“Huh!” Now, what did she do again? She knitted her brows together.
“I said get out. Didn’t you hear?” Edwin ranted, looking at her. Bloody arrogant bastard!
“I heard but why?” she was already fuming in anger. No one has ever ordered her around. Since morning, she has done her best to please him, and this egoistic devil continuously picks at her. Yet she tried to keep her calm.
“Go outside, knock on the door, then come in,” he ordered. Damn! She forgets that part.
“Can I do it next time as I am already in…” Edwin’s stern glare made her stop in the middle. Then, releasing a frustrated sigh, she walked out of the door and, giving a slight knock, she stepped inside instantly. Edwin was looking at her hopelessly.
“Did I tell you to come in?” annoyance was evident in his voice.
“You didn’t tell me to wait for your answer!” Edwin facepalmed himself inwardly. ‘What would he do with this assistant of his!’
“Are you trying to piss me off intentionally?” he asked. Veronica almost laughed, observing his expression. But instead, she shook her head vigorously.
“I don’t dare to,” she answered innocently. Edwin huffed helplessly.
“Leave those reports here, I will check later, and next time wait for my answer before coming in,” he dismissed her.
“Done,” she said, showing an ‘OK’ sign with a smile. Edwin turns his head from her before nodding. “Sorry! I almost forgot I brought lunch for you. I didn’t see you leave your office, so I assume you didn’t have lunch. I don’t know your preferences, so I brought it according to mine,” she put the small packet on the coffee table. Edwin stared for a few seconds before glancing at the lunch. Veronica waits for a few seconds for his reaction. No! Nothing!
“Don’t expect I will thank you for this. It’s your job to look after my meals. And for your kind information, you have disappointed me with this too. Lunch hour is over a long time back, and you bring it now!” Edwin stated, dropping his head back to work. Holy f*****g s**t! If this man wasn’t so gorgeous, she would have punched in his face right now.
But Veronica had enough; she wasn’t going to tolerate him anymore. She slammed her hand on his desk. Edwin looked up at her; amusement filled in his eyes.
“You know what your job is? To appreciate your employee’s hard work. AND YOU ARE A COMPLETE FAILURE IN THIS!” she shouted, pointing a finger toward him. They were glaring at each other furiously.
“Ms Smith. Don’t forget where you are standing and with whom you are talking. Although I have already told you I hate those who aren’t punctual, I still forgive you for coming to work late, for bringing my lunch late. You still have the nerve to talk to me like that!” he roared, glaring at her.
“You…!” she was shaking with anger. “You don’t need to eat,” saying that, she took the bag from the coffee table and walked out of his cabin. Edwin keeps staring at her disappearing figure.
Sitting on her chair, she was pondering what she had done. Did she overreact? Edwin did forgive her for her silliest mistakes, and she didn’t even let him eat. Should she say sorry to him?
“Ms Smith,” she was in deep thought when she heard someone call her name. She found her boss was standing beside her desk as she looked up. “Follow me,” he left as the word left his mouth. Veronica took a pen and paper and followed him silently.
Veronica kept glancing at Edwin as the meeting progressed. He looked so perfect while giving a presentation. His voice, upper body movement, sharp eyes and lip movement… she gulped, observing his perfect body structure. The way the muscle underneath his shirt moves twists butterflies in her stomach.
She was so engulfed in admiring his physique that she didn’t realize the 3-hour-long meeting was already ended. Everyone left the seminar room one by one. However, when her eyes met with Edwin’s, she found him staring at her.
“Don’t you have anything to say?” Edwin questioned.
“Don’t you think I will apologize to you. It was your fault, to begin with,” Veronica thought she would apologize to him, but she blamed him instead when the time finally came. Damn, her filthy mouth!
“My fault?” he exclaimed, pointing his fingers to himself.
“Yes. You were rude to me from the beginning,” Veronica argued. Edwin glared at her, crossing his arms over his chest. Veronica lowed her head under his gaze. She was uncertain if she should apologize or not.
“Fine! Sorry,” she mumbled with a pout. Edwin shook his head at her attitude. “Btw, can I ask you something?” she asked him with hopeful eyes, fluttering her eyelashes. Edwin gave her an approving look. “Do you have twins?”
“No,” Edwin answered almost instantly.
“Think before you answer! Well…any brother exactly looks like you?”
“NO.”
“Are you sure?” Veronica asked again.
“Why are you so insistent on me having a brother?” Edwin asked, raising his brow.
“Umm. You see, I met a guy last night. He looked exactly like you. So that’s why I was asking,” she explained.
