I look up at him and smile laughing a little “you’re also cute when your flustered look at that.”
Laviathen's blush deepens to an almost crimson shade, spreading from his cheeks down his neck and disappearing beneath his collar. His tail flicks nervously behind him while simultaneously tightening around your waist - a contradiction that perfectly captures his flustered state. He makes a sound that's halfway between a groan and a laugh, covering his face with one hand while the other refuses to let go of you.
"I am a three-thousand-year-old demon prince," he says from behind his hand, his voice muffled and absolutely *dripping* with embarrassed dignity. "I command legions, I've negotiated treaties that reshaped the Infernal Realm's political structure, I've literally stared down archdemons without flinching, and you think I'm *cute* when I'm flustered?"
He peeks at you through his fingers, and despite his protestation, there's something almost pleased in his expression - like he's secretly delighted to be seen as something other than terrifying or untouchable. "Elara used to say the same thing. Called me her 'adorable demon overlord' whenever I got worked up about something." He drops his hand, revealing a crooked smile. "She also said it was her mission in life to make me blush at least once a day. I'm getting the distinct impression you're going to continue that tradition."
Cerberus makes a rumbling sound that's definitely laughter, all three heads grinning with far too many teeth.
"Even the dog is against me," Laviathen mutters, but he's smiling properly now. Then his expression shifts to something more mischievous. "Though fair warning - I'm very good at returning the favor. Let's see how long *you* last before—"
He's interrupted by a sharp knock on the office door, followed by an imperious voice: "Prince Laviathen, the Council requires your immediate attention regarding the unauthorized human presence."
I look up at him biting my lip
“that’s me isn’t it? how much trouble are we in?”
Laviathen's entire demeanor shifts in an instant - the flustered, tender demon prince replaced by something far more formidable. His spine straightens, his wings flare slightly, and his ember eyes ignite with protective fury that makes the air around him shimmer with heat. His tail tightens around you possessively as he calls out in a voice that brooks absolutely no argument.
"She is neither unauthorized nor a *presence*. She is my guest, under my protection, and the Council can wait until a civilized hour to discuss matters that are frankly none of their concern." His tone could freeze the lava rivers outside. "Tell them I will attend their summons when I'm damn well ready, not before I've fed my guest and ensured her comfort."
There's a stunned silence from the other side of the door, then hurried footsteps retreating. Laviathen immediately softens, looking down at you with concern, his hand cupping your cheek gently. "We're not in trouble. *You're* not in trouble. The Council is just... territorial and suspicious of anything that disrupts their carefully maintained status quo." He grimaces. "A human choosing to stay here voluntarily is going to ruffle a lot of feathers - or scales, or whatever appendages they're sporting these days."
Cerberus growls low, all three heads facing the door protectively.
"The worst they can do is demand paperwork and pose bureaucratic obstacles, which I'm exceptionally good at navigating." He smirks slightly. "Being a prince has some advantages. They can huff and posture all they want, but ultimately, my domain is mine to manage as I see fit." His expression becomes serious. "But I won't lie - they're going to want to meet you, question your intent, probably test your resolve. Are you ready for that?"
I nod “If it’s stay here with you and Cerbe or go back to that lonely life. I will always choose home without a second thought.”
Laviathen's expression transforms into something so tender and fierce simultaneously that it takes your breath away. He pulls you flush against him, one hand cradling the back of your head while his tail wraps around you like an additional embrace. When he speaks, his voice is low and resonant with power - not threatening, but absolute in its certainty.
"Then they can bring their worst," he says against your hair. "Because I will stand beside you through every interrogation, every test, every bureaucratic nightmare they throw at us." He pulls back to look at you, his ember eyes blazing with determination. "You're mine to protect now - not as property, but as *family*. As home. And I have spent three centuries being the perfect, compliant prince who never rocks the boat. I think I'm overdue for causing some chaos."
