I had the same unnerving dream I always had. I was playing soccer with my friends but I was sixteen
and it was the day I met Jessica. I had just won and was congratulated by all my family and friends. Whenever we had a game more people from the pack stopped by. I had never seen Jessica before that day. She was wearing cut off shorts and a yellow crop top. I remembering thinking yellow was a good color on her. My eyes immediately spotted her in the crowd. I knew my wolf and I felt her presence but I hadn't seen her face yet. I wanted to run to her but I tried to stay concentrated on the game. As soon as everyone was congratulating me I thought she would come by and say hi but she didn't. I looked everywhere for her but I couldn't find her. I ran to the parking lot and finally caught her scent. I knew it was her because it drove my wolf crazy. It was this fresh lavender scent. I made my way to her and she was standing there looking away from me. I turned her around and looked into her eyes. She had the most wonderful hazel eyes. I kissed her at that same moment. Her lips were so addictive and I wanted to mark her right then and there. I pulled away before I got to carried away. She was smiling and I felt like the luckiest man on earth. Her parents came over and unlocked the car she was standing by. As soon as she did that she jumped into the back seat and closed the door. I remember smiling because I knew she wouldn't get away and was happy she was nervous. If only she would have stayed a delicate shy flower as she once was. I woke up annoyed because I hated dreaming about her. She caused too much damage to me and my pack. I never wanted to let my guard down around her but I knew my heart still felt some type of way about her. I went to my office and grabbed a glass and poured myself some whiskey. I thought about tonight and the kiss I had with Sapphire. I wanted to hold her and kiss her over and over again but I knew I wanted nothing to do with her either. When I first saw her I wanted to tell her I missed her and how much I needed her. If I could start my life over maybe I would hope for a different outcome but never would I deny that my heart and soul once belonged to Jessica and that right now I want to give my all and dive hard and fast with my new mate. We may never know why things play out and happen the way they happen but I know life has a way of setting you back on track somehow. I am a monster and a destructive beast but I want to find my way back not just for my mate but for me and my pack. If that is in any way possible I will.
The next morning, I was too hungover to get up. I didn't really sleep. I just passed out after my twelveth drink. I was in no mood to handle pack business or train with my men.
"Alpha," Cole spoke as he knocked on my office door. I had fallen asleep on the big couch I had by the window. The sun was really blazing today. I began to close the curtains as he walked in.
"What is it?" I asked.
"We found some information about the attack last night," he said.
"Ok, speak," I demanded.
"Looks like Jessica was attacking a very low-level pack that only had 20 members or so. Not sure why but maybe she was just stumbled upon them," Cole said.
"A random attack," I said. "Doesn't seem like Jessica every does anything just randomly.
"Well, what do we do now?" he asked.
"Call Liam, "I said. Cole called Liam and told him everything he knew. Liam apparently was checking over the area and noticed another scent and some blood splattered leading to the spot where I saw Jessica and Sapphire fighting.
"Who's blood is it?" Cole asked. Liam answered he didn't know but it did belong to a wolf.
"You think one could have survived?" Cole asked while looking at me. I didn't answer but I need to find out as much as I could about what Jessica was planning and why she killed this pack.
"Ask Liam if he still has any new of the other missing person?" I told cole. He asked Liam through the phone and then as I got my answer I picked up my jacket and told cole "Let's go."
We met up with Liam and looked around the area. We were in a fancy part of town and I knew I would find what I was looking for here or should I say who. I need to take everything I felt and could muster up to find her. I closed my eyes and tried to concentrate. Suddenly, I felt something. It was small at first but I felt her. It was an invisible force pulling me to her. As I got closer I could almost swear I saw this wave of pink and white light. Like a ribbon telling me to follow it for it would lead to her. Sure enough, it led me to a fancy penthouse and standing at her doorstep I knew at the end of this ribbon would be her beautiful face.
I was hesitant to knock but I did anyway. Of course, that bloodsucker answered the door. I think he knew I was not going to take a door to the face and leave without seeing her so he just stepped aside.
"Sapphire," he called. I hated that he was so close to her not just because he was a guy but because he was a freak. She came out of a door that was in the back of the room near the kitchen. I noticed her red curls first and then her long slender legs that were not covered. She was wearing navy pajama shorts and a white tank top that I noticed next. Damn, I hate that she is stunning and very sexually appealing. I wanted to be possessive and demand she go change but that would just lead to a fight and then my purpose for coming here overshadowed.
"Hey," I said. She already looked confused but looked more so after I spoke.
"Hello," she said. Her voice was soft and gentle. I hate to think I had disturbed her sleep and woke her up.
"I need to know if you have any information on the pack that was attacked by," I stopped. "Jessica, and why she might have chosen that particular pack in the first place?" I asked.
"No, the girl hasn't said anything to us yet. We are letting her rest before we ask her what happened," she said. I felt myself getting upset. I was eager to know something, anything about what happened.
"We can't wait that long," I said.
"Well, you're going to have to wait," she said. I clenched my fist and her vampire friend stepped in front of her. She grabbed his arm and I clenched them tighter.
"We would have this issue resolved if you would have just taken care of the problem," the vampire spoke harshly.
"Henry!" she shouted.
"Listen here zombie, nobody cares about your opinion," I snarled.
"Henry shouldn't have said that but he has a point. You have to deal with your issue sooner or later before more lives are lost," she said. I knew she was right but I couldn't make up my mind or tell my mate I would kill her, protect her from Jessica.
"Can't you just stay out of it," I said softly. She looked upset.
"No!" she shouted.
"I don't want you to get hurt and even if you are a hunter this is no place for you," I told her. My words only upset her more.
"My place is to do the right thing and protect those who can't protect themselves against any creature who wants to break the rules," she said with such conviction. I was proud of her and happy to see I had such a strong mate but I didn't want her to get hurt.
"I want to speak to the rogue," I said.
"No," she responded.
"I will not ask again," I said harshly. The vamp took a step closer and showed his teeth. I wasn't scared or impressed. My men came closer but I held them back.
"We need answers NOW!" I shouted. The vamp must have thought I was going to attack so he came at me and tried to push me back but it was much harder then he imagined. I grabbed him and threw him on the couch. I didn't want to fight or break anything. I already saw the worried and sad look on Sapphire's face.
"I don't want to fight so back off," I said. " I just want to speak to the girl."
Suddenly an Asian looking female with black and purple hair came out of another room closer to the living room. She looked scared and had bruises and cuts on her face and arms.
"Please don't kill me," she said. I felt Liam move closer and I turned to look at his face and then I knew.
"s**t,"
