Who am I?

《Flashback》

^Rins point of view^

A sudden thunder rose Rin out of his bed. He looked around the place that reminded him of the abandoned hospital room. Strangely he couldn't remember how he got here, the more he was thinking about it the more questions he got and soon he noticed that he doesn't even know what his name is.

He got up from the bed with his body feeling a bit weak. 'How long have I've stayed here?' he thought.

"Is there anyone here? I woke up!" He shouted, but there was no answer, only complete silence.

Rin noticed that some clothes were laying on the couch that stood on the other side of the room. From inspection, he assumed that it was his clothes, but after putting them on he noticed that they are a bit loose, from that he assumed that the time spent in the hospital was quite long.

While looking around he noticed something that looked like a medical record, he took them and inspected them. Sadly the condition of documents was terrible, but there was one good thing, there was at least some information about himself that he could read. He was 22 years old, and his name at least for him was Rin. He clearly understood that there were missing letters in the back but Rin was better than nothing.

There was still no one coming to check on him and that puzzled him. So Rin decided to get out of his room and check where all the people are, but there was no one. Corridors were empty, trashed and damaged, and most importantly blood, there was a lot of blood spilled in this hospital.

After his little sightseeing Rin decided to get outside of this hospital, but what he found outside was not much different from what he saw inside. There were trashed cars, bodies of what looked like civil humans and soldiers, but what Rin found strange, was the number of bullet holes in bodies and most of them had a hole in their heads or entire heads missing.

'What happened here?' Was the only question that Rin asked himself in his mind. But still looking for answers he continued to move forward. After some time of walking through empty streets, Rin noticed a newspaper stand that still was in semi-good shape and it even had some newspapers in it. He took one and read it. What was written shocked him completely. There was an epidemic happening that turned humans into mindless monsters and the world as people knew it was falling apart. But after trying to be sentimental for a bit Rin noticed that his lack of memory gave him no pain about a family that he might have.

He was alive and he wanted to stay alive, and his instincts told him that he needs to leave the town and move somewhere where he could find some shelter.

He took around an hour to reach the outskirts of the town he was in, and along his way, he didn't see a single living human, and it felt really strange for him, but then he saw a figure moving on the road. Rin slowly started approaching something that resembled human and greeted him

"Hello, I am looking for some shelter outside this town, do you want to join me?"

But there was no answer, instead, the figure stiffened and released a loud growl and went after Rin and soon he was already tackling him on the ground.

Only then while trying to push the thing that looked like human Rin noticed how horrible it looked, creatures skin was bloody with blackish veins visible everywhere, his eyes seemed to be completely lost as they were almost white, and his teeth were almost black, but the worst was a smell, Rins mind recognized the smell like rotten flesh and it was something that Rin did not want to be part of. So with all his strength he pushed the creature off himself and started to run, sadly it seemed that creature was faster than him, and Rin had to do something about it. Suddenly he remembered the bodies outside the hospital, the injuries in their heads were something he was thinking about after he read the newspaper, but he had nothing to use as a weapon until he noticed something that looked like a broken flag pole.

Rin quickly grabbed it and turned around to face the creature only to he that it was right on top of him. Luckily adrenaline kicked in and Rin stabbed the thing right in the eye making it collapse at the same moment. Adrenaline was something that seemed to excite Rin, and he quickly ran from the place where the figt happened.

Finally, after what looked like an hour, he reached a barn building, that still had doors in it. Rin was feeling tired and he needed to get some sleep, so this place was a perfect find for him. He carefully entered and looked around, it seemed that someone lived here before, but it was long ago. There was something that resembled a handmade bed and some shelves with cans of what looked like meat in them.

Upon checking the expiration date he felt a bit puzzled, Rin didn't know what year it was or was it even Monday or Friday. At first, Rin was hesitant to eat it, but hunger took over and he took a bite of canned meat. It didn't taste bad so Rin took another bite and soon entire can was empty, he even drank the marinate that was remaining. After two more cans, Rin finally felt satisfied, and he played down in the makeshift bed that he noticed before.

'Well it's better than staying in town, maybe tomorrow I will find someone alive' he thought.

What he wasn't expecting was that finding someone alive will change him forever.
