SEAN
I was still furious.
We had barely made it into our next class before I turned towards Hayden, who was sitting beside me in our usual seats at the back of the room.
“Can you believe the nerve of that little b***h?”
Hayden snorted.
“I know. I don’t know how Carla can stand being around her.”
He leaned back in his chair, shaking his head.
“She acts like she’s better than everyone else. Walking around with that holier-than-thou attitude, talking to us like we’re beneath her.”
I smirked.
“She needs to learn her place.”
“She’s a useless Omega,” Hayden muttered. “Someone should teach her that titles and family names don’t matter here.”
“Oh, we will.”
I was still thinking about Sienna’s words when an idea suddenly occurred to me.
I turned towards Hayden.
“Hey.”
“What?”
“What do you think your dad would say if he knew what she just said?”
Hayden frowned.
“What did she say?”
“That the pack is a joke.”
His eyes widened slightly.
“She actually said that?”
“Straight to our faces.”
A slow grin spread across my face.
“Why don’t we tell him?”
Hayden’s grin matched mine.
“Why don’t we?”
I pushed my chair back.
“Come on.”
He stood.
I stared at him.
“Now?”
He looked at me as though I’d just asked the stupidest question imaginable.
“Would you rather sit here?”
I glanced towards the teacher, who hadn’t even noticed we were leaving.
“Nope.”
We grabbed our books and walked out.
Not surprisingly, nobody stopped us.
That was one of the things I loved about being the Beta’s son.
People didn’t question me.
They didn’t question Hayden either.
We could pretty much do whatever we wanted.
And right now, we had somewhere much more interesting to be.
We dumped our books in our lockers and headed back to Hayden’s house.
The Alpha’s house was easily one of the best homes in the entire pack.
It was a huge two-storey brick house with a double garage, massive windows and a covered carport beneath an upstairs balcony enclosed by floor-to-ceiling glass.
I had always been jealous of Hayden for living there.
My parents and I lived in a suite inside the pack house.
It wasn’t terrible.
But it wasn’t the Alpha’s house.
Hayden opened the front door and we walked inside.
We crossed the foyer and headed upstairs.
We found his father sitting in the kitchen, halfway through an enormous sandwich.
The moment he saw us, his expression changed.
“Why aren’t you boys at school?”
Hayden stepped forward.
“We need to talk to you.”
His father’s eyebrows drew together.
“About what?”
“Sienna.”
That got his attention.
“The girl who lives in the pack house with her mother,” Hayden added.
“I know who Sienna is.”
His father put his sandwich down.
“What about her?”
I couldn’t help myself.
“She said this pack is a joke.”
The Alpha stared at me.
“She said what?”
Hayden nodded.
“She said the pack is a joke.”
“When?”
“At school,” I said quickly. “Not even fifteen minutes ago.”
The Alpha’s expression hardened.
“What exactly happened?”
I shrugged.
“She was mouthing off. Calling us pathetic. Saying the pack would be a joke when you and the Beta weren’t in charge anymore.”
I deliberately left out a few details.
Like the fact that Hayden had hit her.
Like the fact that we had been provoking her.
Like the fact that she had been surrounded by students because of everything we’d been saying about her.
None of that mattered.
I wanted her punished.
And I wanted to watch it happen.
The Alpha slowly stood.
“I think Sienna and I need to have a conversation.”
Hayden and I immediately followed him.
He stopped.
“Where do you two think you’re going?”
“With you,” Hayden replied.
“No.”
His voice was firm.
“You’re staying here.”
“But—”
“I said stay here.”
He walked away.
We watched as he disappeared down the stairs.
A few moments later, the front door slammed shut.
Hayden turned towards me.
“Well…”
I laughed.
“That didn’t go exactly as planned.”
“No.”
“I was hoping we’d get to see your dad tear strips off her.”
Hayden opened the refrigerator.
“He still might.”
He grabbed two cans of cola and tossed one to me.
“He could decide to punish her publicly.”
I caught the can.
My grin widened.
“Now that would be worth seeing.”
Hayden leaned against the kitchen counter.
“Imagine it.”
I knew exactly what he meant.
Sienna standing in front of the entire pack.
Humiliated.
Finally being forced to learn her place.
“She’d be screaming,” I said.
Hayden laughed.
“And she’d deserve every second of it.”
I laughed with him.
Neither of us gave a damn that she was twelve.
She had challenged us.
And nobody challenged us.
“Come on,” Hayden said, heading towards the stairs. “Let’s play Call of Duty while we wait.”
I followed him.
We had no idea what was about to happen.
But I couldn’t wait to see the look on Sienna’s face when she found out she’d messed with the wrong people.

SIENNA
I made it home without Sara seeing me.
Thankfully.
I slipped through the pack house as quietly as possible, keeping my head down and hoping nobody would stop me.
The last thing I wanted was questions.
Especially from Sara.
She cared about me.
I knew that.
But she also believed strongly in education, responsibility and following the rules.
And I had just walked out of school.
I wasn’t sure what she would say if she knew why.
Would she believe me?
Would she understand?
Or would she think I’d somehow caused all of this?
I didn’t want to find out.
Not today.
I made it into our suite and hurried straight to my bedroom.
Once inside, I locked the door.
Then I collapsed onto my bed.
Silence.
Finally.
No laughter.
No whispers.
No cruel voices.
No footsteps following me through the corridors.
Just silence.
I closed my eyes.
Every part of my body hurt.
My wrist throbbed.
My ribs ached.
My back felt like it had been hit by a truck.
And my cheek still burned where Hayden had struck me.
But none of that hurt as much as the anger inside me.
I was angry at Sean.
Angry at Hayden.
Angry at every student who had laughed.
Angry at every teacher who had watched and done nothing.
But most of all, I was angry at the Goddess.
Why had this happened to me?
Why had I lost everything?
My home.
My family.
My pack.
My life.
I had been brought here because there was nowhere else for me to go.
And instead of finding somewhere safe, I’d found another place where I didn’t belong.
I squeezed my eyes shut.
I couldn’t understand how people could be so easily manipulated.
Sean said something, and everyone believed him.
No questions.
No proof.
Nothing.
They just believed him because of who his father was.
And Hayden was even worse.
He was supposed to become the next Alpha.
A leader.
Someone responsible for protecting the people in his pack.
Yet he’d just hit a twelve-year-old girl because she wouldn’t bow her head and accept his abuse.
What kind of Alpha would he become?
The thought made my stomach turn.
I rolled onto my side and stared at the wall.
I knew Sara was going to be furious when she discovered I’d skipped school.
She’d probably give me a lecture about education and responsibility.
Normally, I’d have listened.
Normally, I’d have cared.
But right now?
I couldn’t bring myself to care about anything.
I just wanted this day to end.
I wanted to sleep.
I wanted to wake up and discover the last three weeks had been a nightmare.
I wanted my parents.
I wanted my home.
I wanted my old life back.
I didn’t know that while I lay there wishing for my life to return to normal, someone else was already making plans that would destroy whatever sense of safety I had left.
If I had known what was coming…
I never would have closed my eyes.
Because this wasn’t the worst day of my life.
Not even close.
It was only the beginning.
