Fear

1938 Words
Samuel POV I envied Edwin and Veronica as I watched them. Though I didn’t want a mate before, the moment my eyes fell upon Isabella, my heart changed its decision without notifying me. I was instantly moved by her smile, her anger, and her stubbornness. I haven’t seen her all day, and it’s killing me now, especially after my bloody best friend’s public display of affection for his mate. I didn’t think relationships existed, much less that they were fated. I have only witnessed toxic relationships that were predestined. Consequently, I was afraid of having one when I met Isabella. However, seeing Edd and Vicky and their love for one another dispelled my doubts. Bella is the only one I desire right now. My sweet, feisty mate, Bella. I had a nagging feeling of going to see her right then. I decided to listen to my heart instead of arguing with my intellect. When I got close to her flat, I observed that her door was open. I entered without waiting around. My eyes landed on the scenario in front of me; all I could see was blood red. Blood. I Needed Blood... Isabella POV Thank God, that sucker didn’t bug me all day, though I did miss him. ‘Augh... Isabella! What are you thinking? Have you gone crazy? You missed that bloody womanizer!’ my subconscious mind scolded me. I must have gone crazy. I shook my head in distaste and opened my door only to discover it was already open. Did any thief break into my apartment? I entered inside cautiously with pepper spray in my hand... Ready to strike whoever broke into my house. Across the room, a strong, harsh voice boomed out, “Look who we have here.” The voice made me stop walking, and I felt a shudder run through my body. “What are you doing here?” I barked at him, trying to stay calm. He is the reason... he is the reason I have suffered—the reason behind my worst nightmare. My breathing started to grow heavy, and my hands began to shake. No, no, no...not now. I can’t show my fear in front of him. “Oh... Dear Isa, aren’t you happy to see your father?” his sinister voice rang again. ‘Don’t freak out. Try to stay calm. He can’t hurt you,’ I reminded myself again and again. But it’s not working. He laughed wickedly, seeing me trembling. Why am I so pathetic? “Father!” I scoffed. “Get out of my apartment right now!” I yelled with a trembling voice. His laughter dies. He stood up from the couch and stepped towards me. “Enough of jokes. You are coming with me. I have rotten in jail for the f*****g five years because of you, b***h. I have been looking for you for the past two years to make you realize what you have done. Now you are going to pay,” his words made my blood freeze. This voice means business. He grabbed my wrist and started dragging me toward the door. No, I won’t go with him. He will torture me again. I won’t let him do that. “Leave me! I am not going with you. Leave me!” I struggled to free myself from his grasp, but he didn’t budge. Tears clouded my eyes and blurred my vision. I struggled with my breathing. And then I felt his hand free mine. A strong arm around my waist kept me steady; I blinked away the tears. When my vision cleared, I saw his handsome face inches away from mine. His lips were moving as if telling me something which I couldn’t hear. My eyes started to blur again, and darkness clouded my vision, my consciousness drifting away from me, only a bubble of warmth spreading through my whole body, giving me a sense of safety. ------ The mixed scent of wood and fresh rainfall hit my nostrils, and I felt a pair of muscular arms enveloping me protectively. I slowly opened my eyes. My eyes met with a hard, muscular chest where my hands lay. I raised my chin to meet his handsome face. I didn’t realize how gorgeous he was until now. “Good morning, Bella,” his hoarse voice broke my trance. f**k, Isabella, you were gawking at him! I untangled myself from him and sat up, regretting instantly missing his touch. How am I ending up in his arms? Last night’s incident flashed through my mind. I started to tremble again, remembering the moment. “Bella, are you okay? You are sweating and shaking,” his concern was evident in his voice. “I wanna stay alone,” I stated, ignoring that his voice and touch calmed me. I even think his mere presence is enough to comfort me. But I need to be alone. He retracted his hand from mine but didn’t move. “Please,” he still didn’t move. “I won’t leave you alone,” he stated. I threw him a glare, but he remained unfazed. “Go outside the room. I will call you if I need something. Please,” I pleaded. He hesitated, but this time he got out of bed and sat on the couch, but didn’t leave. f*****g asshole! Sighing, I picked up my phone and dialed the only number I had on my emergency contact. The only person who was there with me every thick and thin. Who has saved me from my cruel father...who saved me from myself. “He came last night,” I whimpered as