Georgie
I walked up towards the long table spread out in the centre of the pack hall. I walked beside Mum as I pulled out my chair. The chair's legs scraping along the wooden floor, making every elder sitting along the table turn and glare at me. I sat down beside Mum and grimaced at her. She reached underneath the table and grabbed hold of my hand supportively.
“Thank you for meeting us today. We are sorry you are missing out on Nathan’s football match but we thought these matters hold precedence.” The head elder said, bringing everyone’s attention to him.
“We are glad to be here to meet you.” Mum responded politely.
Don’t worry, I have had lots of practice keeping these guys happy. Mum commented to me with a smirk.
“Now, let’s begin the discussions.” The elder announced. I sat there with not a single thought that I could add to the discussion.
“First, we have decided to begin training sessions with alternate specialising elders each Wednesday at 4:00pm.” An elder states matter of factly.
“Trainings?” I asked curiously. The elder looked at me shocked. I felt like I had missed some important information in this conversation but couldn't figure out what.
“To learn to control your abilities and help uncover any future abilities we may find.” An elder explained, looking at me like I was an i***t.
“Sounds wonderful.” I rolled my eyes and muttered under my breath. I felt Mum elbow me in the ribs warningly. I felt an eye roll coming and fought it.
'We may find’ I repeated to Skye. As if they are everyone's abilities and not just mine. I added, annoyed. Skye remained silent.
“That’s settled then.” The head elder interjected, “Now, next topic to discuss. Georgie’s turning eighteen in two days, we need to organise her mate.” He continued. I stared forward in shock.
Organise my mate? I muttered, more to myself than to Skye.
I felt my blood begin to boil.
“Perhaps we should make a list of suitable mates for her?” One elder sitting on my right suggested. I held back a groan.
“Or we could send out a request for all men in search of their mate from the nearby packs?” Another elder commented. I saw red. These people are sitting around a table discussing who I should choose as a mate, as if it isn’t a gift from the goddess.
What right did they have to think it was something they could interfere with?! I said, enraged.
The goddess has her own plans. Things will happen as she decides. Skye replied with a level head. I was surprised, usually it is Skye who has the more fiery temper and I am controlling her. The conversation continued around me whether I was there or not.
“We could make the Honorary Alpha’s ball an opportunity to introduce her to suitable Alpha's?” The head elder suggested. I have had enough. I was boiling with rage. I felt Mum sitting rigid beside me but she didn't say a word. Just let these oldies make decisions for my life.
“Do I get any say!?” I yelled across the table, slamming my hands against the table. I felt a stinging in my hands from the impact with the table. I felt the sharp stares of all the elders on the table as my Mum gasped beside me. I pushed the chair back and ran out of the room. I was finished with this conversation. Watching the discussion take place as if I wasn’t even in the room.
I pushed the door open and stormed out. Not looking back.
I walked down the road, concentrating on breathing deeply and trying to level my head. I felt my whole body shaking with rage. I stopped by a huge bus which was parked on the side of the road. I tried to cross the road but the traffic leaving the football game was bumper to bumper, leaving no opportunity to cross. I groaned.
"This day just keeps getting better and better..." I sighed to myself and stepped back onto the footpath.
“Are you alright?” A man’s voice asked. I turned to find who had said it. I saw a huge figure leaning up against the side of the bus. He was probably about the same height as Nathan, a lot taller than myself. His sandy blonde hair hanging down his face in a ‘just woke up’ way, his broad shoulders displaying his strong physique and athletic build. He was a very good looking man, but it was his dark brown eyes that had me mesmerised. I felt like I had seen them before but couldn’t pinpoint when. I could feel myself getting lost in them and the scent of mint that was surrounded by only made me swoon more.
“I’m fine.” I shook my head and glanced down at the floor. Trying to avoid getting stuck in his gaze and looking like a fool when I couldn't string a sentence together.
“You look a little worked up.” The man commented with a smile as he stepped away from the bus. I turned to glance down the road again.
“It has just been a rough day.” I mumbled.
That’s putting it lightly. I groaned to Skye.
I wonder if he is on the prescribed list of suitable mates? Skye giggled.
“I didn’t see you at the football game today?” He asked, raising his eyebrows.
“I’m not a huge fan of sport.” I shrugged my shoulders, tempting fate and looking at him. He laughed out loud.
"I see... Do you live around here?" He asked, c*****g his head to the side.
"Around. You clearly do not." I commented, gesturing to the bus behind him. He smirked as his attention was drawn to something behind me.
“Will I see you around?” He asked, turning his attention back to me. My heart began to race at the intensity of his eye contact.
“Maybe.” I smirked and shrugged my shoulders.
“I hope so!” He winked as he jogged towards the door of the bus.
His minty scent, following him. He began to walk up the stairs onto the bus, so I took the opportunity to run across the road in the short break between the cars.
I continued walking home along the road when my phone began to ring. I pulled it out of my pocket to look at the caller ID: Sienna.
“Hello?” I answered.
“You’ll never guess what happened to me!” Sienna squealed.
“I’m sure it was better than what happened to me…” I muttered.
“Definitely! I met the most dreamy guy at the football game today! He ran over to the sidelines to talk to me!” She giggled.
“I guess he played for the opposition?” I asked.
“Yep! He might be coming to the Honorary Alpha's Ball next weekend!" Sienna stated. I could tell she was grinning from her tone of voice.
"Sounds great!" I laughed as I kept walking towards the house.
"So it looks like we will need to go looking for a dress for the ball!" Sienna squealed excitedly. I rolled my eyes. Great.
"I will call you later. I just got home." I said nervously.
"OK! Talk soon!" Sienna said before the line went dead.
I stood in front of my house. Working up the courage to enter. I knew I would be in trouble. I was contemplating turning around to going to Nanna Elena's house but knew they would find me.
"Georgie! Get in this house now!" Dad screamed from inside the house. A shiver ran down my spine. Crap. I am in deep now.
