Veronica POV A clapping sound made Eddy and I turn around. I was stunned for a second. A man, almost identical to Edwin, except for his dark eyes and dark black hair, standing there with a smirk on his handsome face. “You got a feisty mate there, brother! Are you sure she is a human? She has got enough strength to beat the strongest female vampire,” the guy snickered, stepping towards us. Eddy had a brother? But he didn’t tell me about him. “Stop right there, Eli,” Edwin barked at him. But he just smirked. “Won’t you introduce your mate to me?” Edwin didn’t answer him, only glared at him. “Fine! I will introduce myself. Hey, cupcake, I am Eli Willard Roberts— Edwin’s half-brother,” he said, stretching his hand toward me. But Edwin blocked it. “Leave,” Edwin uttered in a stern voice. “Okay. Okay. I am not snatching her from you, am I?” he joked again, smirking. “See you soon, cupcake. Bye-bye,” he left, leaving a brooding Edwin behind. And ‘Cupcake?’ Did he just give me a cringe nickname? I nagged Edwin’s arm to gain his attention. “Let’s go,” he led me to the room. I wonder if I should call it a room; it’s big enough to be an apartment—and beautiful. f**k that! It was not time to admire the room; instead, I turned to Edwin. “Care to explain?” I demanded an answer from him, crossing my arms over my chest. “It’s complicated,” he hesitated with his words. “Fine… I won’t ask you anything about it. But I don’t want to see this blank face of yours. I want to be aware of every emotion of yours. I want every expression in your eyes so that I can always sense what you are feeling. Get it?” I stated sternly. “Little one, you know... it’s not easy. I am sorry, but… I promise you can always sense how I am feeling once we complete mating,” he tried to explain. “Then when the hell will you complete this thing!” I snapped. I was so f*****g frustrated with his odd behavior. And, well, I felt a little edgy for the last few days. “Isn’t someone so eager?” he teased me again and started kissing me. ‘I missed your lips,’ he mind-linked me in between our kisses. Our lips tangled in sync, so I got lost for a moment. His hands were running up and down my curves. A knock on the door grabbed our attention. Why did everyone have to come in the middle of our make-out? After Edwin pronounced the word ‘come in’, a girl entered the room. A girl – skinny figure, pale-faced, appeared behind the door. She stopped feet away from us. “Greetings, crown prince, crown princess,” she greeted us. She didn’t raise her head the whole time. “What do you want?” Edwin asked in his same stony voice. I glared at him, but he just shrugged. “I am assigned by the queen to serve the crown princess,” she replied timidly. “Me? But I don’t need a maid,” I said. “Every Nobel lady in this castle has one maid. You should get used to it too,” Edwin said, placing his hand on my shoulder. Though I wanted to say no, I agreed to this only for Eddy. Another knock on the door gained our attention. Sam emerged behind the door with the same radiant smile he used to give. “I guess I didn’t interrupt,” he said with a smirk, eying the girl. “You could have interrupted,” Edwin groaned in annoyance. “My apology,” he bowed playfully, placing his hand on his chest. I giggled at his behavior. “What’s the matter?” Edwin asked. “The king wants to see you,” Sam replied, going into serious mode. “Right now?” Sam nodded. Edwin turned to me. “I have to go. I will be back soon. Be good. Don’t run around and stay out of trouble,” he said, as if I always run into trouble. As a matter of fact, I did, but not always. “I am not a trouble-maker,” I mumbled. Edwin sighed. “I wish I didn’t know better,” he joked. Then turn to the girl, “And you. If she gets hurt, even if a single bit of scratch on her, you know the consequences,” he warned her. Damn! That girl is already scared, and he scares her more. I bumped into his shoulder, telling him not to threaten her with my eyes. “Be safe,” he said, kissed my forehead and left with Sam, giving me his most charming smile, which I was dying for. “Did I just see him smiling?” the girl murmured behind me. I turned to her. “What did you say?” I asked to be sure I heard her right. “Nothing,” she shook her head vigorously, visibly shaking. “Forgive me, princess. It was my mistake. I am sorry,” she fell to her knees; she kept mumbling sorry and trembling uncontrollably. I stared at her, confused. She seemed as if she had a panic attack. Do vampires suffer from panic attacks too? Damn Vicky! It’s not a time for jokes. I carefully sat beside her and hugged her. She flinched at first, then relaxed. “Shush, It’s alright. Relax,” I murmured in her ears, caressing her head softly. “Don’t worry, I am not a vampire. I won’t bite you,” I tried to lighten up her mood when she relaxed. I helped her up from the ground and made her sit on the bed, but she stood up instantly. I stared at her confusedly. “I am sorry, my lady. But a servant can’t sit on their master’s bed,” I sighed exasperatedly. I really need to convince Edwin to change these damn rules. After a lot of convincing, she finally sat on the bed. “What’s your name?” she looked shocked when I asked her name. “Amaya Collins,” she replied softly. She was sweet. We talked for a while; she seemed comfortable now. She told me Edwin didn’t really smile; he always put on that rugged face, so she was shocked when she saw him smile. It’s odd to me too. The Edwin I knew and the one I saw in this castle were entirely different. After a while, I asked Amaya to show me around. And here I was, roaming around the castle while she filled me with details. “The king and queen live in the south wing of the castle. And the west wing is for the crown prince’s friends and other royal members. The Royal court is on the top floor,” “And the East wing?” “It’s-it’s for Prince Eli, princess,” I glared at her. “Sorry, Vicky,” she gave me a guilty smile. I smiled at her. Finally, I succeeded in convincing her to call me Vicky; at first, she hesitated, but when I said at least call me Vicky when we are alone, she agreed. At first, I thought she was shy and timid. But now she seemed she was full of life. She kept talking on and on, but suddenly her steps halted; she stood there frozen. I gazed in her direction, and my blood froze at sight in front of me.
