Brawn walked out of the pack building angry and went straight to the omegas quarters, into his room. He shut the door of his room and started punching his bed. He punched the bed five times and went over to the table. He scattered every paper and book on it.
He sat on the bed and placed his palms on his forehead. He started wondering what kind of a b***h Au was. She extended the duration of his repayment scheme to her by two months. He was angry because he felt he would look like sissy following her about. He also felt that Au was determined to humiliate him amongst others. He moved backwards and rested it on his bed with his palms still on his forehead.
He decided to calm himself down because his anger would not do him any good. He tried to focus on the advantages he could get from being Au's errand boy rather than the disadvantages. He was going to be having greater opportunities to get Au to like him. He decided to take comfort in that.
In Au's room, Sparkle was giving Au a report on how the day went at work.
"Some werewolves from the neighbouring pack came to get some body oil, ma'am," Sparkle said as she sat down.
"In boxes?" Au asked and Sparkle nodded.
"How many boxes?"
"Two boxes, ma'am."
"Good! How about the olive seeds that were supposed to be delivered today? Have they brought it?" Au asked.
"Yes and I have paid for them too, ma'am," Sparkle replied.
"Okay, that's great. Any other update I need to know?"
"Nothing else, ma'am."
Au picked up the book that was on the table that she was going through when Brawn was in her room and started reading it.
Sparkle called in a low voice, "Ma'am."
"Hmm?" Au answered and lifted her eyes from the pages of the book to Sparkle.
"I met Brawn on the way when I was coming to the room. He said . . . he said you have fired him," Sparkle said slowly.
"Hmmm," Au answered nodding her head.
"Can I ask why, ma'am?" Sparkle asked.
"Oh, he didn't go to work today. That is why," Au said and moved her eyes back to the book in her hand.
"I thought that was why he didn't come to work today . . . because he was fired," Sparkle said with a little bit of uncertainty.
"Kind of intertwined. He slept in this room till the sun was setting. That was why he didn't go to work, hence, his dismissal," Au said as she dropped the book on the table.
"He slept in this room? How? Why?" Sparkle asked with a tone of confusion.
"I am equally as confused as you are. When he came to pick up the boxes. He slept off so I decided to leave him till he woke up. He is lazy, that is why," Au said.
Sparkle's countenance fell a bit as she remembered how Brawn looked that morning. She moved closer to Au and said, "I think he is not feeling too well. His face was very dull this morning when I met him. That might be the reason." She pulled a chair towards her and sat.
"Who?! Raw?! The one who devoured a meal enough to feed two fully grown werewolves?! He is very fine," Au began. She leaned forward a bit and said, "I made excess meal for myself and I decided to give him because I knew he would be hungry when he woke up. You should have seen him in full action. Tearing and chewing! He is just too slothful. That's all," she said gesturing all through her sentences.
Sparkle went quiet for a while and Au wanted to pick up the book she was reading earlier then Sparkle said, "Will he be cleared from the debt he owes you, ma'am?"
"Hell No! He still owes me. He is going to pay me. Out of my large heart, I decided to employ him as my errand boy in order to help him finish up his payment. I increased the days he would be working for me by two extra months –"
"Two months?! Isn't that too much, ma'am?" Sparkle asked with her eyes widened in surprise.
"No, it's fair enough. I am showing him compassion by making it two months. There is a repercussion to every mistake. The two months is his repercussion," Au said and leaned to the backrest of her chair. "Besides, it will help him work out laziness from bones," she added.
There was a moment of silence and Au resumed reading her book. Sparkle said informing her, "I am going to have my bath." and Au nodded without taking her eyes off the book again.
A few moments later, Brawn spotted Nathan with his family. He went to them and sat with them after they had exchanged pleasantries. When Nathan noticed that Brawn's countenance was not looking happy, he decided to take Brawn for a short walk around the pack house. He kissed his mate on her cheeks and tapped Brawn on the shoulder bidding Brawn to follow him.
While they were taking a walk, Nathan started, "Raw, what's up with you? You look unhappy, sort of. You look like an ass."
"Well, I don't know, Nathan. Things are just f*****g complicated these days, " Brawn complained.
