Veronica was on the way to the Queen’s room. Amaya informed that the Queen summoned her. Edwin needed to attend to his royal duties. That was why he couldn’t accompany her. So, he advised Veronica to behave. According to him, she was a trouble magnate.
He actually had the nerve to utter that word. But damn! His dominant form in bed was so f*****g hot. She was engulfed in Eddy’s thoughts when suddenly she bumped into someone.
“Whoa, slow down, Cupcake?” she raised her head, as she heard the familiar nickname, a particular someone gave to her.
She stared at the dark eyes which felt so mysterious to her. When her eyes fell on his lips, she found him smirking. She really wished to wipe that smirk from his face.
“Looks like you had a wild night, Cupcake,” he commented with his usually smug face.
“None of your business,” she retorted and was about to leave when Eli grabbed her wrist and pulled her toward him. Veronica again got lost in his mysterious eyes. ‘What the hell is wrong with me,’ she groaned internally.
The sudden sound of the door opening caught her off guard. She pulled herself from Eli. And looked at her right.
“What are you two doing here,” the Queen asked them confusedly.
“Just talking,” Eli replied, glancing at Veronica with his usual smirk. “Allow my departure, her highness,” Eli left, giving her a cart nod and winked at Veronica.
“Veronica, right?” the Queen said, breaking the train of Veronica’s thought. “Come. I was waiting for you,” Veronica went inside, following her. Her room was as big as theirs— a king-sized bed, a closet around the corner, a dressing table with a lot of accessories.
Veronica roamed her eyes around the room and was so nervous in front of the Queen that she nearly missed Edwin’s voice which rang inside her head.
‘Hey, little fairy, don’t be nervous. Mom will love you. Just be yourself, little one. Love you...see you soon,’ Edwin’s voice calmed her nerves down. She smiled to herself and looked up to meet the intense gaze of the Queen.
“So...Veronica, aren’t you scared of my son?” she asked, catching Veronica off guard. She didn’t think Edwin’s mother, Michael Davina Roberts, would ask her such a question. She composed herself before answering.
“Why would I?”
“Cause Edwin is a vampire and aren’t humans afraid of Vampires?” Michael asked curiously, trying to observe Veronica’s reaction. Veronica’s smile took her by surprise.
“As per my knowledge, humans don’t know about the existence of vampires, let alone afraid of them,” Michael laughed at Veronica’s answer.
“Hmm...You do have a point. But aren’t humans afraid of the unknowns?”
“Sorry for my disrespectful behavior, but let me correct you. Humans aren’t scared, instead they are curious about the unknowns,” Veronica answered smartly.
“So, you are with Edwin because of your curiosity?” Michael’s questions became more and more intense.
“No, I am not. I am with Eddy because I love him. And let me tell you something before you come to another ridiculous conclusion. Edwin didn’t tell me his identity right after we met each other. He confessed when I was already in love with him,” Veronica answered a bit harshly. The question was too sensitive to her.
“You love him? Have you ever seen the monstrous side of him?” Michael asked again, going ahead of her limit.
“When I said, I love him, I meant everything about him, including his monstrous side. And I think you know it better than me— the concept of fated love – the one bloodgoddess chooses for her beloved children. If I were too fragile to accept the monster within Edwin, she wouldn’t have chosen me as his mate; she can’t be so cruel, can she?” Veronica replied and this time her voice was slightly louder than usual. She was beyond pissed. How could Michael say that Veronica didn’t love Edwin? She loved him so much that she could even give her life for him.
Veronica was shocked to see Michel smiling at her. She might as well kill her than smile at her. Why was she smiling then? These questions were roaming around Veronica’s mind.
“You are truly worthy of being a Queen— to rule the Kingdom with my son side by side,” Michael said, caressing her head softly. “I am sorry. I was just testing you,” Veronica felt relief somehow.
Talking with Michael almost felt as if she was talking to her mother. She missed her mom so much. Michael understood her feelings, observing her gloomy face, and tried her best to make her feel like home. Michael actually loved her, as Edwin said.
After spending time with Michael, Veronica bids goodbye to her and leaves to find her mate whom she missed the whole time. After completing the mating, it was almost impossible for her to stay away from Edwin. In the morning when she saw the mark Edwin left on her neck, she was mesmerized by the small circular mark. And when Edwin kissed her mark, small tingles erupted from the surface urging the desire for him.
A satisfying smile crept into her face, remembering their morning session. But her smile soon faded at the sight in front of her. A pain erupted from the core of her heart and it was hundreds of times worse than before. Fresh tears fell from her eyes as she stood there, watching her mate kiss the girl named Rebecca.
Not being able to stand the sight, she started running as fast as she could. She reached the forest but it still didn’t stop her from running. Her breath grew heavier. Her entire body started to burn as if someone had ignited the fire in her. At some point, her limbs went numb, making her fall on the ground. Pain enveloped her entire body and the pain was unbearable. Soon darkness clouded her vision before hearing the cracking sound of bones.

Edwin snapped out of his trance as he saw her running out of the castle. He pushed Rebecca with the last ounce of energy left within him and started running behind Veronica. He called her several times but she didn’t even look back.
Suddenly, his steps halted at the cracking sound. He couldn’t believe it in his own eyes. The incident that was happening in front of him was too shocking for his own good. His heart started racing too fast and his mind totally went blank...
