Veronica POV
Eddy and I were waiting outside my apartment for Sam and Jace. I was so excited and nervous as well. Eddy was going to take me to the Vampire kingdom, the place where he was born and grew up. I wasn't nervous because the place was full of vampires; nervous cause I wondered whether they liked me or not as their queen.
Well, I wasn't sure I was ready to be a queen, but if the question was, 'Was I ready to be with Edwin William Roberts?' it's a 'Yes.' And to lead a kingdom alongside Eddy, I sure wasn't afraid of it.
"What are you thinking?" my trance broke at his words. I shook my head with a smile. "Don't worry. Everyone will love you just like Sam and Jace," he consoled me with his most assuring smile.
"I know," I mouthed. "But are you sure you don't need to feed?" I asked, trying to change the topic.
"Don't worry. I will be fine," he again gave me the same answer he had been giving me for the past two weeks. It's nearly two weeks since Sam told me about their way of living. I asked Edwin to drink my blood, but he refused. According to him, 'I will, but after completing the mating process.'
'Then complete the mating process,' I argued.
'Nah. You are special, and I want it to be special for you,' he said, kissing me, making me forget what I was arguing about. He always did that. Whenever he was about to lose a conversation, he started teasing me, kissing me senselessly. And his kiss was so magical that I forgot everything else.
"Why don't you just bite me!" I mumbled grumpily, only to earn a chuckle from him. I glared at him. "I swear, if you collapse on me again, I will cut myself and feed you my blood," I stated sternly. I know…I know. I was shameless, but he was too stubborn to listen to me. He tightened his grip on my waist, swung me around, and pressed his lips on mine, and as I was saying, I forgot what I was arguing about.
A car honk interrupted our moment and made Edwin groan in annoyance. "Did we interrupt something?" Sam mocked, getting out of the car.
"Definitely you did," Edwin growled at them.
"JACE!!" I screamed in excitement and ran into Jace's arms, earning a laugh from him.
"I missed you too, kiddo," he whispered in my ears. We pulled back as we heard someone clearing his throat. And it's none other than my jealous mate. He pulled me to him and nuzzled the crook of my neck, inhaling deeply.
"Don't hug other men from now on," he stated, pushing me inside the car.
"What about my hug?" Sam whined from behind.
"Go. Hug your mate!" Edwin barked out.
'Why are you so jealous? They are more like a brother to me, don't you know?' I mind-linked him when we settled inside the black SUV, Jace's new fantasy.
'Still, I am jealous,' he mumbled and pouted like a kid. He looked so cute that I couldn't stop myself from kissing him.
"Stop it, guys. I have already started to miss my mate!" Sam whined, seeing us kissing.
"Me too," Jace agreed with him.
"You don't have a mate!" Sam and Edwin both snarled at Jace. Poor guy!
"I know. I don't need you guys to remind me every single time!" Jace muttered.
"Don't worry, bro. I will find a mate for you," I assured Jace, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"Really!" he shrieked in excitement, and I nodded.
"If you are finished, shall we move?" Edwin asked in a bored tone.
"Fine! Fine!" Jace mumbled and started driving. Eddy pulled me to his lap, wrapped his arms around my stomach, and buried his head on my shoulder. He always did this when he was stressed or tensed about something.
'Is everything alright?' I asked through our mind-link.
'Yeah. Just wanted to rest,' he said, drawing me closer to him. 'I love you,' he added, kissing my shoulder. Bloody i***t! Here I was, trying to suppress my moan, and he chuckled at my miserable state.
-----------
Jace has been driving for hours. Fifteen minutes ago, Sam informed us we had already entered the vampire kingdom. The closer we get, the faster my heartbeat increases. The only thing keeping me calm was Edwin's grip on mine.
I could see the view outside through the tinted window. The SUV was running faster between the queues of trees. The place was similar to any other ordinary place... Not scary but beautiful. I fell in love with the area with just one glance.
Jace stopped the car in a driveway, waiting for the guards to open the gate. The gate was so huge that it might need 5 or 6 well-built humans to open it. Jace started driving through the driveway after a guard opened the gate for us without sweating.
I was awestruck looking at the gigantic palace in front of which Jace stopped the car. It was built with white and black marble stones, high enough to reach the clouds. Seems that it emerged from one of Disney's movies.
I was so engulfed in admiring the castle that I didn't notice the crowd gathered around us. Edwin placed his secured hand around my waist.
"Shall we go?" a stern voice reached my ear. I didn't recognize it at first. I looked up at the source of the voice. Edwin! His face… his eyes were the same as his voice – emotionless, blank. I glanced at Sam and Jace. They mirrored the same expression. Why did their expression change the moment they got out of the car?
"I am going to inform the king," Sam stated with the same stony voice Edwin used, not his usual cheesy and funny tone. Edwin gave him a curt nod.
"I am going to take care of your luggage," Jace stated, earning a nod from Edwin. f**k! They are acting like robots.
Before I could think or ask anything, Edwin led me towards the entrance, where a woman was standing with a few of her maids. She had dark blue eyes and natural red lips – her hair was tied in a messy bun. Her elegant gown was screaming royalty. She looks like a queen – born to be a queen.
"Mother," Edwin voiced, a soft tint in his voice, which he hid behind his blank mask. So, she was his mother. She looks younger, though. Well, as I said before, don't judge by their looks!
"Son, it's been a long time," she said softly. Edwin nodded.
"My mate, Veronica Smith," she gazed at me. For the first time, I felt scared after entering the kingdom under her gaze. She glances me up and down.
"She is a human!" she commented sternly. "Anyway – Welcome," her voice didn't sound so welcoming.
"Thank you, Your Highness," for the first time, I uttered something after I got out of the car. She gave me a curt nod.
"Take rest. We will meet again," she left, saying the words.
Damn it! She didn't like me. Somehow, I felt like I didn't belong here. Everything felt so unfamiliar – even Eddy, Sam, and Jace also felt foreign to me. I felt tears start to burn my eyes, but it disappeared as Eddy tightened his grip on mine. I looked up at him. His face was still expressionless.
'She likes you. In fact, she will love you,' he mind-linked me. His voice was soft with full of love and adoration.
'Really! Then, now explain your change of expression!' I demand.
'I will. Let's go to our room first,' he said, leading me towards the corridor.
'Alright. But…’
"Edwin!" a high-pitched voice cut me off, and what the hell! A slim, tall burnet came out of nowhere and hugged Eddy. "Baby, I missed you!" baby! How dare she! Did she hug MY mate in front of me? I was fuming in anger. I have already had enough today!
"Don't touch him!" I barked out. She backed off a little and stared at me.
"Who do you think you are to tell me that!" she jeered, stepping towards me.
"Rebeca, she is my mate. Your future queen. Respect her," Edwin growled at her. She seemed shocked at Edwin's words.
"How can a mere human be your mate? I am your mate! Your father fixed our mating ceremony," she yelled.
"Mind your language! As far as I know, I didn't agree to this arrangement," Edwin stated.
"But, baby…" she touched Edwin again. And this time, it's enough for me to snap. I grabbed her wrist, pulled her away from Edwin, swung her arms to her back, and twisted them. She screamed in pain. I kicked her leg, making her fall to her knees.
"Told you. Don't. Touch. What's. Mine!" I whispered in her ear and pushed her to the ground. She lay there half unconsciously. A clapping sound echoed through the corridor.
