Mate

Lub-dub lub-dub lub-dub... The sound of a heart racing... But why? Why is his heart racing like an unrestrained horse? Their kind's hearts don’t race. They are cold-blooded creatures. Sweat was dripping down his forehead. His body was reacting strangely. Is there something wrong with him? “Another nightmare?” his blonde-haired best friend asked. Concern was swarming in his hazel eyes. He nodded at his best friend. “Then come with me to the club. It will lighten up your mood and your night,” he winked, giving a wicked grin. “Samuel Anderson, can’t you think something else other than girls!” he was fed up with his friend’s playboy attitude. Always tangled up with trouble and then he had to step in to fix his friend's mess. Sam chuckled when hearing his friend. “Dude, I am not like you. Waiting for someone whom I can never find. It’s useless,” Sam shrugged. “Then settle with one,” he sneered, throwing his pillow, aiming at Sam’s face. Sam dodged using his supernatural speed. “Will think about it,” Sam replied with another shrug. His phone rang before he could throw another fist toward his friend. He groaned with frustration when he checked the caller's id. “Hello, father,” he used his deep formal voice while answering the phone. “Edwin William Roberts, I hope you haven’t forgotten our deal yet,” his father, Emanuel Roberts, an authoritative voice rang over the phone. “No, father. But I think I still have another year,” he replied with a calm and collective voice, though he was so f*****g frustrated with the whole situation. “I just wanted to remind you. Can you find someone within a year whom you haven’t found over centuries?” his father’s mocking voice rang in his ears. He clenched his fist and closed his eyes to calm down. “I can,” he answered after taking a few deep breaths. He has doubts about his own confidence, but Emanuel Roberts doesn’t need to know that. He huffed in relief after ending the call. “He is right though, and you know that too. Why don’t you join me today? There’s a huge possibility that you can meet her there,” Sam suggested, checking himself in the mirror. “I am handsome, aren’t I? That’s why girls are dying to have s*x with me,” he added with a sly grin. Edwin snickered. Bastard! He is so full of himself. “Have fun!” wishing his best friend luck, he picked up his leather jacket and went out of his suite, ignoring Sam’s blabbering. He doesn’t feel like clubbing today. He needed fresh air to clear his mind. ‘Where are you?’ he mused to himself as he walked down the street where his lags were taking him. 100 years, that's how much time his father gave him to find his soulmate. And now there is only one year left. If he can’t find her in one year, he has to go back and mate with someone else who isn’t his, to begin with. Now he started to wonder if the blood goddess had made someone for him. He has been waiting for centuries, traveling around the world, but the result is zero. He pulled out of his thought when a sweet scent hit his nostrils. The scent is intoxicating. He sniffed the air again, the scent was dazzling him and it grew stronger. He followed the scent, closing his eyes, which led him to the woods. Soon enough, someone bumped into him. He snapped open his eyes. It was a tiny little girl with dark black hair. He felt the spark that she touched. He missed the warmth as soon as she stepped back. His eyes widened as his eyes met her dark brown catty eyes. She is the most beautiful woman he has ever seen. He sniffed the air again. The sweet intoxicating scent was coming from her. She smells exactly like a fairy. She is a fairy. His fairy. The weird feeling that he felt before coming back to him. His heart was beating faster and louder than ever. His heart dropped as she collapsed in his arms. He was staring at her as if she was the most precious treasure in this world. He knew that moment he have to protect this treasure. His beautiful mate. He caressed her face, which was as soft as milk. He can gawk and admire her through eternity. “Little fairy, little fairy, open your eyes,” he whispered in her ear. Her eyes fluttered open. She was staring at him with wide eyes. “You are handsome,” she murmured smilingly. Wow, she has a killer smile and her voice can erect his manhood within moments. “So do you,” he replied, giving her his brightest smile. Then something snapped within her. She sat up with a jolt. “Are you alright, little one,” he asked in a concerned voice. “I...I...I sa...saw...th...there...” she was struggling to form a word. She was scared. He cupped her face before cradling her. She instantly relaxes in his arms. “It’s alright, little fairy. There’s no need to be afraid. I am here,” his soothing words were a calming breeze to her. She felt protected and safe around him. “What did you see?” he asked her softly. She was about to blurt out, then stopped herself. “You won’t believe me?” she mumbled almost like a whimper. ‘Silly girl. How come he does not believe her,’ he mused. “I will believe everything you tell me,” he assured her, caressing her head. “Do you believe in paranormal creatures?” she asked out of curiosity, as she didn’t want him to think she was lying. Well, no one will believe what she saw. She can’t even believe in herself. She is either in a weird dream or she is hallucinating. “You know, little fairy, the world is mysterious. We know very little about our surroundings. There are lots of trees that haven’t been named yet. There are lots of living organisms inside the sea that haven’t been discovered yet. That doesn’t mean they don’t exist, isn’t it, little one?” he explained softly, caressing her head. She nodded. “The same goes for paranormal creatures. Maybe they exist somewhere and haven’t been discovered yet or they are experts at hiding themselves. So, yeah, I believe in paranormal creatures,” he concluded with a smile. He smiles a lot today. Maybe because he found a rare treasure. His little fairy. “What about you? Do you believe in them?” he asked her softly. “I... It’s silly,” she muttered, adjusting herself in his lap comfortably, which she hadn’t noticed yet. How comfortable she is around this stranger she met only half an hour ago. “Tell me,” he insists. “When I was younger I always wished to have a... vampire boyfriend,” he couldn’t help but chuckle at her mate's words. “Told you, it's silly,” she hid her face into his chest in embracement. ‘Your wish fulfilled little one’ he murmured in an inaudible voice that didn’t reach her. “Suppose, if one day a man comes in front of you and says, ‘Hi. I am a vampire. Will you be my girlfriend?’ Will you accept?” he asked. His eyes filled with curiosity and hope. She shrugged. “Depend. If he is as handsome as you, I will accept instantly,” she replied with a mischievous grin on her face. It made him laugh loudly. She was ogling at him, admiring his beautiful laughter. ‘How can a man be so gorgeous!’ she thought to herself. At that moment, her stomach grumbled, making him stop laughing midway. “Looks like someone hasn’t eaten yet,” he commented. “Actually...” she fidgets her fingers as she remembered why she is out at this late hour. “Let’s make you eat something,” he said, standing up with her in his arms. She protested saying, ‘I can walk.’ But didn’t listen. “Close your eyes,” she did as he said, and within a second, he was in front of a diner using his supernatural speed. “We are here,” she opened her eyes as he announced their arrival. “That was fast!” she exclaimed. “Well, we were near,” he lied to cover his silly mistake. “You can put me down now,” she said softly, tugging his shirt. He listened to her this time. He puts her down, giving her a smile. This man smiles a lot. And his smile is breathtaking. It really was a dream for her. And if it’s a dream she doesn’t wanna wake up. ‘Wait! What are you doing Vicky! No matter how good-looking and generous he is, he is still a stranger to you! You can’t be smitten with him in this short while,’ her brain warned her. But with him, no logic seems to fit. Still, she got a grip on her behavior with lots of resistance from her heart. After dinner, that stranger wanted to walk to her residence but refused politely. He was amused by her sudden change of behavior. She was so smitten with him a while ago and shows resistance. His mate is really amusing. He agreed not to walk with her but secretly followed her to make sure she reached home safely. He returned to his suite after sending her off. He couldn’t have been happier. He found her mate he had been searching for centuries and it’s worth waiting for her. “We will meet again, little fairy,” he mumbled, throwing himself on the bed. ‘Are you missing me, little fairy?’
