Edwin stared in the direction of his mate blankly. Where his mate was standing a moment ago, was replaced by a large pure white wolf-like creature. Unknowingly, his feet started to move forward. He sat beside her. His fingertips started to play with her soft white fur. He wasn’t aware that a subtle smile had crept onto his face. He stroked his fingers over her two adorable ears and down the length of her jaw and nose. His smile grew wider when her eyes opened and locked with his. Her forest green eyes were as lively as hers.
He said softly, “You are gorgeous,” and when he heard her purring, he chuckled slightly.
His grin abruptly disappeared as the realization hit him. She wasn’t a human.
“Y-Yo-You ar-are a lycan?” he spoke with a shudder.
Werewolves descended from the lycans. It has been over 800 years since the fabled lycans went extinct. Why then is his mate a Lycan?
‘Hi, I am Liana— Veronica’s lycan,’ her soft voice rang through their mind-link. He smiled which didn’t reach his eyes. ‘Aren’t you glad to see me?’ she asked him downheartedly. He shook his head negatively. He was unaware that his worry could upset her.
‘Not at all. I am so glad that I am lucky enough to meet you. It’s just...” he began to think about the consequences of her being a lycan. How would he gonna protect his little mate? How would he hide her true identity from the entire kingdom? ‘I am going to protect her no matter what; I am going to fight with the entire kingdom if I have to,’ he mused.
Edwin’s heart clenched in response to the loud exclamation, “Holy f*****g s**t,” which gripped him tightly with panic. He had never been more afraid in his entire life— afraid of losing his precious mate.
“Don’t tell me your mate is a legendary pure white lycan!” Edwin slowly raised his head towards the sound. There stood none other than his half-brother, Eli. ‘Why it has to be him of all the people,’ he muttered.
“Back off, Eli,” Edwin growled, making Eli’s smirk grow wider.
“Do you believe the time is right for you to say that? Why not first consider how to keep her safe?” Eli retorted.
“I will protect her,” Edwin stated empathetically.
“And how’s that?” Eli made fun of him, acting as if Edwin’s assertions were implausible.
“I will fight off the entire kingdom if I have to,” Eli scoffed, hearing Edwin. He must be crazy to say that.
“Don’t be ridiculous. Even if you are the crown prince, you can’t stand a chance against the king himself. You know very well how bloodthirsty he was for Lycan blood,” Eli’s words hit him like tons of bricks. He had constant tears streaming down his face.
Eli’s eyes softened, noticing tears in his childhood best friend’s eyes. He never saw him crying. He took care of everyone and was always the strong one.
“Tell her to shift first,” Eli suggested to him. Liana transformed back into her human form when Edwin carried out his instructions. Veronica’s unconscious body was lying in Edwin’s arms.
At that exact moment, they heard some noise and it grew louder. Sure enough, someone was coming towards them.
“There’s no time. Sorry, Edd,” before Edwin could understand why he was apologizing, Edwin felt as if the surroundings around them started to vibrate; he was trapped in a whirlpool and slowly torn apart; he would lose himself into nothingness. Everything was going to black out for what seemed to be forever. His senses no longer functions during that moment.
A moment later, he could feel himself again. But his head was spinning; the feeling of nausea twisted in his stomach. He would have thrown up if he wasn’t a vampire.
“What the hell was that?” Edwin barked out when he was finally able to talk.
“Teleport,” Eli shrugged, as if it didn’t affect him the slightest. Edwin finally noticed his surroundings. They weren’t in the forest. It’s a bedroom— pretty big but not as large as the Royal cabins. The room was simple and old-fashioned— the only color it held was black and white. The only furniture in this room was a small bed.
“The least you could do was just give a warning before teleporting,” without giving Edwin the answer, Eli went out of the room. “Bastard,” he muttered. Edwin laid Veronica on the bed. Giving her a peck on the forehead, he went out of the room as well.

Veronica woke up suddenly; her eyes took in every ray of light and, without a doubt, she knew she had slept too long. Her whole body was screaming in pain. She hadn’t the slightest memory of what happened in the forest. But she wasn’t in the forest anymore. She was in a small bed surrounded by black and white walls.
Veronica’s thought was interrupted by a familiar voice, “You woke up,” Eli. What was he doing here? “Let me help you,” he helped her sit up. “How are you feeling?” Eli asked her, adjusting himself on the chair beside the bed.
“Awful!” she muttered, leaning back, making a disgusting face. Eli couldn’t help but chuckle at her cute gesture. “Don’t laugh. My entire body was hurting like hell,” Eli raised both of his hands in surrender. “What the hell happened?”
“Edd will explain to you,” Eli replied. Veronica turned her head to the other side and said, “Don’t even utter his name.”
“Are you still mad at him?” Eli asked her with amusement-filled eyes. Veronica glared in his direction.
“Do you think I am mad at him? I might as well kill him!” Veronica exclaimed with fury and puffed, crossing her hand over her chest. She looked so adorable that Eli couldn’t take his eyes off her.
“Hey, Cupcake, do you believe,” Eli’s words made her frown. “…that Edd loves you,” he clarified. Did she believe? Now that she has thought about it— obviously she believes... No...She didn’t believe it—she knew Eddy loved her and could do anything for her. She gave Eli a nod.
“Then listen to his explanation,” Eli said, caressing her face. His hand felt warm on Veronica’s face. She stared at his mysterious eyes. Why were those eyes so attractive! He always smirked so she didn’t notice his smile before. He has a gorgeous smile. It involuntarily brought a smile to her face too.
“Umm...I am sending Edwin,” mumbling those words, he stormed out of the room. ‘Weird!’ Veronica’s trance broke abruptly. ‘What the hell was wrong with me!!’ she again started to think about Eli staring out of the window.

