Part 1
-And their eyes with untold stories meet. -
Blue Lake Wood
Faye freezes with wide eyes as she saw the man approaching her. Up close, his presence is so intimidating, with his tallness and him wearing a white robe, usually used by the guards.
He is one cubit (18 inches) taller than most Pantheocelesian men she saw since she enters the City, and their average height is more than four cubits (72 inches or 6 feet or more). She looks at his eyes, and she feels that a glacier is in front of here, and the air that passed becomes ice cold. It brought a chill in her bones and made her wrapped her arms around her, hands trembling she started to rub the side of her neck.
"Do you know this place you entered?" He asked.
"Yes, a forest."
"This is not just a normal forest, but a private garden of the Crown Prince," he pointed out, "his visitors and his guards are the only people allowed.
"I am sorry. Truly, I didn't mean to come here without permission. I only touch a wall, and suddenly I am in this place together with my pet. I thought it is a forest outside the Palace," she is shaking with fear as she tried to explain.
She knew, to displease the family of the Supreme nobility will double the punishment. Her brother reminded her of several times before she came here. Her being a maidservant will be a disadvantage to her, as she will be the lowest in rank, and no one will be able to help her.
"Can you please don't punish me or tell His Highness? I promise this will not happen again," she looks up at him.
Her begging green eyes the color of lake water in springtime entices Prince Atticus to delve into it. Adding to it is her ebony black hair and exquisite face, it's no wonder he was mesmerized. Her body language that sends a message of the state of her emotion, combined with her willowy frame that looks frail as if it will collapse with the blow of the wind, made him think twice to interrogate her further.
"Which Kingdom did you come from?" he asked.
"I came from Camdenland."
"I have heard that your King and Queen are lax with their people. If you are used to doing whatever you want there, it is different here. You should learn that every mistake you make has its punishment."
"Yeee...s, I will."
"Are you one of the maidservants?" he asked.
"Yes, how do you know?"
"The way you dress."
She looked down on herself and saw the stain of cherries on her brown cotton dress, the evidence of her eating it. She keeps her eyes lowered and said, "I got hungry, and the cherries are there, so I help myself with it. What is the punishment on it?"
"As you eat it, I think you should come and clean it with its fruits as a penalty," he said, and the corner of his mouth curves up.
She finally noticed the guy in front of her smile; those eyes she thought were cold changes into a sapphire like the color in the stone in her bracelet, so full of warmth and wisdom. It made him the most attractive man she had seen in her entire life. Shaking her head as her mind wander in topics she should not, but to the most important thing, on how to get out of this place.
"Thank you. As you said, no person is allowed here unless invited by the Crown Prince. Surely you will also be reprimanded if he knows that you invited me," she told him, "by the way, have you seen a pink fox around here?
"Is he that one?" he said and pointing below the couch she had been lying on, with Chubb sleeping still.
"Yes, that's my pet Chubb," and walk to where he is.
She awakens him with a soft tap so they can leave else this guard will change his mind and report her.
"You asked me for retribution of your mistake, and you don't want what I said, so I will think about it and tell you later on," she heard him say on her back.
She stood up and turned to face him and said, "I don't want to make trouble for you and myself. Just look for me once you think about it. I am Faye, and I just came here a month ago, so I don't know yet which Palace I will be working."
Then her stomach growled and wondered how long she had slept. It's time for her to have a proper exit before the guard can hear it.
"I have to go back now, but I don't know the way out of here, can you please tell me?" she asked him.
"Lunchtime had passed for a while now, why don't you eat with me as I have not eaten yet then after that I will let you know the way out?"
His invitation is so tempting. Faye doesn't talk alone to a stranger. How much more to eat and with a man? Then she remembers that if she goes back, there will be no food waiting as it is a rule to always eat during mealtime or starve until the next meal. Hunger wins over; besides, he seems a kind man.
She got out of the forest with the help of the guard. He just touched something, minus Chubb. But she is not so worried about her pet as she knew he always went there and nothing happened.
She lay on her bed, remembered what had happened a month before she comes here.
Camdenland, a month ago
Faye smiles as she brushes her hair to shine like a span of gold while thinking of the fun things she will do again with her younger brothers when she awakens the next day. It never enters into her innocent mind that tonight will be the last time her life will be of a carefree deity Princess of the Camdenland.
She thought her life would be forever bound in this Kingdom. Running around the forest on sunny days, rescuing the animals in need, enhancing the growth of flowers and fruits, and most specially frolicking in the waterfall as it growls and rolls on its journey to the stream. The fragrance of flowers in the different phases of its growth and the fusty scent of the leaves after rainfall is the familiar aroma that she will only smell in her lifetime.
After finishing brushing her hair to its lustrous form, Faye decided to go to her bed to sleep. Then she heard familiar footsteps nearing her room. As the sound getting closer to the entrance, she smells the scent of jasmine, her mother's favorite flower. Her mother's perfume brings serenity into the night that fits her personality, with eyes as blue as the deep ocean in its calmness and purity. Cupid bow lips, which almost looked like heart shape and golden hair, all added to the attractiveness of an exquisite and elegant woman.
When her mother comes into sight, she runs to hug her. She misses the time when she comes to her room almost every night. But when she turned fifteen years old, it had become a rare occurrence.
"Mother, it's been ages since you visited my room," her beautiful bowed lips, a replica of her mother, pouted in a gesture of displeasure, "now, I am so happy that you are here!" she babbled, and then hugged and kissed her.
"Behave like a young lady. You are not a child anymore. You have to learn to act with grace. What will your future husband think if you are so childish?" her mother's brow furrowed.
"Mother, I am still a child beside I don't have plans of marrying, I want to live and take care of you and father forever," she insisted.
" You are already 670 years old. Most girls your age are married," her mother told her while walking towards her bed.
She was then helped by her mother to settle in comfort in her bed before sitting down herself and continue to talk to her.
She laid her head in her mother's lap.
"Thank you for thinking of us always, we also don't want you to leave us, but we are not selfish to only want you. We want you to have a family too. A husband to share your joy and sorrow, to be with him forever just like I have your father," her mother said while stroking her hair.
"But I don't love anyone; it's only my older brothers who are so mushy with their wives," a guttural sound of "ugh" escaped from her mouth.
Her mother grinned at her reaction and continued to talk to her, "You react in that way now, but when it's your time to fall in love, you will understand them as they also have the same reaction as you before."
"Who is there to fall in love here?"
