Veronica was standing in the middle of the library, gasping at the size of the room and the humongous amount of books it contained.
“So, you are saying we can find information about the Lycan here?” Veronica asked, still trying to absorb the fact that this library contains books about all kinds of supernatural. Edwin merely gave her a nod with a forced smile. He had been like this since God knows when, and she was missing the carefree Edwin terribly. He looked tired, as if he hadn’t slept properly for days. She was so worried about him.
Edwin collected a few books from the shelves and placed the books on a large table—large enough for 40 people to read together comfortably. Edwin and Veronica sat beside each other. Edwin took a book and began flipping its pages mindlessly. Veronica never saw him so distracted. She softly placed her hand on his cheek. But Edwin flinched visibly at the sudden contact. Edwin held her wrist lightly and leaned on her touch as she was about to retract her hand at Edwin’s sudden response.
Veronica was patiently waiting for him to talk. Edwin closed his eyes and took a deep breath before looking at her.
“I had a nightmare last night—well, not a nightmare... it’s a glimpse of my past memories,” he gulped down at the images that flashed in front of him. “I have told you that I had lost some of my memories, didn’t I?” Veronica nodded as the images of that day played in her mind. “I got those memories back,” he said, looking down at Veronica’s hand, which he was holding.
“It was painful, wasn’t it?” Veronica murmured slowly, sensing the pain in his voice. Edwin shook his head with a small smile.
“It was the most beautiful memory I have ever had, yet the most painful one,” Edwin smiled at Veronica’s confused yet cute gaze. “It was during the war centuries ago that I first saw her. She was beautiful, adorable; she had the cutest smile in the world,” he said with his sparkling blue eyes. “My precious mate. I was only 18 when I first met her,” Veronica’s eyes widen as he continues. “But I had lost her the moment I met her...I lost her. I couldn’t even touch her hand,” his voice cracked at last. He sounded so vulnerable.
Veronica stared at her with unreadable eyes. She felt a ping of pain in her heart as he talked about his mate.
“And you know what, I have met her again centuries later,” Edwin gushed dreamingly. Veronica’s eyes blurred with unshed tears. She didn’t have the heart to see Edwin with another woman.
“Who is she?” Veronica let out a murderous growl. Her eyes turned from their beautiful brown to a shade of bright green. If she hadn’t worn the bracelet, she would have shifted already.
Edwin couldn’t help but stare at her with adoration. He leaned down and placed a kiss on her cheek. His touch instantly calmed her. Her eyes turned back to their original color but were still clouded with unshaded tears.
Edwin pulled her in his lap and whispered into her ears, “It’s you, silly.” Veronica pulled back and stared into his eyes with a look that translated as ‘Are you kidding?’
“So... you are saying you met me centuries ago?” Veronica asked Edwin incredulously, and he gave her a nod. Veronica frowned at that and pushed Edwin, saying, “I am not old like you.”
“I am old?” Edwin raised his brow at Veronica, who instantly put on a fake sad face and said, “Oops, sorry,” before smirking, “...Ancient.”
“Ancient?” Edwin leaned towards Veronica, placing both of his hands on the bench on either side of her. She snacked her hand around his neck and said, “An antique, to be honest,” before placing a peck on his lips and giggling. A small smile played on Edwin’s lips as he watched her giggle.
“I was serious,” Edwin murmured a while later. Veronica sighed.
“How can you be so sure?”
“Cause the mate bond I felt back then is the same right now; you felt the same,” he replied. Veronica stared at him with an unreadable expression.
“Are there any more secrets about me that I don’t know?” the sarcasm was dripping from her words. Edwin looked at her sympathetically before confessing everything he knew about her and her parents.
“I guess I won’t be able to meet my parents ever,” Veronica said with a deep sigh. Edwin gave her a worried look. “Hey...chill out. It’s not like I knew about them months ago,” she said, giving Edwin her most charming smile.

Edwin was going through the books for the past hour for information but got nothing. Feeling frustrated, he turned to his mate, who fell asleep, drooling over the book. He smiled at his cute, innocent mate. He leaned down to kiss her soft lips.
“Get a room, dude,” Veronica jumped up at Eli’s loud voice, while Edwin was startled and leaned back, muttering curses. Veronica looked around innocently to comprehend what was happening.
“Bastard,” Eli snickered at Edwin’s words and muttered “I know” before disappearing into the shelves. Veronica swatted Edwin’s arm, glaring at him. “I didn’t mean to,” he uttered with a pout. She sighed, shaking her head, before following Eli.
