Evil Power

Edwin never felt so alive in centuries as he has felt today. His little mate makes him feel happy, alive. When he found her last night, he thought she was pretty shy, but seeing her in the office, how she reacted to his every word, and how she stood up for herself made him love her even more. Yes, love. He fell in love with her the moment when his eyes fell upon her. She is full of life; she is like a breeze of fresh air, not like him, a cold-blooded creature. Sometimes he is afraid that the monster inside him might not harm his little fairy. He tried so hard not to touch her or hold her in his arms, yet he failed miserably; he almost kissed her. Her feisty attitude and innocence, yet full of mischief-filled eyes, made him lose control over himself over and over. After she left the conference room, he followed her silently without noticing. When he found his dickhead employee Jason, his other best friend with his mate, outside his office, he was beyond pissed off. It's not like he is a playboy like Sam; still, seeing his mate with another guy angered him till wanting to rip his head off. "Hey, Winnie! What's up?" a cheerful voice rang in his ear as his idiotic friend answered his call. "f**k, Jace! Didn't I tell you don't call me by that name?" Edwin roared. "Whoa, dude, why are you so pissed off? Did someone step on your tail?" Jason joked, as usual. "I don't have a tail!" Edwin snarled again. Jason couldn't help but laugh his ass off, making Edwin angered more. "Don't laugh, you i***t! STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM MY MATE!" he jeered at Jason, who choked his laugh hearing the word 'MATE'. "YOU FOUND YOUR MATE! AND IT'S VICKY!" Jason shouted in excitement. He was also waiting for his mate, just like Edwin. But, on the other hand, Sam is the one in their group who doesn't want one. He wants to be free because, according to him, 'once you get a mate, you lose your freedom.' "Do you need a mike to announce?" Edwin barked over the phone. Edwin wished he could announce to the world that he had found his mate, but he wanted to tell Veronica his identity first. Nevertheless, Edwin is afraid to disclose his true identity. What if she wouldn't want him after knowing that he is a monster? "Ops…Sorry. I was just so excited. Congrats, dude. I am so happy for you! And don't worry, I won't hook up with my best friend's mate," Jason exclaimed. Edwin sighed; he was so angry that he didn't consider it the friend he was thinking about. "Btw, take care of her. She is a sweetheart." "I know," Edwin mumbled before hanging up. After Jason left, he continued to follow Veronica. When she was close enough to her apartment, a sweet voice rang loudly in his head, calling for him through their mind link. He can hear her thoughts, which is unusual. Mates can only mind-link each other after their mating process is complete. Yet here he is, hearing his mate's thoughts right after finding her. He can even sense her feelings. She is stressed right now, and Edwin can feel it. And when Veronica said, 'It's not like you are here to hug me,' was the cue to cut the last thread of his self-control which was resisting him from holding his little fairy in his arms. Veronica relaxed in his arms when she sensed it was only him. Suddenly she pushed him, which caught Edwin by surprise. "Are you Edwin William Roberts?" she asked, giving him a stern glare. He didn't respond; he just gave her a soft smile and cupped her face like she was a doll made of glass, and she would be broken if he touched her a little harder. "Am I a selfish, arrogant bastard like your boss, little one?" her eyes softened as Edwin asked her. She shook her head negatively. To her, he was the gentlest, caring and softhearted person she had ever seen. "You can call me Eddy," Veronica gave her sweetest smile, brightening up his night again. But his shine was short-lived; his world darkened again as he saw his little fairy slumped down on the ground clenching her head, releasing a painful scream. Edwin clutched her in his arms before her body touched the ground. "Little fairy! Little fairy! Are you okay? Look at me, please," Edwin pleaded. Worry and fear clenched him in a rugged grip as he looked at his mate's pale face. Painful muffles escape from her mouth from time to time. She was wriggling in his arms. "Little one, please tell me what's happening to you?" his voice sounded so agonizing that he was trying to stay calm. "Eddy," he was about to lash out when Veronica's slow voice relaxed him a little. "Please, make it stop. It's hurting so much. Please. Augh!" she squirmed in pain like a fish out of water. Edwin had never felt so helpless in his entire life. He has no idea what's going on with his little mate. Edwin doesn't know what to do to protect her. He could give his life to prevent her from getting hurt, but he wasn't sure