CHAPTER 29 - GRANDMOTHER - AVERLY'S POV

1165 Words
''About time!'' I complained, when my sister walked into the courtyard where Aiden and I were sitting at the marble table, with a small fire pit in the center to keep us warm. ''I'm sorry, I'm late,'' She said, her tone subdued, ''I lost track of time, how are you feeling?'' ''Better,'' I smiled as she sat down opposite me at the table, and didn't even look at Aiden, ''The nap helped.'' ''Good,'' She said and poured herself some fire wine. ''Are you okay?'' I asked. My sister hated drinking, especially wine. ''You hate wine.'' ''I'm cold, this will warm me up.'' She responded and took a sip. ''Would you like my cloak?'' Aiden pulled it off, ''It's warm.'' ''I'm fine thank you,'' She said, but he frowned and tossed it around her anyway, causing her to wince as if he'd hit her. ''What's going on?'' I asked, looking between them, ''Did you have a fight?'' ''Well?'' Casey glared at out mate, ''You said you'd tell her over dinner, so tell her!'' Aiden's face fell, as he sat back down. What was going on? The only thing that could hurt Casey this much would be if her vision of Selene came true. I turned to our mate, my heart racing. ''You slept with Selene?!'' Aiden looked up at me, and quickly grabbed my hand, ''No, never!'' He said firmly, ''I don't know what was really going on in Casey's vision, but I would never sleep with anyone but you two.'' Casey gave a disgusted huff, and Aiden's face fell again when she said, ''Who says I'd ever sleep with you. Now, tell her, or I will!'' Aiden kissed my hand, before he released it, and then he told me about my family. I couldn't believe it. I had never cared about our family, not like Casey anyway. I was curious, of course, but they meant nothing to me, especially not now that I knew they'd tried to kill us. ''Oh, I see,'' I nodded, once he'd finished his tale, ''I understand, thank you for telling me the truth, but don't ever lie to me again.'' ''Never,'' Aiden said instantly, looking completely relieved. ''Can we eat now?'' ''Are you serious?'' Casey slammed her hand on the table, and shaking the dishes, ''Is that all you have to say?'' ''What do you want me to say?'' I asked her, ''They tried to kill us, why would I care the Aiden killed them right back.'' ''Not all of them tried to kill us, Averly!'' ''Maybe, but they sure didn't stop our parents, now did they?'' I pointed out, and Casey's eyes darkened in anger. Casey shoved her chair back, letting it crash onto the stones in the courtyard, ''HE'S LIED TO US, OUR WHOLE LIVES ABOUT EVERYTHING! US BEING HIS MATES, OUR FAMILY, THEIR DEATHS, OUR GRANDMOTHER!'' Tears filled her eyes, but she wiped them away angrily, pulled off his cloak and threw it at him. ''I WAS WRONG TO GIVE HIM A CHANCE!'' She screamed, ''BUT I DID IT FOR YOU. EVEN KNOWING HE'D BETRAY US!'' ''Casey, stop!'' I stood up and rushed around the table to her, ''Please, don't do this. You always try to find reasons not to be happy, but you know Aiden, he's not this monster you're building him up to be. He loves us, and I know you love him. Let's just put this behind us and move ahead.'' Casey pushed me away, ''I am not putting anything behind me until I speak to our grandmother.'' ''NO!'' Aiden spoke, and stood up again, ''You're not going anywhere near that b*tch. What would that even achieve?'' ''I can look her in the eyes and ask her how she could do those things.'' Casey stepped closer to her, ''I can look into her eyes and find out why our mother hated her so much that she'd try to kill her own children. I am going, and you will not get in the way.'' ''You might hate me right now, but I am still your King!'' ''I'm calling up my blood debt,'' She said quickly, and Aidens eyes widened in surprise. ''No, I'll give you anything else you want, I'll leave you if you want it, but I will not take you to her!'' Casey walked over to the table, grabbed a knife and cut her hand. ''CASEY!'' I shouted, and went to grab the knife, but Aiden got there quicker and snatched it from her hand and threw it aside. ''Are you mad?'' He shouted, and quickly pulled out his handkerchief and wrapped it around her bleeding hand. ''My blood's been spilled in response to the calling of the debt,'' Casey pointe out, while I glared at her, ''If you don't keep your word, we'll both die.'' ''I KNOW!'' He shouted, as he grabbed her arms and shook her a little, ''WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS?!'' ''Are you taking me or not?'' Was her only stubborn response. Aiden released her and growled furiously before grabbing the table, muscles bulging, as he threw it across the room. It shattered against the stone wall, and I stepped back in shock. He took a deep breath, and turned back to us, ''We will go in the morning,'' He said, ''I will fly us, and I don't want to hear any complaining about flying. I've told Nanny to prepare you a new dinner. Go back inside where it's warmer.'' He turned and marched back into the castle, and I turned to my sister. ''Why did you have to do this?!'' I shouted angrily, ''I don't want to see her. She killed her own twin. I could never do that to you!'' ''Then don't come, but I'm going. I want answers.'' ''Answers for what purpose? They won't change what she's done,'' I argued, ''What you need to do is forgive Aiden, he didn't do anything wrong. I'm glad he killed them all. We'd be dead if it weren't for our mate!'' Casey didn't answer, she turned and walked back inside through our doors, and I heard Nanny say something, before Casey just opened and shut the bedroom door. ''What is wrong with Casey?'' Nanny asked as she walked outside. She was in her robe, clearly thinking she had the night off, ''Why... What happened?'' She gestured to the table. ''Aiden and Casey had a fight,'' I told her, as some maids came into the courtyard. Aiden must have called for them. ''I see,'' Nanny nodded slowly, ''Come away, child, let the servants do their job, ''I've got them bringing food into your dining room.'' ''Alright.'' I said, and allowed her to pull me inside. I hardly ate anything, and when I finally went into our bedroom, the lights were off and Casey was in her bed fast asleep. I climbed into her bed, and hugged her. I hated it when we fought. What would I do if she didn't forgive Aiden? Would I forever been torn between them both?
