Isabella POV
Vicky and I spend almost half a day shopping. Then we went to a spa. According to Vicky, you should doll yourself up once in a while. It makes you love yourself, which is the most significant element of living. And now, I am enjoying it to the fullest, forgetting my hellish life.
“So... what’s up with you and Sam?” Vicky asked, putting her chin on her arms and facing me. Curiosity was dancing in her eyes. I sighed.
“Nothing,” I mumbled. How could there be anything between him and me? He is a playboy, and I don’t wanna be his plaything. I wouldn’t be able to bear the consequences. I am not that strong.
“Don’t deny! I saw how comfortable you were in his arms,” she exaggerated. “Unnie, you should let the past go. Don’t let it ruin your present and future,” she said concernedly.
The past. My horrible past. I can’t forget it even though I try. The memory of that night still makes me tremble. I didn’t realize I was shaking, breathing heavily until I felt Vicky rubbing my back, holding me tight.
“It’s alright. I am here. I won’t let anyone harm you,” she comforted me smilingly and kissed my forehead. “Let him heal you, unnie. He isn’t a bad guy; give him a chance,” she added.
“How do you know he isn’t?” I snickered.
“Cause he is Eddy’s best friend. He wouldn’t be his friend if he were a bad guy,” she exclaimed with so much confidence. I couldn’t help but laugh.
“How much do you trust Mr. Roberts?”
“With my life,” she simply answered without hesitation.
“You have become cheesy,” I commented, bumping her shoulder.
“Eddy’s love makes me cheesy,” she gushed dreamingly. She looked happy. She deserves happiness.
“Eww, you are gross,” I uttered, and we both started laughing.
--------------
Sam and Edwin were waiting for us outside my apartment. Vicky ran to Edwin’s arms as soon as she saw him. Edwin engulfed her in a warm embrace as well. Doesn’t it feel like home where someone waits for you to come back and welcome you with a warm hug? Maybe I will never get that feeling.
“Welcome home,” I snapped my head toward the voice. It’s him. The radiant smile he gave me was priceless. I got lost in his eyes until Vicky called me.
“We are leaving,” Vicky said and whispered something in Sam’s ear. They left after bidding goodbye.
“Why are you still here?” I asked Sam. He shrugged, going inside. “Why are you going inside?”
“To have dinner with you,” he answered, as if it were the most obvious matter.
“I have done mine,” I stated, expecting him to leave.
“But I haven’t.”
“You can have it in your place,” I muttered.
“I have cooked already. If I hadn’t finished it, it would be such a waste,” he argued. I sighed. It’s completely useless to argue with him.
I followed him inside. He warmed up the dishes and put a plate in front of me, gesturing for me to eat.
“I said I had already done my dinner,” I snapped at him. Why won’t he understand? I want him to leave me alone!
“You can accompany me. It’s your apartment, after all. So you are the host,” he exaggerated.
“Why are you doing this?” I asked him, trying to stay calm.
“Doing what?” he was still trying to act clueless.
“Stop persuading me. I won’t fall into your trap,” I told him directly. He sighed.
“It’s not a trap. Let me get this straight. My feelings for you are sincere. I... I don’t know what has happened in your past for you to hate every man. But give me an opportunity. I promise I won’t hurt you,” he said. I snickered at him.
“Yeah...You don’t know what happened. What happened...was enough...for me...to...commit...s...suicide attempt. Not once...but...but t-twice,” I mumbled. My whole body was trembling. If I weren’t sitting, my leg would have given up.
I was drenched in sweat and had trouble breathing. I tried to speak, but it seemed as though the words were trapped in my throat. My body shuts down every time I think of that evening. A sudden warmth passed through my body. When I opened my eyes, I found him carrying me toward the bedroom.
Does he know magic? His touch calms me. I can breathe normally now.
“Don’t you want to know what happened?” I asked him.
“Doesn’t matter,” he shrugged. I snickered.
“You won’t want me after knowing the truth,” I whispered.
“Silly! I will always want you,” he replied softly. I searched into his eyes and found nothing but sincerity. His words fluttered my heart, which I had been guarding for years.
I knew he would leave after knowing the truth. He will be disgusted, just like me. I didn’t know if what I was doing was right or wrong, but at least he would leave me alone after that.
....7 years back....
“Hey, Unnie! What’s up!” a smile crept on Isabella’s face as Vicky’s voice rang over the phone.
“I’m good. How about you?”
