Lucy POV

**Trigger warning this chapter will discuss s.exual assault**

I wake up and feel like I’m lying next to a furnace. Why is it so hot in my room? It must be this blanket, when the heck did I get a weighted blanket? I start to move and shake trying to throw this blanket off me when a gruff voice tells me to stop moving. I almost throw myself out of the bed before I hear Diana whisper “Mate,” that’s when I realize I recognize the scent and feel sparks along where our bodies are touching. I stop moving but I don’t look up at him. I’m afraid if I make eye contact with him he’ll get up and run. How pathetic is that? He’s done nothing but treat me like garbage and hide me and I still want him to hold me.

This mate bond really has a hold on me. But is it just the bond? Because he seems to have no trouble defying it. “What are you doing here?” I finally ask in a small voice, that sounds much weaker than I had hoped it would.

“I came to see how you were doing last night and I heard you crying, I think you were having a nightmare.”

“Yeah,” I agree, remembering what I was dreaming about before my dreams stopped. That must have been when he came into my room.

“What were you dreaming about?” He asks hesitantly.

“The other night, I think now that Diana is back I’m starting to remember a little bit more.”

“Do you remember what happened?” He asks holding me tighter to him.

“A little, I remember feeling like I wanted to say something, like I wanted to tell him to stop. I wanted to try to hit him or kick him but I couldn’t. I couldn’t talk, couldn’t move, couldn’t call out for help.” I choke out a sob at that last part, talking about this really isn’t easy. “I think that was the worst thing, feeling completely helpless and out of control. I felt his mouth on my body sucking my skin, felt his hand grabbing me, I-I felt it when he ripped my underwear off of me,” Maddox lets out a growl as I say that and my tears are falling fast now, I don’t think I could stop crying even if I tried. “That’s all I remember I don’t think the rest will come back to me because it’s like just a black wall in my mind all of a sudden.”

“I think you remember most of it then. We got there right before he could progress his assault.”

“I don’t know that I remember most of it, what I do remember is in bits and pieces. I took a shower last night and there are, um, there are marks all over my chest and neck that I don’t remember him leaving. I only have the memory of his disgusting mouth on me, not how long it was on me for. If that makes sense?”

“What do you mean marks?” Maddox asks sounding calm but also pissed off if the anger in his voice is anything to go by.

“H-he left hickeys, I guess. I don’t know how I’m going to be able to look at myself in the mirror until they’re gone,” I whisper. Then Maddox surprises me by gently lifting my chin towards him so that I’m looking at him for the first time all morning.

“I’m sorry about what happened to you. You know that what I said to you at the hospital was bulls.hit, none of this was your fault. And while I understand you probably don’t want to see those marks, if you do just know that you did nothing to deserve it. Now I have to go, and you need to know that this can’t change things between us. We still can’t tell people what we are to each other, and I still have to be with Kara. Before I go though,” he says, gently moving me off of him and getting up. “You should know that my father and I decided on a punishment for Dan. He will be executed in two days’ time. What he did to you was deplorable, and while that generally may have led to banishment the fact that he also drugged you with wolfsbane sealed his fate.”

He doesn’t even let me respond before he walks out of my room without another word. If it wasn’t for the fact that I could smell him on my pillow I would have thought he was never even here. I lie back down for a little while before deciding to get up and get ready for the day. I know I’m supposed to take a week off but if I have nothing to do besides sit around for a week I think I’ll go crazy. So, I’m going to get ready and go start baking pastries for the day. As soon as I walk into the kitchen I get swarmed by Trish and a few of the other Omegas that had gone out with us.

“Thank the Goddess you’re okay!” Trish yells as she practically throws herself into my arms.

“Goodness gracious Trish, give the girl room to breathe,” Belinda yells from behind her before coming up and hugging me gently herself. “Now Lucy, I do believe you’re supposed to be on bed rest are you not?”