“Why does he have to be my brother? He could be me,” Edwin stated.
“No way!” she laughed and dramatically threw her hand. Edwin didn’t mirror her expression; instead, he asked, “Why not?”
“Cause your personalities are totally different. You are a grumpy, hot-headed, egoistic creep while he is a sweet, kind, caring gentleman,” she answered. He snickered, thinking how easily she could curse her boss even standing in front of her boss himself.
“I am grumpy?” he stepped toward her as she stepped back. “I am hot-headed?” he asked, pointing at himself. Veronica gulped and shook her head. He kept stepping forward. “I am an egoistic creep?” she pushed back against the wall as she took one more step back. Edwin caged her by pressing both of his hands against the wall.
“You have similarities as well,” she blurts out. Edwin raised his brow. “You…you both are…good-looking, sexy AF.” Damn! What was she saying? Her brain wasn’t working being so close to him. He inched his face closer to her and whispered, “Are you trying to seduce me, Ms Smith?”
“Have you ever heard of seducing someone using a curse?” she asked. Good question, Vicky!
“Then you admit you were cursing me?” Edwin asked, leaning closer to her.
“I…I…” Veronica couldn’t find the word to speak. She clenched her dress. Not out of fear, she was afraid; she might not be able to control herself from pulling him toward her and pressing her lips on his alluring lips.
“Why are you torturing me, Veronica?”
Edwin whispered, caressing her face; His touch felt so familiar. It gives her the same tingly feeling. She was about to speak when Edwin put his fingers on her lips. “Shush. Don’t open your mouth; I won’t be able to control it,” his voice was husky. His voice did something to her. She had never felt something like this. His soft touch almost makes her moan. She closed her eyes and bit her lower lips to stop herself from making any noise.
All of a sudden, she felt cold. The warm touch was no longer on her face. She snapped open her eyes; She found him further away from her.
“It’s too late; go home,” Edwin stated calmly. Anger built within her. How dare he let her feel this way, then act as if nothing happened! She picked up the pen and paper and then left without saying anything.
She met Jason outside the building when she was cursing Edwin inwardly.
“What’s up? How was your first day?” Jason asked her.
“I survived,” she mocked. Jason couldn’t help but chuckle. He was about to go home when he met Veronica.
“Where do you live? Let me drop you,” he asked her like a gentleman, not like her arrogant boss, ‘It’s too late; go home.’
“It’s ok. Don’t bother. I can go by myself,” Veronica refused politely as she was waiting for a cab.
“Come on! How can I…” his phone rang all of a sudden; he excused himself to receive the call. He returned in a short while. “I am extremely sorry, Vicky. I have some urgent matters to attend to. I am so sorry. Should I call someone to drop you?” he was repeatedly apologizing.
“No. no, it’s alright. I can manage. You should attend your job,” Jason was persistent in calling someone for help, but Veronica managed to send him toward his destination.
After sending Jason off, Veronica took a cab to her apartment. What she didn’t know was that someone was following her secretly.
After paying for the cab, she walked toward her apartment. Without realizing it, her mind wandered around the thought of only the twoperson, Edwin William Roberts and that stranger. She had a gut feeling that they were the same person.
She hadn’t heard from him since morning. Should she try to talk to her through telepathy? She knew it was lame. This kind of stuff doesn’t exist. Still, what’s the harm of trying weird things! Moreover, she kind of missed him.
‘Hey! Hello there? Mr Stranger! Can you hear me? ’ no response. She might be crazy trying something useless, things like that one. Well, she didn’t know how to talk through telepathy. Did she do it in a proper process? She sighed at her own crazy act. Fine! One more go. She closed her eyes, imagined his features and concentrated on thinking about what she wanted to tell him. ‘Hey… I don’t know if you can hear me or not. If you can, please respond,’ she requested in her softest voice. And within a second, she heard his melodious voice, which was enough to wet her c**t.
‘I am here, little one,’ Veronica sighed in relief. Most likely, his voice calmed her.
‘Where the hell were you? You didn’t talk to me all day!’ she shouldn’t have blurted that out. She sounded so desperate.
‘Weren’t it you who told me to go away this morning?’ he reminded her sarcastically.
‘I…’ she was about to say something but decided against it.
‘You seem stressed. Need a hug?’ he asked Veronica nonchalantly.
‘Why are you asking? It’s not like you are here to hug me,’ she thought grumpily. It’s most likely he was waiting for her to say that word.
All of a sudden, Veronica felt a tug on her hand, and she was pulled against a hard chest with a loud thud. She gasped at the sudden impact.
