Cup of Persistence

1514 Words
A week later, Au did not go to work with Brawn and Sparkle. She had told Sparkle to stand in for her that day. Au stayed at the pack house wondering why she kept seeing Brawn in her dreams often even after her efforts in pushing him away. She did not want to go to the factory that day because she did not want to see Brawn. After some time of pep talking herself and encouraging herself, she resolved to become ruder to Brawn in order to make him hate her and misbehave towards her so that she could see reasons to dislike him. This resolution encouraged her to go to the factory later that day. She had her carriage prepared and she set off to work. Brawn was outside the factory's building carrying some bags of seeds when he sited Au's carriage coming afar off with her gammas riding beside her. He thought to himself that he might have found a chance to make a better impression before Au. He had searched for opportunities to attempt his first hammering on the Au's mind walls of brick, the previous week but failed to find one. He thought to himself that the opportunity he had long waited for was before him. He kept the bags he was carrying in their proper positions and quickly went to get drinking water for Au. As soon as she got to the workplace and had settled down, Brawn approached her table with a cup of water. "Here is a cup of water, ma'am." Brawn presented the cup of water before Au, putting on his best manners. "But I do not remember asking you to get me one," Au said being taken aback by his sudden gesture. "Yes ma'am but I assumed that you would be thirsty since the sun is alright up in the sky," Brawn said standing his ground. Au was touched by his thoughtfulness and kind gesture but she was determined not to let it cloud her head and distort her intended plan. "Well, take it away. I am not thirsty," she said turning the cup of water down. "You can keep it with you till you are thirsty, ma'am," Brawn said as he was determined to stomach whatever attitude Au would put up. He was not ready to give up without a fight. Au looked at him and wondered why he had come to attack her the day she was managing to braze herself up against him. She had not expected him to be so calm and kind to her despite all her accusations and rudeness towards him. She was also confused because he had never approached her without her calling for him. His actions that day was totally intimidating to Au. "Why do you want me to have this cup of water so badly? . . . Or did you poison it so that you can be free from repaying me?" she said. "That would be so foolish of me, ma'am. You are a sister to the Alpha . . . and besides I can drink this right now if you think it is poisoned and get you another cup of water, ma'am," Brawn said calmly. He was still having his omega stance and etiquette on. He was determined to persist till she took the water. "Where is Sparkle?" Au said in an attempt to change the topic. She moved her eyes around the place like she did not know Sparkle was supposed to be in her section. "She went to get more flowers with some of the ladies," Brawn Informed her. Au thought the information Brawn gave her was a good escape from him so she decided to capitalize on it. She said aloud, "Oh I was not expecting the flowers to run out before my arrival." She wanted to stand up but was stopped by Brawn. "Ma'am, your cup of water," He reminded her stretching the cup of water in his hands towards her. "Are you not going to give up?!" Au snapped at him and it drew the attention of the other workers around. "No ma'am. Not today. I am sorry if I am bothering you but I learnt during my stay in the sub-pack hospital that hydration –" "You are right. You are bothering me! Get back to work and get out of my face!" Au interrupted him. "I will leave your sight now, ma'am, but please, accept this cup of water from me. See it as a tiny gesture of appreciation for being good to me all this while," he said courteously Au stared at him in shock for some time. She wondered if he had not noticed all her rude behaviour towards him. She had affronted him in front of the workers but he still felt she was good to him. Her heart melted and tears were building up in her eyes. She managed to say, "Put it on the table." "Thank you, ma'am," Brawn said as he dropped the cup of water on the table in front of her, made a little bow and left. Au quickly turned her face towards the wall as he left. The tears she had been struggling to hold in rushed down her cheeks to her lips. She quickly dabbed it off with her handkerchief and turned back to her table. Au sighed and wondered what she was going to do if Brawn kept up that attitude. She knew that she might not be able to remain firm if he continued with it. She did not know what else to do because Brawn was flawing her initial plans and making it difficult for her to push him away. Days went by and Brawn kept on trying to get on Au's good side. Any time he found an opportunity to make a good impression, he harnessed it. He also had become good friends with Sparkle. She giggled at most things he said even when he thought they were not funny but he was still cool with it. One evening, he was sitting with Nathan and some omegas. They were resting and gisting when he sited Sparkle entering the pack house with a bag. He stood up and went to meet her. She seemed to be returning from somewhere. "Hey Sparkle," He greeted as he got to her. She turned, smiled on seeing him and greeted back, "Hi Raw," and the two started walking. "This looks heavy, let me help you with it," he said out of honest concern for her. He felt he had gotten stronger over the few weeks he had stayed. He was able to carry some things he found difficult to lift when he had newly gotten to the pack house. He placed his hands on the bag Sparkle was carrying in an attempt to collect it from her but she refused politely saying, "No, thank you. It is fine . . .and besides it is not heavy, it just looks so," she said as she moved the bag away from his hands. "Come on, let me help you with it. If it is not heavy then let me carry it for you . . . I insist," He said and attempted again to take the bag from her but she moved it farther away from him, rejecting his offer again. While he persisted, he noticed some dirt on her right cheek. He pointed to her face and said, "Sparkle, you have something on your face. Give me the bag, so that you can wipe it off." "Ha Ha Ha." she laughed and said, "Nice try Raw but it is not working. I am not handing the bag over to you." "I'm serious, there is some dirt on your face. It is on your right cheek . . ." Brawn said pointing to her right cheek. "You can drop the bag on the floor and wipe it off yourself." "Ha Ha Ha." she laughed again and shook her head. "So that you can pick it up when I drop it down? No. . .your tricks won't work on me. There is nothing on my face. Thank you, " she said as she continued walking. "I am not shitting you. Okay, let me wipe it out myself . . . hold on . . . stand still," He said as he gently placed his right palm under her jaw and moved his thumb on her cheek to wipe off the dirt as she stood. Sparkle unconsciously shut her eyes, tilted her head and rested it on his palm as he wiped the dirt off her cheek. "Here it is," he said moving his palm away from her face and holding his thumb out for her to see. The sound of his voice made her open her eyes. She realized that she had been smiling. "You see, there was really something on your face," Brawn said and Sparkle stared at him. Her ocean blue eyes dilated and Brawn thought it was because she was surprised that there was something on her face.
