"Yes ma'am, I was transferred from the sub-pack yesterday night to join the omegas," Brawn responded with a lot of questions flowing in his head. He wondered if she did not remember him or if she was trying to see if he would lie. He also wondered if she was mocking him. He thought to himself that if she did not remember him, it might be some kind of opportunity for him to make a better impression.
"Oh, you were the one who could not shift, right?" Au asked placing her fingers on her forehead as she recalled.
"Yes ma'am," Brawn said with some feelings of embarrassment. He wondered if that was the best way she could describe him– The one who could not turn. He was thankful that omegas were not to look dignitaries in the eyes. If not he would have been in an awkward situation, trying to avoid eye contact.
The embarrassment hiked as she moved closer to him, trying to see his face. She raised his head with her left fingers under his chin and examined his face. Brawn immediately moved his eyes away as he was too embarrassed to look her in the face.
"Hmmm. . .This face seems familiar. . .I have seen this face before. . .right, Sparkle?" She asked as she turned to the lady omega standing a few meters away from her. She was not talking about knowing him as the one who could not shift. She was talking about seeing him from somewhere else apart from him being the centre of attraction at the shifting ceremony. She was racking her brain to remember but she could not wrap her head around it.
"Yes ma'am, he was the one I bumped into yesterday night at the shifting ceremony ma'am," Sparkle answered.
Brawn took a glimpse at the Sparkle and then returned his eyes to the ground.
"So it was you?" Au said leaning away from him to see his face properly. Brawn tried to return his head to its lowered position but could not lower it fully because her fingers were still under his chin. She came closer to him and raised his head up again.
"Look here! You better watch your steps around here. If you bump into her in this pack house, I will not fail to keep the promise I made to you that night. Have I made myself clear?" She threatened. Her voice changed from the sweet used in talking to the stern one she used for him in the shifting ceremony.
"Yes ma'am," Brawn answered wondering why she was so defensive with Sparkle.
Au gave him a stern look, removed her left fingers from under his chin aggressively and headed to the entrance of the pack building.
Brawn watched her as she left. Sparkle followed her a few steps and stopped halfway. She turned to Brawn and made a sorry face. She rubbed her palms together in a manner showing she was pleading with him not to be upset. After this, she ran after Au. She did this because she knew Au threatened him again because she reminded Au that he bumped into her.
When the two ladies had left Brawn discovered that he did not find Au's threat to be so scary, instead, he found all her actions cute. It was probably because he was attracted to her. He quickly reminded himself that he was in the pack house not as a visiting Alpha that came to pick a mate but as the least in the pack.
He knew harbouring any feeling for her would only attract trouble to him. He had decided earlier that he was going to avoid anything that would make the Alpha remember him. In order to achieve that, he resolved to stay as far from Au as possible.
