Eli witnessed the confusion, fear, and pain flashing in her beautiful dark brown eyes. Her next response shocked him at first as her soft lips pressed on his. His body was filled with desire which he had never felt for any woman in his entire life. He involuntarily pulled Veronica closer to him as he deepened the kiss. They lost themselves in the moment, as if everything faded around them...there was only him and his sweet cupcake.
She was as sweet as the nickname he gave her—delicious. For a moment, Eli forgot about the hellish life he had. The stabbing pain he was feeling vanished within seconds.
A few moments later, Veronica abruptly pulled away. Eli sat there, stunned for a second, before realizing what they were doing. His chest tightened as soon as his eyes landed on Veronica, whose hands were clasping her head. Eli heard a few incoherent words escape from her lips like a whimper.
“Cupcake, what happened? Are you okay?” he asked in a concerned voice.
“Eddy,” she whispered breathlessly. Edwin appeared beside her within seconds and wrapped her in his arms. His touch and closeness remitted her pain a bit.
“What happened, little one?” Edwin asked in a painful voice, as the idea of his mate being in pain hurt him even more.
“It’s hurting more than before,” she whimpered.
“Sush, don’t worry, little fairy, I will make it go away,” said Edwin, scooping her up in his arms, and he ran out of the club. Eli followed them. Clueless and concerned about what was happening to his sweet cupcake.
They reached a clearing, and Edwin sat her behind a giant tree. Both brothers sat beside her, holding her hands. Their touch somehow kept her from going insane. The continuous chanting and nagging in her head seemed to increase by the second.
Edwin and Eli turned their heads as the flapping sound of wings echoed in the quiet environment. A giant dragon descends from the sky. He shifted to his human form, and it was none other than the dragon prince— Rayan Damian Astor.
Edwin blocked his path as he was about to approach his little mate.
“Move,” Rayan’s deep, dominating voice echoed through the forest. Anyone can be intimidated by his authority, but Edwin stood there, unmoving.
“Let him go if you want to save your mate,” a female voice rang in Edwin's ear. His eyes widened as he looked up at the woman. She was the same old lady who helped his little fairy when she was in pain before.
“You...! Who the hell are you, and what the f**k do you want?” Edwin roared at her.
She grimaced, looking at Veronica’s squirming figure. “Trust me, I want nothing more than her safety,” she said, uttering the same word she had told him before. Edwin scowled at her before turning his head towards the impatient dragon.
“Even if I can trust you for a few moments, I can’t trust a f*****g dragon. Rayan snickered at his words.
“At least I don’t go around and kill others mate,” Rayan snarled at Edwin.
“You...” Edwin was cut off by Eli’s angry voice.
“f**k, Edd. Do you have any other options? If you haven’t, then let him help. She is suffering.” Eli’s voice cracked while he spoke the last sentence.
Edwin stepped back reluctantly and went back to Veronica and Eli.
“Now if you want to save her, you need to work together—three of you,” the old woman’s voice echoed around them.
Rayan approached them and kneeled in front of Veronica, much to Edwin’s and Eli’s disapproval, but they remained silent for her sake.
Veronica’s eyes snapped open as Rayan touched her face. An overwhelming emotion flowed through her body. But a sudden wave of pain hit her again, making her gasp and close her eyes.
“Veronica, calm down and focus on your energy,” a loving voice rang in her head.
She did what she was told. She felt three combined powers surge through her body. She suddenly felt warm—so warm that it overwhelmed her emotions. She entangled those energies with her own. They were dancing together as if they were meant to be. She guided the combined energy to the origin through which the evil energy was rushing. She pushed her energy harder through the barrier and sealed the channel once and for all.
The pain, the continuous chanting, and the sensation stopped. But the heat inside her didn’t die down. She felt complete. She heard concerned voices around her, but she didn’t want to open her eyes yet...what if the feeling vanished as soon as she opened her eyes?
“Why isn’t she opening her eyes yet?” Eli voiced concern for no one in particular.
“She will. Let her relax for a while,” the old lady said.
“What was she suffering for?” Eli asked again, concerned and confused.
