Chapter 7— A strange feeling. Rowena’s POV It was a few nights before the day of the Luna ceremony, I couldn’t help but feel a little emotional. My mind drifted to when Liam and I had first found out we were mates, and how excited I had been. Liam, Aaliyah, and I both grew up together, I grew up having a little crush on Liam and when I found out that he was my mate, I was more than happy. I could remember how I had screamed into the night thanking the moon goddess for making him my mate and how lucky I was… well, I guess I was wrong on that part. I sighed as I let my eyes wander at the serenity through my windows. Staying in this pack and getting myself an ally was a good thing but in the way I have chosen? Well, that wasn’t but I had no choice. A short knock on the door pulled me back to reality, I cleared my throat in an attempt to clear my thoughts. “Come in,” I called and the door knob turned slowly, and in, walked in my soon-to-be baby’s daddy. “Hi,” he greeted. “Hi,” I responded. Although, a little bit suspicious as to why he was gracing me with his presence. “So I just thought to check up on you, see how you are holding up” he shrugged, placing his hands into his pockets. “Well, I’ve been good and your pack is quite welcoming I must say” I couldn’t help the amount of sarcasm that dripped out of my mouth following that statement but I wasn’t sure he noticed considering the unchanged look in his eyes. “Right. Um— so. I just hope you know after the ceremony then we will” he trailed off and I nodded knowing what he was going to say anyways. “Yeah I do, it’s when I have to take the path leading to the beginning of me completing my end of the deal” I shrugged in reply. Deep down, my heart was beating faster than usual while I tried to force myself to be calm. “Well, good we both have the same understanding” he nodded then proceeded to leave, “Anika will see that you are well prepared before the D-day,” he said then left. Minutes after Ryker had left, the door opened and revealed a woman who looked like she was twenty because of the wolf genes but I knew she wasn’t that young. “Hi, Anika.” I greeted cheerily but the way she looked at me in a cold, calculating way brought shivers to my skin. Maybe it’s just me, maybe it’s because I’m in a new pack but I could have sworn that… “The Alpha told me you will need my help.” She said coldly as she walked inside. “Well yeah, so he said” I nodded. My eyes followed every bit of her movement at the same time a gnawing feeling grew in me. “Not that it would help you anyways.” she muttered under her breath. I shut my eyes and took in a deep breath as I restrained myself from saying a word to her. I needed to keep my chill, she wasn’t worth the stress. “So what do you say? Show me the basics, tell me the basics, I can start from there.” I smiled as I pretended not to have heard her mutter. “There’s nothing for you to know that concerns you, I will only be aiding you when it comes to getting you dressed” she replied snakily. “Then I guess you should leave.” The fake smile that was initially planted on my lips wiped off as I spoke. There was no need to fake it. It is official, she’s a f**king b***h. As she shut the door behind her pathetic life, I couldn’t help but imagine my days in this pack, first I had no friends and the man who is giving me the privilege to be here doesn’t stick around. Not that I expected him to, he was the Alpha which means he had tons of work to do. Maybe it’s time I take things into my hands, and make my own game and my own rules. I can’t spend the rest of the months being pathetic and having haters in this pack. I’d run mad. I stepped into my newly acquired closet and began to rummage through it looking for a well-accentuated dress. I finally got a dress that I felt was made for me, a black short dress with flowery patterns at the top. I put it on, checked myself on the mirror and when I was satisfied with my look I did a little twirl with a smile on my lips. I stepped out of the pack house and was glad that the house was quiet. Despite how eerily quiet it was, I didn’t seem to care, at least at that moment because my joy cut short as I spotted something or rather someone far away that seemed to have caused a crowd. “Well look who it is?” A lady whose voice sounded familiar said as she gave me a once-over. She had blonde hair, with lips a perfect size for her face and one of the prettiest blue eyes I have ever seen, she was in total— pretty. I glanced around trying to catch at least a familiar face when I spotted Ryker standing nearby. “Everyone leave!” He ordered and the crowd suddenly dispersed at his order. “Ryker, you have to be joking, right? You can’t be replacing me with that… that thing!” She pointed at me, her blue eyes shooting daggers at me. “I mean when I heard the news, I was curious to know who it is but I’m not surprised to see you downgraded” she tsked then chuckled as if there was anything funny in what she said. Her laughter, which was supposed to annoy me, sounded like music to one’s ears and I felt myself turning green from envy. There was no way I could compete with that. Argh! Why am I comparing myself to her again?