“I know, I just, I’m feeling fine I swear and if I have nothing to do for a whole week I’m going to go crazy. I promise I won’t overdo it and I’ll tell you if I need a break if you just let me come back. Please,” I ask giving her my best puppy dog eyes.

She gives me a stern look before answering, “Okay fine, but if you look off for even one moment, I’m sending you back to your room.”

“Deal, thank you so much!” Belinda gives me another hug before going on her way and Trish starts with an inquisition.

“I can’t believe Dan tried to hurt you, are you okay? Do you need anything? Do you want to talk about it? Do you think he’ll get in trouble?”

If this is how my day is going to go, maybe I will need to go back to my room. But maybe if I answer her she’ll back off a bit. “I’m okay, I don’t need anything, I really don’t want to talk about it, and yes.” I wasn’t going to elaborate on what kind of trouble he’d be getting in, they’d find out soon enough.

“Okay, okay, I can take a hint, just one more question though-“

“Lucy, I have a surprise for you,” I hear Kara’s voice coming from outside the kitchen and cutting Trish off, and I’m actually thankful for the interruption even if it is her.

“What is that?” I ask turning around as she walks in followed by Alpha Darren, Luna Katherine, and their daughter Gina. My eyes must be bugging out of my head, what the heck are they doing here?

“Well, your Alpha and Luna had already planned to come this way for the ceremony even though it was postponed they decided to still make the trip and make sure you were okay. Isn’t that so thoughtful of them?”

“Um, yes,” I say slowly. It is thoughtful, and also not something they would normally do. They’re here for some other reason and I’m positive it has nothing to do with me. They could have just been hoping for some face time with the future King and Queen but it’s still weird they’re here.

“Oh my dear, I’m so glad you’re up and about,” Katherine says walking over and squeezing my hand.

“Thanks, me too.”

“Why are you up and about?” I hear my mate’s voice ask from the door, why the heck is everyone here right now?

“His wolf was worried about us,” Diana tells me.

“Why?”

“You and Maddox started to bond when he saved us and then when he slept in our bed. Leo can sense us more now and he can tell we’re anxious.”

This was news to me; I hope he wasn’t always going to be able to sense what I’m feeling. “Lucy,” Maddox snaps, “you’re supposed to be off for the week.”

“Oh, yeah I know I was just feeling better this morning and wanted to keep busy.”

“Oh Maddox let the girl work if she wants to. I’m sorry to run but I have a dress fitting, we pushed back all my final measurements but I need to keep on top of these things since the King could reschedule the ceremony at any time.”

“Oh of course, go do what you have to,” Katherine says in a sickly sweet voice that almost made me gag. As soon as Kara was out of the kitchen they rounded on Maddox.

“Alpha,” Darren said bowing to his future King, “I don’t believe you met my daughter when you were at our pack.”

“No, I don’t think I did,” Maddox answers, still looking at me.

“This is Gina,” Katherine says shoving her daughter forward.

“Hello, Alpha,” Gina says in a husky voice I know for a fact she is just putting on to try to make herself sound sexy.

“Call me Maddox,” he says finally looking away from me and holding out a hand for her to shake. She takes his hand and with a giggle runs her hand up and down his arm.

“Thank you Maddox. It’s so great to meet you, we’ll be here for a few days so I do hope you’ll show me around the palace.” She preens as she continues rubbing him and I can’t control the growl that bubbles up out of my throat. How dare she flirt with him, I’m not sure if Diana would react the same if Kara was touching him. Maybe it’s because I’ve never seen the two of them touch and flirt with each other but watching Gina makes me want to tear her arms off. I didn’t think I was loud but when all four heads turn to me I realize they must have heard me. Darren and Katherine look surprised, Gina looks annoyed, and Maddox has a small smirk on his lips.

“Sorry, I was just thinking about the other night and Diana got upset. Maybe I should head to my room and rest for a bit.”

“You do that,” Maddox says, still smirking at me. I put down what I’m working on and rush out. C.rap, I can’t let my emotions show like that. I am definitely going to have to work on reigning in my jealousy.
