. “I know enough.” My chest tightens. “That is impossible,” I say quickly. He tilts his head. “Is it?” Something in his tone makes me pause. I don’t understand him. That scares me more than anger. I take a step back. “I am not yours,” I say firmly. A pause. Then he answers. “I did not say you were.” That confuses me. I blink. “Then why are you here?” His voice lowers. “Because you are not safe with them.” I laughed once. It sounds bitter. “I am not safe anywhere.” Kael watches me closely. Then he says something that freezes me completely. “You are a rare bond carrier.” Silence. My heart stops for a second. I have never heard that term before. “What does that mean?” I ask. He does not answer right away. That delay feels intentional. Then he finally says it. “It means your mate's bond is not single.” My breath breaks. I shake my head. “No. That is not possible.” Kael steps closer again. This time I will not move back. I don’t know why. “It is possible,” he says. His voice is calm. Too calm. “And dangerous.” My hands tremble slightly. I hide it. “Stop talking like you know me,” I say. He looks at me like that is exactly what he is doing. “I do know you,” he replies. My chest tightens again. “No. You don’t.” Kael’s eyes darken slightly. “You were rejected by Lucian Vex.” My name for him feels sharp now. Lucian. My first mate. The one who broke me. I swallow hard. “How do you know that?” Kael’s answer is simple. “Because he is weak enough to lie about it.” That word hits me. Weak. I frown. “You don’t know him.” Kael’s voice sharpens slightly. “I know enough.” Something inside me twists. I don’t know what to believe anymore. I whisper, “Why are you saying these things to me?” Kael takes another step closer. Now he is too near. Not touching me. But close enough that I feel him. “Because,” he says quietly, “you are being hunted.” My stomach drops. That is the second twist. Hunted. I shake my head. “By who?” Kael’s eyes stay locked on mine. “By your own pack.” My throat tightens. “That is not true.” He leans in slightly. “You think rejection was the end?” His voice lowers. “It was the beginning.” Something cold moves through me. I don’t like this feeling. I don’t like him knowing things I don’t. But I also cannot walk away. That scares me most of all. Midpoint Twist A slow clap interrupts the air. I turn sharply. My heart sinks. Selene. She is here again. Smiling. Like she owns everything. “Oh,” she says softly. “So this is your second surprise.” I stiffen. Kael does not react. That makes her smile fade slightly. Selene walks closer. Her eyes scan him. Then me. “You really do attract trouble,” she says to me. My voice is tight. “Leave.” She laughs. “No, sister. I think I will stay.” Kael finally speaks. “Step back.” His voice is low. But it cuts through everything. Selene pauses. For the first time, she looks uncertain. Then she forces a smile. “And who are you to command me?” Kael answers instantly. “Someone who will break your neck if you take one more step.” Silence. My heart jumps. Selene’s smile disappears completely. My stepmother appears behind her. Calm. Cold. Watching. “I see you have found another distraction,” she says to me. I clench my fists. “This is not a distraction,” I say. Kael glances at me briefly. Then back at them. “No,” he says quietly. “She is not.” Something about that makes my chest tighten. My stepmother studies Kael carefully. Then she says something unexpected. “Kael Draven.” I freeze. She knows him. Kael does not react. “You should not be here,” she continues. Kael replies calmly. “I go where I want.” A tense silence follows. Then my stepmother smiles slightly. “You are interfering in pack matters.” Kael’s voice drops. “Your pack is the problem.” That statement changes everything. Even Selene looks shocked. I feel something building. Something dangerous. Second Twist My stepmother steps forward. “I see,” she says slowly. “So the rumors are true.” Kael does not ask. He already knows. She continues. “The rare bond carrier.” My breath catches. So she knows too. She turns to me. “You were never supposed to survive this long.” My heart drops. “What?” I whisper. Selene smiles again. “Yes,” she adds. “You were meant to disappear quietly.” My body goes cold. I look at Kael. He does not look surprised. He already knew this too. Anger rises inside me. “Why?” I ask sharply. My stepmother sighs. “Because your existence creates an imbalance.” Kael interrupts her. “No,” he says. “Because she is a power you cannot control.” Silence. That truth lands deep. Selene’s smile turns sharp. “You think you can protect her?” Kael answers instantly. “I already am.” Something shifts inside me. I don’t understand it. But I feel it. Cliffhanger Build-Up My stepmother lifts her hand slightly. A signal. More guards appear behind her. Too many. My heart races. Kael notices. He does not move. But the air around him changes. Danger becomes heavier. Selene whispers to me. “You should have stayed rejected.” I look at her. And for the first time, I feel no fear. Only something colder. Kael steps slightly in front of me. Blocking me. Protecting me. Or claiming me. I don’t know which one. My stepmother speaks. “Take her.” The guards move. Fast. Kael’s voice drops. “One more step…” They hesitate. Then— He finishes the sentence. “…and none of you will leave alive.” Silence. Even the air feels frozen. And in that moment… I realized something terrifying. Kael did not come here to rescue me. He came here because I belong to something far bigger than my pack. And the ground beneath us begins to crack with power I do not understand. Cliffhanger Kael finally turns his head slightly toward me. His voice is quiet. But it destroys everything I thought I knew. “Nyra Vale…” “This is where your real life begins.”