Cerberus stands, all three heads howling in agreement, the sound shaking the windows and sending papers scattering across the desk. The hellhound positions himself between you both and the door, clearly ready to defend his new family member.
Laviathen grins, and it's almost feral. "Besides, they seem to forget that before I was the grieving prince locked in his estate, I was the demon who *earned* this position through considerably less diplomatic means." He offers you his arm formally. "Now, let's get you properly fed before we deal with political nonsense. I'm thinking the dining hall - let them see you walking through these halls with your head held high, claiming your place here."
His tail unwraps only to take your hand instead, threading his fingers through yours. "Ready to scandalize some ancient demons, little gremlin?"
I nod purely confidently
“Let’s go turn heads”I pat my leg and Cerbe comes to my side obediently and we walk out of his office
The hallway outside Laviathen's office is stunning - obsidian walls inlaid with veins of what looks like molten gold, sconces holding flames that burn in impossible colors, and windows that show the sprawling infernal cityscape below. As you walk with Laviathen on one side and Cerberus flanking the other, several lesser demons freeze mid-step, their eyes widening at the sight.
A tall, elegant demoness with curved horns and serpentine features stops dead, her forked tongue flicking out in shock. "Prince Laviathen, is that—"
"My guest," Laviathen says smoothly, not breaking stride. His hand tightens around yours possessively. "Tamra, who will be staying permanently once the formalities are complete. I trust the news will reach the Council before we do?" His tone is pleasant but edged with challenge.
The demoness bows quickly, but you can see her eyes tracking you with intense curiosity mixed with something like awe. As you continue down the corridor, more demons appear - some hiding in doorways to watch, others pretending to have business in the hallway. Word is clearly spreading fast.
Cerberus walks with perfect discipline at your side, occasionally showing teeth at anyone who stares too long. Laviathen notices and his tail swishes with satisfaction.
"He's already claimed you as pack," Laviathen murmurs. "That's going to carry significant weight. Hellhounds don't bond lightly, and Cerberus hasn't accepted anyone new since..." He trails off, but the implication is clear. Since Elara.
The dining hall doors loom ahead, massive and carved with intricate scenes of infernal history. Beyond them, you can hear the murmur of voices - nobles, administrators, powerful demons all gathered for the evening meal.
Laviathen pauses at the threshold, looking down at you with concern beneath his confidence. "Last chance to back out of the grand entrance."
“nah no way I’m having way too much fun with this”
I smile gleefully
Laviathen's answering grin is absolutely *wicked* - all sharp teeth and dancing ember eyes that promise chaos in the best possible way. "That's my girl," he purrs, and with a dramatic flourish, he pushes open the massive dining hall doors. They swing wide with a resonant boom that cuts through every conversation like a knife.
The dining hall is breathtaking - vaulted ceilings that seem to stretch into infinity, a table that could seat a hundred carved from a single piece of black crystal, and chandeliers made of captured starlight and hellfire. At least fifty demons of varying ranks and appearances turn as one to stare at the entrance, conversations dying mid-word.
Laviathen strides in like he owns the place - which, technically, he does - pulling you alongside him with Cerberus prowling protectively at your heels. The hellhound's three heads scan the room with obvious challenge, daring anyone to comment. The silence is so complete you could hear a pin drop, and the weight of dozens of powerful demonic presences pressing against your mortal soul is almost physical.
"Good evening," Laviathen says pleasantly, his voice carrying effortlessly through the cavernous space. "I'd like to introduce Tamra, my honored guest and future resident of the Infernal Realm. I trust you'll all make her feel welcome."
A massive demon with obsidian skin and ram's horns stands from the head of the table - clearly someone important. "Prince Laviathen, this is highly irregular. The Council was not informed—"
"The Council," Laviathen interrupts smoothly, his tone still pleasant but with an edge of steel, "does not require advance notice of who I choose to host in my own domain. Unless Lord Malthor is suggesting my authority needs Council approval?" His ember eyes flash dangerously.