she received the call. “I am coming,” she answered without questioning. She knew...who I was afraid of, my biggest fear, my secret... Flashback... I was standing on the roof’s edge— conflicting with my head whether to jump or not. I was tired of this world, of being beaten every day by my alcoholic father, and of this f*****g school where everyone hated me. “Are you calculating the height of the building? Can you measure it by only staring down,” I snapped my head toward the direction of the voice. “None of your business. Go away,” I spat. “I can go away. But you will regret it,” I scoffed. It’s better than having a miserable life. “Think about it. What will happen if you die? People will talk about you for 2 or 3 days, then they will forget about you. That’s how it works,” she shrugged. I don’t need anyone to remember me either. “It’s better this way,” I answered, closing my eyes. “I have a better way,” I looked at her as if she was an alien. “You can jump after listening,” she added, extending her hands towards me. I took it hesitantly and stepped down from the edge. She gestured for me to sit on the ground beside her; I did as she said. “You can tell me, and I will listen,” she said, wanting to listen to my story. Then what? She will tell others! “So that you can sell them to others?” I mocked. “As I said, you could jump later if I did that. You are dying anyway. So what if they knew? They will make up a story and gossip about your life eventually. Isn’t it better that they talk about the real-life story?” she shrugged as if she didn’t care about the world. I glared at her. She sighed and said, “Trust me, this once.” I didn’t know if I was doing right or wrong, but I eventually told her; about my pathetic life, my cruel father, and the bullying. She hugged me and ran her hand over my back as I sobbed on her shoulder. This was the first time someone hugged me after my mom soothed me, telling me it would be alright. She smiled at me after I pulled back. “No one will bully you from now on. Just tell them you are Vicky’s Unnie. They will leave you alone,” she said, wiping my tears. “Why? Are you some kind of goon?” I asked curiously. “Nah. I have this kind of reputation,” she replied with a grin, dramatically throwing her arms in the air. I chuckled for the first time in years. “And about your father...do you know how to kick?” she asked, raising her brow. A sly grin on her face. “Kick on his c**k whenever he raises his hands on you,” she suggested wickedly. “Eww... You are gross,” I pushed her, making a disgusting face. Who says such vulgar words so frankly? “But you are laughing,” she chuckled. We both burst out of laughter. Present time... Vicky saved me that day. But she couldn’t protect me from my misfortune. Remembering the darkest night of my life made my heart race. Panic flowed through me. A wave of nausea and dizziness hit me. Suddenly, I felt a warm hand on my shoulder. Sam. His touch has magic. He picked me up and adjusted me on his lap, cradling me. I relaxed instantly. He didn’t say anything, only held me close, rubbing his hands on my back, which I am thankful for. “Is she alright?” I heard Vicky’s voice, her hands caressing my head. “Stopped crying a while ago,” Sam replied, still holding me protectively. “I think we need a girl’s talk. Can you go outside, Sam? Eddy is there. Go and chat with him,” Vicky said. Sam put me down gently. “Call me if she needs anything,” he said and went outside, not before placing a kiss on top of my head. “So? On his lap, huh?” Vicky teased, slightly bumping my shoulder. “Shut up,” I muttered. “Want a girl’s day out?” she offered with a grin. She knew I was up for it. After I got ready, we both went outside the room. Sam and Edwin were in the kitchen. I stared at Sam. He looked so dashing, wearing that apron. He was a perfect definition of a Greek God. Feeling my gaze on him, he lifted his head and winked at me as our eyes met. I averted my gaze. “Where are you going?” Edwin asked, putting a sandwich on the plate. “Girls’ day out,” Vicky replied. “NO!” the boys shouted in unison. I didn’t realize how but Edwin was standing in front of Vicky in a blink. “You said you wouldn’t go out of my sight,” Edwin said, cupping her face. Damn, their PDA! “I will be okay. And if you need me, you know what to do,” she said, caressing his face and giving a peck on his lips. “Fine!” Edwin gave up with a sigh. I didn’t realize Sam had approached me until he spoke up. “If you are in danger, call me. I will be there within the moment,” his words fluttered my heart. But when he put his lips on my forehead, my heart skipped a beat. Is it even possible for a man to be this gentle? We finished our breakfast, chatting. Well...mainly Edwin and Veronica speaking. Sam and I were silent the whole time. But the breakfast was delicious. These guys have talent. After our breakfast, Vicky and I left for our outing.