if it would work this time. "Please! Someone help," Edwin screamed, clenching his mate in his arms tightly as a drop of tear escaped from his eyes. For the first time in centuries, Edwin William Roberts had shed a tear for a woman. "Let me help, lad", a short old woman in her late sixties announced, kneeling beside them. Edwin scowled at her. "Ooh, don't scowl at me; it won't cure her, will it?" "Who are you?" he hissed at her, pulling Veronica closer to his chest. "Knowing that isn't your priority right now. If you want to save Veronica, you got to trust me. Now, let's get her inside first," he was reluctant at first, but seeing his mate's pale face, he gave up. The old lady is the only one right now who can help, maybe. Though he kept his guard up just in case… he scooped Veronica in his arms and took her inside. The old lady followed them all the way. Edwin gently laid her down in her bed and backed away, giving the lady access to examine her. The lady's eyes widened for a split second while examining Veronica, then she turned to Edwin and said, "Come with me for a second." Edwin unwillingly followed her to the corner of the room. "We don't have much time. There's only one way to protect her. You need to feed her your blood," the old lady stated. "WHAT! Who are you? You aren't a normal human or vampire! So tell me, honestly, what do you want?" Edwin barked out. Any human wouldn't suggest feeding blood to a person. She must have a hidden motive. "What is more important to you… my identity or your mate's life? Trust me… the only thing I want is her safety," she said the last part softly, looking at Veronica. Edwin looked hesitant to trust her word. "How will my blood help?" he asked. "Your blood will awaken her inner strength. That way, she will be able to block the evil power overpowering her mind now," Edwin didn't understand a word she said. Observing his scowling expression, she snickered, shaking her head. "She is more powerful than you can imagine," now it's getting weird. "What do you mean by that?" Edwin jeered. "Ooh boy! You have a lot of questions!" the old lady sneered. "I will answer all your questions but save her first," she told Edwin. And he is gonna trust her for the last time. Well, she is her mate. So, there's no harm in feeding her his blood. He will get the old lady after his little fairy gets well. "Stay here. You need to explain everything you know," after ordering the lady, Edwin rushed to his mate's side. He scooped Veronica in his arms. She was still struggling against the invisible power. 'Everything will be alright, little fairy,' saying that, he bit his tongue to draw blood; he lowered his head then pressed his lips on hers. Edwin feeds her blood through his mouth. After pulling back, he was staring at her intensely. For what seemed like an eternity, Veronica fluttered her eyelashes; Edwin released his breath which he was holding. "How are you feeling, little one?" Edwin asked desperately, as Veronica opened her eyes. "Better," she whispered, giving her sweet smile, which he was dying to see. Edwin sighed in relief and embraced her in a tight hug. "You scared me to death, little one," he mumbled, nuzzling her neck. She pulled back and wept his tears with her palm. And mocked him, saying, "I thought men didn't cry!" "You make me cry, Veronica Smith! I haven't cried since my birth!!" Edwin yelled in frustration, which made Veronica's smile grow wider. "So, the kiss dissipates all this pain?" she asked in a voice coated with curiosity as she put a distance between them. Edwin shrugged. "How did you get that idea from fairy tales?" she giggled, thinking 'Her life must have become a fairy tale. Did she step inside a book of a kid's fairy tales?' Edwin stared at her amusingly. How can she be so full of life? Veronica was smiling as if nothing had happened! "I can exactly feel how the frog prince felt when he turned into a human after the princess's kiss!" she gushed excitedly. Edwin can't help but laugh after what feels like an eternity. "Sorry to disappoint you again, little fairy. That old lady…" when he turned around, he found no one. That old woman disappeared. 'That old fart tricked me! Once I get my hold on you, you are finished!' Edwin muttered to himself. "Umm, my inner voice told me to try something out of the ordinary. So I tried, and it worked," he lied, as he didn't want to make her worry. Edwin pulled her to his chest again, inhaling her sweet scent; that's when he found the note. His blood boiled reading the message. He clenched the letter in a fist, and it turned into ashes within seconds. How dare that old fart say he was a danger to his sweet mate! He will hunt her down and rip her head off for spouting such nonsense… 'Take care of your mate. She will be in danger from now on, as you are in her life. It's not a threat, just a warning before the storm.'