“Cool! Are you going to hike for school next week?” Vicky asked excitedly.
“Sorry, Vicky. But you know I have to attend the part-time job at the weekend,” Isabella replied sadly.
“Come on, Unnie. It’s the only...” Vicky was going to whine when Isabella stopped her.
“Vicky, someone is at the door. Let me check first,” Isabella went to check on the door, but she didn’t know what was waiting for her outside.
Someone pressed something on her face as soon as she opened the door. She didn’t get any time to react before darkness clouded her vision.
------------
Isabella discovered herself bound to a chair when she awoke. She began to wriggle, attempting to free her strapped hands and legs. But it didn’t work; all it did was s***h through her skin, dripping blood from her delicate skin. She attempted to scream, but only a muffled sound came out.
While a wave of ominous laughter rippled across the room, she stopped struggling. One of the men, who Isabella recognized as one of the men his father had been arguing with the day before, commented, “See, the chick has already woken up.”
Another man went to her and removed the binding of her mouth, allowing her to speak. “Who are you? What do you want from me?” Isabella asked with her trembling voice, trying her best not to show them the fear that had been forming within her. Another laughter echoed through the room.
“Didn’t your father tell you that he sold you to us? Now we can do whatever we want with you. You are quite a temptation,” the other man replied, licking his lips with dark eyes. Isabella’s blood froze upon hearing him. It can’t be true. How could her father do this to her?
“Please, leave me. I beg you. Please…” she voiced. But the beasts in front of her weren’t going to listen to her plead.
One of them untangled her hands and leg. She thought they might not harm her; they might let her go. How naïve of her! She was so clueless that she didn’t know they had another plan. They pinned her down to the ground. One held her hands, and another pressed her legs to the floor. The other man started to undress her. She screamed out of her lungs. But no one heard her; no one came to rescue her. The man unbuttons himself and throws himself at her like a beast. She squirmed, screamed, and struggled to let him off her. But it was useless.
Her screaming started to muffle, tears flowing down her cheek silently as the other guys took turns to satisfy their hunger. When they finished, they left her nude, lifeless body on the ground.
-----------
When Isabella didn’t answer the phone, Vicky got worried. She had a feeling something wasn’t right. She called the police. By the time they found Isabella, it was too late. Vicky found her lying lifelessly on the ground.
Isabella was taken to the hospital. The beasts tortured her before they r***d her. She had broken ribs and bruises everywhere on her body. Besides the physical injury, her mental state was more damaged. She was emotionally devastated. She didn’t speak for months. She even tried to commit suicide. But Vicky stopped her. She didn’t leave her, not even a single moment.
The first time she spoke after the incident was, “Vicky. I don’t want to stay here. It always reminds me of that night. Please, help me…”
“Okay. I will help you, but you need to promise me something. Wherever you are, you have to be happy. You shouldn’t hurt yourself. You have to take care of yourself. You won’t give up on a fight. Can you promise me that?” Isabella nodded as tears flowed down her face. She can do that. She had to, for Vicky, her sister, who saved her, taught her to be strong.
Present time...
I thought I would have been terrified after reliving my horrifying past, but I felt nothing. Nothing but ease. I felt Sam’s arms tighten around me; they were shaking. I looked up at him. His eyes were closed; he seemed angry. He took a few deep breaths as I touched his face.
“I am sorry. I am sorry; I shouldn’t have let him go. I should have tortured him as he did to you. I should have made him suffer,” he spoke, slowly opening his eyes. “I swear I will kill him if I ever meet him again. I will kill those bastards whoever lay a finger on you,” he added with so much determination that it frightened me.
“Aren’t you disgusted by me?” I asked shockingly. Why wasn’t he angry at me? He should have left after hearing about my dark past.
“Why should I?” his question stunned me.
“Cause I am tainted. I am used, dirty, rapped…” he cut me off by placing his fingers on my lips.
“You are the purest, strongest woman I have ever seen. To me, you are perfect, flawless, and beautiful. I won’t ever let anyone hurt you. I will protect you with my life,” his words were nothing but sincere. His eyes showed that.
“Why?”
“Cause you are my Bella. My sweet Bella,” his simple words fluttered through my heart. His soft touch gave me tingles. He planted a kiss on my forehead, which grew the desire for him within me. Why? Why does this man have to be so gentle, so perfect?
Was Vicky right? Should I give him a chance? Will he show me the happiness I deserve? Will he be able to heal me? With the questions in my mind, I let myself rest in his protective arms.