“What are you thinking?” Veronica gave Edwin a quick glance before returning to her window view. Right now, she found the tree rows more interesting. “I know I deserve it,” Edwin’s voice tightened her heart, and her stomach twisted. Still she didn’t look back— she just couldn’t.
“Immobilizing spell,” Veronica looked at Edwin when he paused for a second. She had a confused gaze on her face. “It’s what she used on me. I was powerless to restrain my own action. I am sorry, little fairy, I have let you down again,” At the last word his voice cracked, his head was downward, and his cheek was moistened. Veronica raised his chin up with her index finger as she gently wiped his tears away with a soft smile on her face. Edwin gave her a breathtaking smile.
‘Finally, I saw his mind-blowing smile,’ someone shirked in excitement. Veronica was startled and looked around for the source of the voice.
“Who said that?” Edwin frowned at Veronica’s question. ‘Am I the only one who is hearing things,’ she mused.
‘Hey, it’s me. Liana,’ she heard it again.
“Didn’t you hear the sound?”
“What sound?” Edwin asked her again.
“Don’t know. I am hearing a girl’s voice,” she exclaimed. “And who the hell is this Liana?” she yelled in frustration. Edwin stared at her for a second before bursting out with laughter.
“So you were talking about Liana,” he asked, chuckling. There was a glow in his eyes while talking about her. Veronica was getting jealous again. Noticing her change of expression, Edwin said seriously, “Little fairy, I need to tell you something. But before, promise me you won’t freak out,” he looked at her hopefully and she nodded.
Edwin sat on the bed facing Veronica and took both of her hands into his. He took a deep breath before starting. “I know it’s hard to believe, but sometimes life is unpredictable. We had to accept some things we didn’t want to... Little fairy, you aren’t... you aren’t a human,” Veronica gave him a look that said— ‘Are you kidding?’ Though Edwin’s face didn’t show he was in any mood for jokes.
“Do you remember what happened in the forest today?” Veronica shook her head at Edwin’s question. “You shifted to your lycan form. Maybe it was your first time shifting. That’s why it hurt. You are a shapeshifter, little one, a pure white lycan,” Edwin revealed.
“Okay. Let me conclude what you are saying. For the last 23 years, I have been living as a human and never came to realize my powers as a lycan, which species disappeared from the world 800 years ago! Is it even possible?” she shouted in frustration.
Yeah, it’s definitely hard to believe. It felt as if your entire life was a lie. You were living in a fake world and suddenly your world was crushed down when you came to learn the truth.
Edwin couldn’t help but embrace her in a tight hug as tears started to spill from her eyes. Edwin gently caressed her back, saying soothing words to her. Veronica pulled apart and asked with wet eyes, “Who is she?”
“Your lycan, Liana,” A smile crept on his face talking about her lycan.
“What does she look like?” Veronica asked curiously.
“You saw the werewolf before, right?” Veronica nodded. “Liana looks similar except for her height which nearly reached mine, her two cute, adorable ears, her soft pure white fur, and the mark on the back of her left side were beautiful. Her forest green eyes were so enchanting that I got lost in it,” Veronica was fussing in anger while Edwin was talking about Liana.
“What happened, little one,” Edwin asked concernedly when he noticed her glaring at him. Her face was all red.
“How dare you describe another woman in front of me with those sparkling eyes,” Veronica roared. Edwin stared at her for a moment, dumbfounded, before smiling widely.
“You can’t possibly be jealous of yourself, can you?” Edwin asked with amusement-filled eyes.
“I don’t care. Just go away!” she yelled, turning her head to the other side.
“You want me to go away, little one?” Edwin asked with a mischievous grin on his handsome face.
Edwin leaned down and placed his face on the crook of her neck. And started nuzzling it. Veronica couldn’t help but suppress a moan, biting her lower lips. Edwin smirked and climbed up on the bed. He started licking her mark and paused for a second to appreciate the mark he left on her. The mark changed a bit from a circular shape to a howling lycan and a bat surrounded by a moon. Edwin couldn’t help but smile. He started to kiss the mark, which made Veronica moan loudly.
Edwin bit her earlobe and trailed small kisses along her neck, cheek, and jawline. He started tugging and biting her lower lips. Veronica couldn’t stand his teasing anymore— she grabbed his neck and pressed her lips on his. Edwin smirked between her lips and started kissing her.
Veronica suddenly pulled back a little. Edwin tilted his head in confusion. “Aren’t lycans the enemy of vampires? So, do you hate me now, cause I am a lycan?” ‘This girl sure had some crazy thoughts.’ Edwin mused.
“Little one, when I said I love you, I meant all of you, including Liana. I don’t care if you are a human, vampire, or lycan, I just love you and only you,” he confessed, caressing her face.
“Who do you love more— me or Liana?” Veronica asked with a pout. Edwin chuckled loudly, embracing her in a hug and showering kisses all over her face.

Someone was watching Edwin and Veronica intently. He couldn’t help but feel jealous of their relationship. Suddenly, his heart started to burn in pain— the immense pain he couldn’t bear. Still, he had to undergo this pain for centuries.
Why was he always the one who had to endure everything? Why did Edwin always get whatever he wanted? Will he ever get what he wants?