Eli was standing in front of a shelf. Veronica stopped behind him and put a hand on his shoulder, which instantly relaxed under her touch. “You know, Cupcake, I am so jealous of Edd,” he uttered suddenly. Veronica waited for him to say more, but he didn’t; she wanted to ask but decided against it. Instead, she asked him her most-awaited question.
“What happened to you that day?”
“I lost control over my demon,” Eli shrugged, leaning against the shelf.
“No, before that. You were squirming on the couch, clenching your heart...” She trailed off, hoping he would understand what she was asking.
There was a gloomy look on his face before he masked his emotions. “Nothing.”
“Fine, you don’t have to tell me if you don’t think of me as a friend,” Veronica stomped her foot and crossed her arms over her chest with a pout. Eli was startled at her words. She thinks of him as her friend? It’s been centuries since someone called him a friend. He was all alone for centuries. And she was asking her right as a friend.
“Blood curse,” Eli whispered. Veronica turned to him to find out more, but he remained silent.
“What’s a blood curse?” Veronica asked, not being able to resist her curiosity.
“It’s a curse, silly,” Eli said, tapping his finger on Veronica’s forehead. Veronica sighed, knowing she wouldn’t get anything else from him.
“What are you searching for?” Eli asked when she was looking for some particular books.
“A way to break your curse,” Eli put his hand on hers, looking down at her intently.
“I know how to break it. But it isn’t possible anymore,” Eli said, giving her a tight smile. She looked at him confusedly. “Only my mate can break the curse.”
“Don’t worry, you will find her soon,” she said, placing her hand on his arm.
“I already had one,” he said, looking down as if remembering his past with a grimace. “She liked Edd more than me, so she rejected me the moment I met her,” he confessed, something he never told anyone.
“Eli, you can choose your mate, as everyone does,” Veronica tried to console him.
He leaned down to face her. “I need someone who will love me unconditionally and selflessly,” he said. “But there’s no unconditional love anymore,” he added, backing away.
“Don’t worry. You’ll find that someone,” Veronica told him softly with a smile. Eli was looking at her intently. Lots of emotions were flooding into his eyes. And in an instant, Veronica was in his arms. Veronica was stunned for a second before relaxing in his arms. His arms were wrapped around her, and his face was in the crook of her neck as if inhaling her scent could reduce his pain.
Eli moved away from her as he grimaced and caressed her face, saying, “I am not that lucky like Edd.” Before leaving the library, Eli gave her a gentle kiss on the forehead.
Veronica was standing there, flushed. How Eli’s simple action could make her so gushy—it’s as if she were with Edwin. How could she feel the same way about both brothers?
As she turned around, she found Edwin standing there. His eyes were red with anger, and his fist turned white due to the tight grip. For a moment, Veronica thought he was angry with her. She approached him, taking baby steps. She placed her hand on his arm hesitantly.
“How dare that b***h that she rejected my brother—Edwin William Roberts’ brother!” a murderous growl escaped from his lips, making her flinch. “I can’t even imagine how much pain he has endured,” his tone sounded almost broken.
“Hey, she didn’t deserve him anyway,” she consoled him, giving him a faint smile.
“Thank you,” Edwin said, giving her a genuine smile. “...for supporting him,” he added to remove the cute frown from Veronica’s face. “He deserves someone to cheer him up, to accompany him,” he confessed with a faraway look.
“Why can’t you be that one?” Edwin exhaled a long sigh.
“I had my reasons,” he grimaced, as if it were hard for him to describe. She gave him an understanding smile.
“Don’t be so dejected. I will take the responsibility for you,” she assured him with her most charming smile that Edwin couldn’t resist.
He drew her close to him and started kissing her, cupping her face. A soft moan escaped from her lips as she deepened the kiss. Veronica hopped on him, wrapping her hands around his neck without breaking the kiss. He held her protectively and took her to the table. He pushed all the books aside and put Veronica down on the table.
Veronica felt hot all over again after breaking their dazzling kiss. The kiss was so magical that they got lost in each other. Edwin’s magical touch erupts butterflies in her stomach, and small tingles all over her body stimulate her, making her feel dizzy with overwhelming emotions.
Veronica’s scent was so intoxicating that he couldn’t resist his irresistible desire for her. Veronica’s heart was beating so fast that he could hear the sound of her fresh blood flowing through her veins. Edwin pushed himself deep inside Veronica and sank his fangs into the arteries of her neck to fulfill his thirst and desire right at the table in the library.