“Someone, specifically some witch, was trying to cast a spell on her to control her mind,” Rayan answered.
“Why?” Edwin asked in a whisper. Rayan smirked at him.
“Shouldn’t you know better? Let me enlighten you. Cause you... are...a... danger…to her,” Rayan barked out, emphasizing each word.
And that was the last string to break his self-control. Edwin grabbed Rayan’s shirt and was about to punch him, but her soft voice stopped him.
Edwin jerked his head towards her, only to find her eyes wide open, staring at him disapprovingly. He retracted his hand and breathed in relief, drowning himself in her eyes. Rayan took the chance to slip away from them.
“You were supposed to apologize,” Veronica said in a weak voice, watching Rayan leave from the corner of her eyes.
“Not now, little fairy. It’s not the best tim...” Edwin groaned in frustration, only to be cut off by her.
“You promised,” Veronica stated, looking straight into his eyes, leaving no place to argue. Edwin sighed visibly, shaking his head, and gave Eli a look that said, ‘Take care of her until I am back’ before following Rayan.
The old woman stepped forward and kneeled in front of her. She stroked Veronica’s face with affection, giving her a soft smile, which Veronica returned instinctively.
“Do you wanna know a secret?” Veronica frowned at her words. Watching her confusion, the old lady whispered something in her ear. Veronica’s eyes widened at her words. “We will meet soon, sweetheart,” the woman said, giving her a small smile and giving her a kiss on her forehead before disappearing with a wink.
Feeling a pair of eyes on her, Veronica looked up, only to find Eli staring at her concernedly.
“Feeling better?” Veronica nodded at Eli, giving him a soft smile. Suddenly her cheek turned hot, remembering their earlier encounter.
“Earlier...”
“We were drunk. Forget it ever happened,” Eli breathed out before Veronica could even start. Veronica forced a smile at him.
He was right; it was nothing but a drunken mistake. She would never have done that if she were sober. She wouldn’t ever betray the man she loved more than her life.
“You are tired. Sleep,” Eli said, caressing her head softly. And without thinking about how weird her life had turned, she drifted to sleep in Eli’s arms.

A burst of energy threw the witch across the room and hit her back against the wall. The formation she drew on the basement floor with various ingredients was destroyed. Her chanting stopped as she coughed blood. She whimpered in pain, but before she could get a hold of herself, a hand choked her to death, glaring at her murderously.
“I gave you numerous chances to prove yourself, and you messed up every time,” he growled, tightening his grip.
“I...I...” she coughed as his grip obstructed her breathing. “There’s... There’s someone... helping...her,” she breathed out. She was on the verge of losing consciousness when he threw her on the floor. She started coughing uncontrollably.
“What do you mean? Are there any more Lycans out there?” His voice boomed through the room, making her flinch in fear.
“No. But I felt something utterly unworldly power in her that I hadn’t felt before,” she explained when she steadied herself a little.
“I don’t want to know how powerful she is. I only need you to track the hybrid princess,” he roared.
“I-I can’t,” she gulped as he narrowed his eyes. “She sealed the channel. I can’t control her anymore,” her voice came out as a whimper.
He gripped her neck again as soon as the sentence left her lips. “Are you saying you can’t give me what I want? Then there’s no reason for me to keep you alive,” he said with an evil smirk before tightening his grip.
“If you kill me... then you won’t ever... succeed,” she coughed, gasping for air.
“As if you are the only witch alive,” he snickered.
“But I am... the only witch... who knew your... dirty secret,” she breathed out. His expression darkened. His claws extended, and his eyes turned red.
“More reason for me to kill you,” he growled, desperate to kill the filthy witch. The only reason he was keeping her alive was to gain more power so that he could rule the world.
“I know... I know... how you can find her,” she said quickly, to save her life. He loosened his grip on her.
“Spell it.”
“Your son... Only the crown prince can help you with this. He can control the fire element. So, in this kingdom, only he has the ability to find the hybrid princess. But for this, his coronation needed to be completed,” the witch fell to the ground as Emanuel Roberts retracted his hands with an evil smirk.
