Veronica was so scared when she felt a sharp pain in her head. There was a nagging sensation behind her head like someone was chanting continuously… in a foreign language. She tried to shake this feeling but couldn’t. The throbbing pain was growing with every passing moment. Her head was like a volcano which was about to explode. She wasn’t able to hear a thing! And then a familiar voice rang in her head.
‘Everything will be alright, little fairy.’
Then she felt the touch… the touch of his soft lips… the touch of his warm hand, which smoothed the pain. All the nagging sensations started to reduce. When she opened her eyes, she found Eddy was holding her as if his life depended on her…staring at her with concern-filled eyes. She smiled at him. Then she realized the man she had not met for longer than 24 hours had become a part of her life. The man who dropped tears for her… only for her. And she never wanted to lose this man.
The next morning when she woke up, she didn’t find Eddy anywhere. Last night he was there for her, soothing her with his words when she said, ‘My life is getting weirder.’ He makes her fall asleep, caressing her head tenderly and placing soft kisses on her forehead.
‘Was it a dream?’ she thought to herself, getting disappointed. Then, almost instantly, she heard another voice ring in her head that she was desperately waiting to hear.
‘No, little fairy, it wasn’t a dream.’ Her smile grew wider as she heard him.
‘Eddy! Where are you?’ Veronica screamed out. Edwin couldn’t help but laugh at his little mate’s enthusiasm.
‘I have to attend some business, little one. So I left early. I will meet you in the evening. So don’t miss me too much!’ he smugly voiced.
‘Who said I will miss you?’ she denied with a pout. Edwin can only imagine how cute she looks when she does that.
‘You won’t?’
‘Nope!’ Veronica answered Edwin firmly. Though she knew she would miss him every single moment. Hell! She had started to miss him already!
‘Ah! That hurts!’ Edwin faked a pained voice, placing his hand over his heart. Veronica laughed at his cuteness. The sound of her laughing pleased his ears. ‘Alright, little one, I gotta go. And tell me instantly if you felt something like last night; I will be there in a second. Okay?’ Edwin stated.
‘Okay.’
‘Bye, little one. See you soon,’ as Edwin’s voice faded away, Veronica got ready for another new day.
------------------------
Edwin reached his company right on time. He entered the elevator and pressed the close button. It opened again when the elevator was about to close, revealing a breathless Veronica. She rushed inside the lift before it closed again.
Edwin was struggling to keep his hands off himself. He wants nothing more than to pull his mate to his chest and calm her down, but instead, he does something he shouldn’t have.
“Don’t you read the sign of the private elevator outside of it?” Edwin asked in a deep voice.
“I did. But the other lifts were occupied, and it’s the only one available, and I was running out of time,” she shrugged.
“Everyone is busy in this office, so if everyone started to use this elevator, what’s the difference between public and private,” Edwin roared. He didn’t want to use that voice on his mate. But she needs to see the monstrous side of him too. She has to accept the devil within him. Veronica’s gaze hardens. She pushed Edwin to the wall and pressed her little hand on either side of him.
“Mr Edwin William Roberts, if you weren’t so adamant about being punctual, I wouldn’t have used this lift,” She hissed. In a split second, Edwin grabbed Veronica’s shoulder and turned her to where he was a moment ago.
“Ms Veronica Smith, do you have a habit of being rude to your boss?” Edwin snarled. Veronica was about to open her mouth when the elevator dinged, indicating they had reached their floor. “Come to my office right away,” giving the order to Veronica, Edwin walked out of the elevator.
‘Bloody arrogant jerk!’ Veronica mumbled as she went to her desk, took her tab and went to her arrogant boss’s office.
“Ms Smith, you will be working with the director of the planning department, Ms Matthews, and report directly to me from now on. Is that clear?” Edwin started using his professional voice.
“Yes…” Veronica was cut off by the sound of the door swinging open, and a guy, just as handsome as his boss, barged inside and slammed his body on the couch on the left side of the room. He has blonde hair and a lean muscular body, exactly like Edwin. Both of them turned to the intruders and then at each other. Veronica gave Edwin a confused yet amused gaze. ‘How can she give so much expression at a time!’ Edwin wondered. He sighed, shaking his head.
“Go. Take these reports to Ms Matthews,” Veronica nodded and left the room, glancing one last time at the man who was still lying motionlessly on the couch on his chest, turning his head to the other side.
After Veronica left, Edwin grabbed a paperweight and threw it at his annoying best friend. Sam caught that paperweight with one hand and turned his head to Edwin.
“It’s a rude way to greet your friend!” Sam whined at him.
“You were missing for two f*****g nights, and you want my greetings now?” Edwin scoffed.
“You wouldn’t have said that if you knew how many things happened to me in the last two nights! You won’t believe what happened to me!” Sam exclaimed, sitting straight on the couch facing Edwin. Edwin shook his head as his life also turned 180 degrees in the last 36 hours.
“So do you,” Edwin mumbled.
“Mine was a terrifying ride,” Sam shivered, shaking his head as he remembered.
“For me, it was a beautiful dream,” a smile finds its way to his face as Veronica’s lovely face flashes through his mind.
“Fine! On the count of three,” Sam suggested, as he held his three fingers up.
One…
Two…
Three…
“I found my Mate!” “I found my Mate!” They screamed out at the same time. Sometimes Edwin wondered if they both shared the same fate.
“WHAT!” they again shrieked in unison. Sam used his vampire speed, and in a split second, he was in front of Edwin. “Who?” he threw a question at Edwin, wriggling his brow.
“The one who left just after you came in,” Sam’s eyes widened as he remembered Veronica’s face.
“She is gorgeous! You hit the jackpot, dude!” Sam exclaimed, pointing to the door. Edwin smirked as his best friend was right; he indeed hit the jackpot. “Btw, I heard you told her to work with the planning department’s director. As much as I heard, she is strict as hell! Are you torturing her for being your mate?” he asked sarcastically as he sat on the chair across from Edwin.
“I don’t have the heart to torture her. I just want her to be habituated to hearing criticism. The royal court isn’t easy to deal with. It’s more cruel than the world in which she grew up,” Edwin stated with a sigh.
“Don’t push her too hard; what if she gives up on you!” Edwin scoffed, hearing Sam. He doesn’t know Edwin’s mate yet.
“She is much stronger than you think,” he said. “Now tell me about your….” Edwin stopped at the mid-sentence, hearing a scream.
His little fairy’s scream! Is she in danger now? Did she feel the same pain as last night? What will he do if she is some other kind of danger this time? Was that old lady right about him being a danger to his little one? Thousands of questions were swirling around his mind as he ran towards the scream using his vampire speed.
