I took a gulp of fresh air, staring at the surprisingly clear sky. The day seemed warmer than yesterday, and the place had lost its ominous look from the night before. My eyes ran wild as I took in the green grass with flower beds surrounding the building, the paved path that ran beside the house, and disappeared down the valley where even more houses peeked through the trees. There was nothing shabby or primitive about the place. It wasn’t New York, but despite their small size, every single house we passed seemed new, well-maintained, and inhabited. The people were wearing normal clothes as well, contrary to what I had expected, and most of them barely paid us any mind, too busy with their work or their own conversations.
