Iced Flame

"Okay, back to the bag. Please hand it over to me. No more protest," He said as he held the bag. To his surprise, she did not put up further fights. He took the bag from her hands so easily. Sparkle did not notice that he was taking the bag from her. She was blown away by the feel of his palm on her cheeks. She noticed that he had taken the bag from her when she felt her hands empty. When Brawn had fully taken the bag off her hands, he felt the full weight of the bag. It was not as light in weight as she had said. It was actually heavy. He lifted the bag to his shoulder. The bag was big and was filled with some round soft kinds of stuff so he tried balancing it on his left shoulder. He did not want to embarrass himself by returning the bag to her after he had stubbornly persuaded her for it. He increased his pace as he walked sp that he can quickly get to where he would drop the bag. "It seems heavy for you," she said as she smiled. "You can give it back to me now," she added opening her palms Brawn did not want to concede defeat so he said, "This? No, it is not heavy . . . What do you have in the bag? Feathers?" He said and let out a burst of fake laughter to show to establish his point. "The bag is filled with oranges. I intend on making some orange juice." "Oh, but how come they are this light? I guess oranges are no longer as solid as they used to be," he said and let out another peal of fake laughter. "Ha Ha Ha," Sparkle laughed and said to tease him, "But your face is squeezed and you are really walking fast." "Oh, I want to quickly return to the omegas. We were discussing a very interesting topic. That is why I am walking fast. . .and for my face, I just remembered something. That is why it is squeezed. You really think this is heavy for me?" "Hmmm I see. I am actually taking it to the back of the pack house where I will press the juice out. So let us go then . . . since the bag is not a bother to you," she said. When Brawn heard that he was to the bag to the back of the pack house, he lifted the bag off his shoulder and dropped it on the ground. He looked at Sparkle and said trying to find a way to not carry the bag again, "Why don't you come to sit with us? You work a lot. You need to loosen up and socialize more." "Who told you I don't socialize? I do socialize. I just want to quickly make the juice since I am less busy now," Sparkle said in defence. "Well, I haven't seen you do so. Come with me to the other omegas gisting under the shed and join the discussion. Prove it to me that you are social," Brawn said throwing her a challenge. "Is that a challenge?" Sparkle said, narrowing her eyes. "If you say so," Brawn said as he shrugged. "What if you find out that I am social? What will be my reward?" Sparkle said. "Ha Ha Ha," Brawn laughed and said, "What do you want?" "You will help me in preparing the orange juice," Sparkle proposed. "Deal!" Brawn accepted. "Let us get it started right now," he added. "What about the bag? Won't we take it to the back?" "I will be dropping it over there for now," he said pointing at a spot close to him. "I will move it to the back later. We need to get going now that we are free because we can get called up anytime to do some chores," he added. Sparkle quickly agreed. She did not want to miss another opportunity to spend time with Brawn without the others around them. She decided that she was going to do everything to win the challenge so that they could make the juice together. Brawn was happy when Sparkle agreed. His plan had worked out perfectly. He had brought up the issue of Sparkle not being social enough so that he could find an excuse not to take the bag to the back without looking stupid. He had the intention of secretly asking Nathan to help him out with carrying the bag to the back of the pack house when Sparkle would be engrossed with gisting. When they got where the other omegas gathered. Sparkle greeted and sat listening to their conversation. Not long, she was already a part of the conversation, talking and laughing. It was not hard for her to blend in because she knew them and they knew her too. She often glanced at Brawn when she was laughing at a joke to see if Brawn also caught the joke. Brawn, on the other hand, waited for the right time, excused Nathan and pleaded with him to help him carry the bag. He did not tell Nathan that it belonged to Sparkle and Nathan helped him move the bag to the back. The next day, Brawn went to work after he had finished his morning chore. Working with Au helped him escape some chores he disliked. His body had adapted to the nature of work and he had gotten familiar with his section members. He did not always do the hard part of the job, most times, he only offered assistance. He also had stopped going to work at the same time as Au and Sparkle. Au had instructed him not to wait for her again saying his section needed him to be there as early as possible. When it was break time at work. Brawn brought out the lunch he had wrapped from the pack house. It was a meal of boiled beans and mashed potatoes. It was not much, so he finished it in no time. He decided to use his remaining free time to sit at a corner and observe the environment. While he was there, he noticed Au standing in front of the building craning her neck at different intervals. Sparkle was not with her so Brawn assumed that she had sent her on an errand and was waiting for her to return. He stood up and walked up to her. "Ma'am, do you need anything?" he bowed and asked. "No, thank you," Au replied without looking at him. "Okay ma'am. If you would be needing anything, I will be over there, ma'am." She turned, glared at him and said, "I don't need your help now and I won't be needing it. So you can do me a favour and stop pestering me." "I am sorry, ma'am." "Just leave!" She yelled, scowled and left the spot she was standing initially. Brawn stood wondering if what Sparkle said about Au was true – if she could ever stop being rude to him. As she moved away from him, she missed a step and stumbled. Brawn quickly ran towards her and caught her by the waist preventing her from falling. It was an improper place to hold a lady – the most improper place to hold a dignitary – but that was where his hands happened to catch her by reflex. While she was in his arms and his arms were wrapped around her waist, he forgot all the ill treatments she had done to him. Her upper body was bent backwards and her red hair gave way for her face to be visible to him. The pendant of her necklace hung to the back of her neck. Everything seemed to have happened in slow motion. He had the opportunity to look at her in the face properly for the first time. Her ice blue pupils dilated in her almond eyes. Her eyes were cool but piercing at the same time. Brawn felt that her eyes were like flames frozen in ice. Her moderately sized mouth was slightly opened displaying part of her upper frontal teeth and her soft-looking pink lips covered the rest. Her facial skin glowed like it radiated the sun and Brawn could not help but stare in awe of her. She looked so beautiful and tender holding her at that close range. Brawn could almost not believe that she had been the one saying all those rude statements to him. He forgot he was not supposed to stare into her eyes. She was looking into his eyes and he was looking into hers. A lady beside them cleared her throat and it brought them back from their little moment. That was when they noticed that they had been in that position for a while. Brawn released Au and they both turned their attention to the lady who cleared her throat beside them and saw that it was Sparkle. She had returned from the pack house with some food as instructed by Au but met them in a unique position.
