Brothers In The Pack house

"Come on! Let me add you to the meat to be distributed . . . Don't be shy, it won't take time," the younger hunter that picked the stick promised, closing and opening his fingers repeatedly in a gesture inviting Brawn to come towards him. Nathan came to Brawn and rubbed his back. He said in a small voice "Ignore them, the Head Hunter is on his way here." "I think he is getting some pep talk from his senior loser." a young hunter mocked and the rest kept roaring with laughter. The head hunter came in and the young hunter comported themselves. They knew the head hunter had zero tolerance for bullying. It was not strange for hunters to throw shades at omegas, especially the young hunters. They picked on any omega they could find a thing or two to say in mockery of him or her. The young female hunters mostly picked on the female omegas and rarely the male omegas while the young male hunters picked on any omega they set their eyes on. Not long, the butchering was done with and distributions were to be made. Carts pulled by horses were brought. The meats were packaged in bags and loaded. The Alpha's and the Beta's shares were set apart before loading the carts. The Alpha had chosen another Beta called Beta Jim who was appointed from among the Deltas after Beta Sinew was placed in charge of the sub-pack. The omegas assigned for the meat distribution saddled the horses pulling the carts, climbed on them and went off. Nathan and Brawn set out to the district assigned to them. Nathan rode the horse because he knew the pack routes very well while Brawn sat behind him. Au came out of the pack building with Sparkle. Her carriage was in front of the pack building waiting for them with some gammas on horses serving as escorts. When Au and Sparkle entered into the carriage and were set to leave for work, Nathan and Brawn rode past them. Au watched them from her carriage window and smiled. Au's gammas beat the horses and they started the journey to Au's workplace. Au owned a perfume and beauty oil factory. In the pack, apart from the obligations of joining a department to render service to the pack, members of the pack had some trade they practised in exchange for money. They paid taxes to the Alpha. Sparkle noticed the smile on Au's face as Nathan and Brawn rode past but ignored it. Au said to herself under her breath, "That new omega is cute." Sparkle heard her and said, "It is like you are finally beginning to see the good in him." "I never mentioned anything like that. I am just saying he is cute. He has this puppy facial look, especially when he is scolded . . . That's all," Au said as she turned her face to Sparkle. Sparkle stared at Au and asked, "Was that why you called him a thief because you enjoyed seeing him looking like a puppy?" She was still not pleased with Au's earlier action but could not do anything. "Hell No!" Au exclaimed. "He is a f*****g thief! He is also careless and indisciplined. Bumping into everyone he sees and stealing everything he set his eyes on. He deserved the scolding I gave him and even more," Au said sharply and tried to avoid Sparkle's eyes. "Please, let us leave that unruly guy. He irritates me. Let's talk about something else," she added as she turned her face back to the window. Sparkle studied Au and knew that she was lying about not deriving some kind of pleasure from scolding Brawn. She also knew that Au was not irritated by his sight but was trying to push him away as she always did when she started getting comfortable with a person. While on the road, Nathan started a conversation, "Raw is the name, right?" Nathan turned his face to Brawn who appeared not to be in the mood to talk. "Yes. . .Raw Riol." Brawn replied with no zeal at all to start a conversation. He was not enjoying his day. Firstly, he was called a thief for helping Au find her missing earring. Next, the young hunters called him a lapdog. "I'm Nathan by name, Nathan Brio," Nathan informed Brawn as he rode the cart gently. Brawn's interest grew as he heard Nathan mention his surname. "You are from the Brio family?!" Brawn's eyes widened as he asked in amazement. He had not imagined that Nathan was a member of his family. "Yes, My father was a cousin to the late Alpha Flare. . . The Alpha of the extinct Blue moon pack," Nathan explained further. "But I heard you weren't originally from this pack, how come you know the Brio family?" Nathan asked Brawn as he was surprised that Brawn knew the Brio family. "Are you kidding me? Who doesn't know the legendary Brio? Everyone does! I heard the story while growing up in the sub-pack," Brawn said to prevent Nathan from suspecting him. Nathan was quiet for some time as he tried to reason what Brawn said. After that, he said, "I see. . .I never knew the story of Alpha Brio was still told. Alpha Veer put so much effort in preventing that story from being told." "What a pity! Anyway, people still do tell it. . . So what made you an omega then?" Brawn asked as he was curious to know what Nathan was doing in the pack house, serving as an omega. "You know, I wasn't born an omega. My dad was a Delta. But after the death of our Alpha, all the adult members of the Brio family were killed. The pups of the family were forced to become omegas. So I was brought here to join the omegas in the pack house while the rest were taken to the sub-pack house . . . We were just three I know of and I was the eldest of them all. I was twelve years of age then," Nathan explained. Brawn tried to hold himself from getting emotional. The words of Nathan made him suddenly remember the night of the horrific attack. He put in all efforts to suppress his tears but a drop stubbornly strolled down his left cheek which Nathan did not notice. He quickly wiped it off. "I am sorry this happened to you and your family," Brawn apologized. "It is fine. It had been fourteen years now, so I am over it," Nathan said. "Why do you think he brought you alone to the main pack house and not the sub-pack?" Brawn asked. "I don't know. . .probably because I was the eldest so he wanted to keep me within his sight in order to ensure I do not mobilise the other werewolves to plan a revolt or something . . . There was a lot of m******e during the attack. We have lost our Alpha, his family, our beta and our families too. Fighting without a leader is hopeless so revolt is the last thing on my mind or anybody's mind. If Brawn, Alpha Flare's pup, was alive . . ." Nathan said but suddenly stopped when he noticed that he was giving out too much information than he should. Going on would put him at risk of being charged with treason if Brawn reported him. "Anyway, enough about me. Tell me about yourself. Where did you grow?" Nathan tried to change the topic. He did not want to say anything that would put him in trouble. He did not know if Brawn was a scout as the identities of scouts were kept secret from non-scouts, so getting to know Brawn better seemed like the best idea to him. "Well, my parents were lone wolves, they died in the woods after being attacked by some rogues, I was picked up by another lone wolf who handed me to his friend. From his friend to Beta Sinew, to the sub-pack's Head Salutary who raised me alongside four other orphans who are now my brothers," Brawn recited the same story he had always told anyone who asked about his pedigree. "Five boys of about your age range growing together under the same roof? I know you boys gave the head Salutary some headache. He must have settled a whole lot of fights," Nathan said and then shook his head. "I don't think I would want to be that guy. . .seperating fights between male pups often? It is a whole load of work," he concluded. "Well, true though. When we were much younger, we turned the whole place upside down fighting for this and that. There were always salutaries and guardians around so the fight never really got bad. But as we grew older. . .we turned the streets upside down." Brawn chuckled as he spoke. "We start our delivery from here," Nathan said as they approached their first point of delivery, the Deltas quarters, and Nathan stopped the horse. They stopped their conversation and got down from the horse. They went to the cart of bagged meats behind and pulled out the ones allocated to the Deltas.
