CHAPTER TWO : NARROW ESCAPE

1149 Words
DAVINA POV My head keeps drawing a blank anytime I try to recall the memories before the incident happened. Was I really responsible for killing my father-in-law? Why can't I remember the exact moment it happened? I remembered the night before the incident happened.Asher was talking to me about dismissing one of the council members who hadn’t proved himself useful before kissing my forehead and going to sleep. How did things get so bad in just a little time ? So many unanswered questions from my side,I feel more confused than ever,I tried to adjust my body since my limbs were killing me but it was a futile effort, the cage was too little to make any adjustments,I had been stuck in the same position for more than a day,my wolf let out a small groan of pain and I felt the urge to pat her fur in comfort, she must be in great pain and discomfort. I needed a stretch, maybe Cyrus would let me out for a minute if I tried. “Cyrus” my voice came out as a whisper,I was so tired and hungry yet in discomfort. “Cyrus”,I tried a little harder to make my voice bolder and Cyrus, who was by the door, came towards my cell. “I feel incredibly bad putting you in this position, but if you could just let me out for a minute, so I can stretch a bit,my limbs are killing me” Cyrus looked at me pitifully with wary eyes.I could tell he was contemplating his options.I was once his Luna after all. “He would kill me if he finds out I let you out of the cage”. “It would just be for a minute,I promise” Cyrus took out the bunch of keys, sliding each into the lock until he found the perfect fit and unlocked the cage,he tried to help me up but the chains restrained me from being able to stand completely so I was left on my knees but it was better than being cooped up in a cage. “Thanks Cyrus”,I said and saw Cyrus smile a little, the type of smile that brings comfort to someone and I felt bad for putting him in such a jarring position. My thoughts drifted a little to what Asher must be doing right now,he must be with the council member trying to decide my fate and I know without a doubt I was as good as dead. Death is the punishment for death,it has always been that way. “A minute is up” Cyrus said and I nodded in understanding.I was about to enter the cage when I heard the door open,f**k!!!!We were both screwed. Thankfully it wasn't Asher,it was Eloise who snuck in,Cyrus was about to protest upon seeing her but she held her finger close to her mouth signaling him not to say a word,he looked between me and her and I made a small plea sound,he went towards the door to be on the lookout while Eloise knelt down to embrace me. “ Davina,I am so sorry,I tried,I really tried to stall them but someone must have informed them”. Elosie said with a tear ridden face “There was nothing you could have done Eloise, you did your best” I replied parting her back in comfort. Eloise still holding me tightly whispered into my ears “ You need to run,the council members are planning to have you killed and I don't think Asher is going to defend you,you have to escape if you want to survive Davina” I felt something sliding into my pocket,it was Eloise placing a key there “ The key to the cage,I managed to steal it from Asher but he would notice soon that his keys are missing so you need to act fast”. All I could do was nod my head. Cyrus came back into the cell to tell Eloise her time was up,she reluctantly stood up and was about to leave when I pulled her into a long hug and whispered into her ears “ Please tell Asher I love him and wasn't responsible for his dad's death, you have to tell him okay”. Eloise replied immediately with a consistent yes,Cyrus made a small sound and we both detached from one another, Eloise waved at me as she left the cell while he placed me back into the cage. Hours later and it was midnight,I could tell from the reflection of the moon in the muddy water that leaked into the cell from above,a snoring Cyrus was seated on a chair next to me,by now it was clear he was far gone. I brought out the key and carefully opened the cage door, making sure I was as still as possible while doing it. I then crawled towards Cryus who was murmuring in his sleep and detached the bundle of keys from his trousers, carefully unbinding myself from the chains. This was it,I was free,I needed to run,I knew the way out the back garden led into the forest and a secured fence was at the end of the forest,I must get there quickly before anyone is aware of my escape,I took one last look at Cyrus pitifully because I knew he would get in trouble because of me but I had to survive if I wanted to get my revenge on whoever framed me. I slowly tiptoed out of the cell, leaving the door opened as I made my way out,a few people passed by me but I made sure to hide myself quickly by a corner and at last I was at the back garden,I took to my heel and ran as fast as my leg could,I needed to climb out the fence before they were aware of my escape otherwise it would have been for nothing. The fence was heavily guarded with a high-powered electronic device that could electrocute a werewolf to death.I was halfway into the forest when I started hearing voices and I knew I was busted. I needed to move faster so I shifted into my wolf form, running deeper into the woods like a pro. Asher and I surveyed the woods together so I knew every nook and cranny of the forest. My wolf form was faster but so were the people after me,I could tell they were getting closer and knew what they were after, the fence switch. Once they got to the fence switch it was over for me,I could see the fence, just a few more run and I was out,I just needed to be faster,my wolf howled loudly as my speed accelerated and before I knew it I was at the fence only Asher was there already, holding on to the switch that guarded the fence and in that moment I knew I was doomed.