"Is it the ladies again?" Nathan asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I wish it was. I really it was," Brawn said and sighed.
"So what is it?"
"It is Au," Brawn said.
"I thought you should have developed some tough skin against her rude attitude towards you by now?" Nathan asked.
"Dude, I got fired today."
"What?!"
"Not only that. I have become Au's new f*****g errand boy. I'll be following her ass like a f*****g dog!" Brawn said feeling disheartened.
"All these you are saying makes not much sense to me. Fill me in,"
"It's a long story, bro. I slept off in her room and I got fired. To pay off my debt of the broken window, I have to be her errand boy for two extra months," Brawn explained.
"Hmmm," Nathan said nodding his head and rubbing his cheeks with his right fingers. "It is all making sense now but how come you slept off in her room?" he said turning to Brawn.
"As I said, it is a long story but in summary, I woke up tired and weak. I slept off in her room without even knowing," Brawn tried to explain without going into many details.
Nathan wanted to say something but saw Sparkle walking towards them. When she got to where they were, she said with a smile, "Hi Nathan, Hi Raw."
"Hey Sparkle," Brawn replied.
"Sparkle! How are you doing? You look beautiful as usual," Nathan complimented.
Sparkle grinned and glanced at Brawn. She was almost blushing from Nathan's compliment. She said, "I am fine, Nathan. You are not looking bad either."
"Well, my mate is taking good care of me as you can see," Nathan said, opening his arms and looking at himself.
Brawn quickly drifted the conversation to something else because he knew where Nathan was driving the conversation to – match-making Sparkle with him, Brawn. "Where are you off to?" Brawn asked, putting his hands in his pocket.
"Actually, I came to speak with you," Sparkle informed him.
"Oh," Brawn said. There was a pause as he glanced at Nathan and added, "Did Au call for me?"
"No, I just . . . want to talk to you," she said in a low tone. "That is if you are not busy, of course," she added.
"No! I was actually leaving. He is not busy at all. See you guys later," Nathan said almost immediately before Brawn could talk for himself. He turned to Brawn, winked and walked away.
Sparkle and Brawn watched Nathan as he walked away. Brawn turned to Sparkle when Nathan was far away and she smiled.
"So what is it that you wanted to talk to me about?" Brawn asked.
"I asked Au why she fired you . . ." Sparkle started.
"Oh! That! Let's get a place to sit first before talking about that," Brawn suggested and Sparkle agreed.
They walked to a pavement by the pack house and sat on it. It was night already and all the burning torches around the pack house were lit and burning.
"So you were saying?" Brawn asked as they sat.
"Au said you slept off in her room this morning," Sparkle continued.
"It is a bit complicated but yes, I did," Brawn said resting his arms on his laps.
"I saw your face this morning before leaving. You looked sick. I am sure that is why you slept off, Are you okay, now?" Sparkle said, with concern showing in her voice.
"Thank you so much for understanding me. I am fine now. I just needed some rest. I am really grateful for your concern," Brawn said, clamping his palms together to show his gratitude.
Sparkle smiled and lowered her head a bit and reciprocated his gesture. She rose her head and said, "I heard of the new job Au gave you."
"I don't really have a choice. I have to be her errand boy," Brawn said as he shrugged.
"Well, I came to tell you that it is not as bad as it seems. I think you have progressed through her mind walls," Sparkle said.
Brawn's countenance lightened on hearing what Sparkle said. He asked, "You think so?"
"Yes, think about it. You will be around her almost every time just like I am. Why do you think she is entrusting you with her space and not someone else? Isn't it because she trusts you to a large extent?" Sparkle said, trying to convince Brawn.
Brawn had feelings of excitement and uncertainty rising in him. He asked, "But she is still rude to me."
"But she gave you her food and allowed you to sleep in her room. Would she have done that to just anyone she didn't trust?"
Brawn pondered on this and saw elements of truth in it. He broke into a big grin out of excitement and Sparkle smiled as well. She had said everything she said in order to cheer him up not knowing that it was a lot more to Brawn than she intended it to mean. She was not sure if what she said was true. She just wanted to see him smile again and it worked, which gladdened her heart. But as for Brawn, the floor was set to further steps to make Au like him.
