Confession

1632 Words
Jason took Eli with him, as they had a lot to catch up on. Edwin was still standing there, deep in thought; he flinched when Veronica touched him. Edwin pulled her toward him and buried his face in her neck. Veronica softly ran her fingers through his hair. “Did you believe he was guilty too?” Edwin stiffened at Veronica’s words. He pulled back and stared at the ground for a moment before taking a deep breath. He didn’t know how to start. He was helpless that day. He had to choose… he had to choose between his little brother, whom he adored the most, and his best friends, who had no one to rely on except him. “I didn’t. But I hadn’t any other choice,” Edwin answered, staring at the ground. He felt so ashamed of himself for not being there for his brother. “Why?” “Sam was so angry at Eli and Jace...he just lost his sister. They wouldn’t have anyone to grab on to if I left them alone,” Edwin confessed. “So, you left Eli behind?” Edwin flinched at her words. He didn’t want to abandon him. Eli was his best friend—his brother. He didn’t think Eli would be alone because he was a prince. But he never thought Eli would be so damaged inside. “Who do you give his responsibility to?” she asked him. Edwin abruptly lifted his gaze from the floor. Even if Edwin stopped talking to Eli, Veronica knew he wouldn’t leave his little brother alone. He must have someone keeping an eye on Eli secretly. This is how he is—always protects his loved ones with everything he has. He might look so rough and tough from the outside, but from the inside, he is a total softie. “Mom. My mom used to take care of him for me. But she never told me that he was so lonely. She never told me... he has buried so much pain within himself. If I knew, I wouldn’t have ever let him alone. I would have tried to fix everything between ourselves,” he confessed. “Eli won’t ever forgive me,” Edwin sadly uttered. “Definitely, he will,” Veronica assured him with a smile. “You are the best brother they could ever ask for,” she encouraged him, caressing his cheek and making him smile. Suddenly, Veronica’s smile faded. Edwin tilted his head in questioning. Seeing the concern in his eyes, she said, “I am just worried about Sam.” Edwin sighed and asked, “Do you trust your Unnie?” Veronica bobbed her head up and down. “Then don’t worry. Isabella will take good care of Sam,” Edwin answered, giving her an assuring smile. “Sam is with Unnie?” Edwin nodded in answer. “Right now, she is the only one who can calm him down and make him feel better. Just like you did for me,” he said. A wicked idea popped into Veronica’s head. She tiptoed and gave Edwin a peck on the lips. “Like this?” she tilted her head and asked him innocently. “No,” Edwin answered before cupping Veronica’s face and capturing her delicious lips in his. Their lips were molded into one another as if they were meant to be together. “Like this,” he added through their mind-link. Edwin started kissing Veronica senselessly as if there was no tomorrow, and Veronica was melting under his touch, losing herself in his world. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sam was beyond angry. His hazel eyes almost turned red. A tiny bit of humanity prevented him from going berserk. He needed to calm down before he did something he would regret. And the only person who could help him was his sweet mate, Bella. A loud gasp escaped from Isabella’s lips as she opened the door. Sam was standing there. His eyes were bloodshot red, and his hair was disheveled. He looks like a walking zombie. When she was about to ask him a question, Eli threw himself on her, burying his head in the crook of her neck. Isabella didn’t ask him anything; instead, she ran her fingers through his hair. She heard a muffled cry escape from his lips. The wet part of her t-shirt on her shoulder was her least concern. She was worried about Sam. Something big must have happened. She led him to the drawing-room, when he relaxed a little, sat him on the couch, and handed him a glass of water. Sam gulped down the contents, even if they didn’t satisfy his thirst. Isabella softly brushed her fingers through his hair as he put his head on her lap. He wrapped her waist with both hands and hid his face on her belly, sobbing silently. “Why? Why did my mom cheat on my dad? Why did she leave me? Why did she betray me?” Isabella heard him mumbling. She didn’t ask or say anything; she only listened. “Why did she kill Jenny? She was only a child. It’s because of her that I blamed Eli, my best friend. I hated him because of her. He spent his entire life alone. I even called him names from time to time. How am I gonna look in his eyes after what I have done to him?” Tears were flowing from Sam’s eyes the entire time. “If it’s someone’s fault that Jenny died, that’s me. And Eli, Jace, and Edd won’t ever forgive me for that.” Isabella listened to his mumbling silently, gently running her hands over his back. It was the first time he opened up to her. It was the first time she had seen him cry. He was a cheerful, cocky playboy, but she never thought he hid so much anguish inside of him. And somehow her chest started to burn in pain, as if she were experiencing everything with him. “It’s not your fault,” Isabella said, wiping his tears. “And I am sure if Eli thinks of you as his best friend, he will forgive you for sure. You just need to apologize sincerely,” she reassured him, giving him a small smile. “I won’t be able to face him,” he whimpered. “You will, and I will help you,” Isabella said, placing her lips on his forehead longer than usual. Sam felt a burden lifted from his chest. He smiles what seems like centuries later. He stared at Isabella’s sparkling dark eyes. She has become her life. And he couldn’t keep it secret from her. He jumped up from Isabella’s lap. “I need to confess something,” Sam said, before Isabella could respond to his fast movement. He was scared—scared of losing his precious mate, scared of her reaction. But he needed to be honest. He remembers Veronica’s words. ‘If she loves you, she will be with you regardless of your identity. Remember to be sincere.’ “I... I am... I am a vampire,” Sam uttered his stammered word, staring at the ground. Everything went dead silent for a moment before Isabella started laughing upon hearing Sam. She thought he was joking. Sam grimaced, looking at her. He knew she wouldn’t believe him. Who would, anyway? The existence of the supernatural is always hidden from the human world. “I am serious.” “About what? Vampires?” Isabella sighed, shaking her head. “Sam, I know you are sad, but...” she continued, but Sam spoke up. “I can prove that I am not a human,” Sam said firmly. He needed her to trust him. He can’t keep her in the dark forever, even if she doesn’t want to do anything with him after knowing the truth. “Then prove it,” she challenged him, crossing her hand over her chest. Sam raised his right hand and closed his eyes. His nails grew longer. With one of his nails, he cut his other arm. Fresh blood started to ooze from the cut. And within seconds, his deep cut was sealed as if there hadn’t been any wound, to begin with. He opened his eyes and looked up at Isabella’s shocked gaze. Isabella was staring at him with wide eyes. Sam sighed and told her everything about him being a vampire, her being his mate, and their mate bond. Isabella didn’t utter a word after Sam’s little show-off. She only stared at him. What else did he expect her to do? Revealing himself as a vampire in front of her was more than shocking enough, and he even confessed to her being his mate. Tears started to stream down his face. Maybe it was time; she was going to reject him. He was about to lose his mate forever. A soft palm wiped the tears from his face. He looked up at Isabella, shocked at her casual behavior. “You aren’t scared?” “You didn’t give me a reason to be scared; instead, you cooed at me and cuddled me in your arms when I was scared. You protected me from my father. “You are more humane than any human,” Isabella told him, soothing his burning heart. He breathed a sigh of relief that his mate wasn’t going anywhere. “Is Mr. Roberts also a vampire?” she asked a while later. Sam nodded. “Does Vicky know?” Sam nodded again. “Is she safe there?” “Don’t worry. She is our future queen. We will protect her with our lives. And Edd won’t let any single scratch on her,” Isabella smiled, satisfied that her sister was safe.
