''Are you sure you want to do this?'' I asked my sister as we sat in the training gym. ''What if it ends up being a waste of time? We don't know these crystals can hold your power.''
''I asked the Supreme while she was here for the engagement party,'' Aiden told me, as he watched on with his arms crossed, ''They'll hold her energy.''
''What if someone gets their hands on her power?'' I tried another tact.
''My moonlight, do you really think I haven't taken precautions against this?'' Aiden asked, ''Once the crystals are locked away, only my blood can open the vault.''
''But... it's pointless, we can do this together. You don't have to store power.''
''You might be able to do it, but I can't.'' Ava argued. ''This is just a precaution.''
I nodded and watched her sit down, surrounded by a colorful array of crystals. Each one sparkled under the dim light,
Ava closed her eyes and as she concentrated, I felt the energy swirling around us. It felt alive, almost as if it had a will of its own, and my heart raced. She had to succeed. I looked at the crystal begin to glow as her power seeped into it, before the beam of energy moved the second crystal, and began to fill it with Ava's energy.
She was just about to begin the transfer to the third one when she gasped and held her chest, and panic filled her face.
''Ava stop,'' I pleaded, but she continued, so I turned to our mate. ''Aiden stop her, please.''
''Okay, Ava, stop, that's enough for today,'' Aiden ordered, and picked her up, ''Let's get you home to rest, my sunshine. Amere, store these safely and have them guarded.''
''Yes, your majesty.'' He bowed as we left and went back to our wing.
Aiden laid Ava in her bed, and wound her arms around his neck, ''Stay.''
He smiled, kissed her and then unwound her arms, ''I can't, I have an important meeting with Ryker. I love you, and I will see you both for dinner.''
He gave us each a kiss and left, with me peeking at him, as he walked away, before looking back at my twin.
''Ava you rest,'' I kissed her forehead, and pulled the covers up, ''I'll see you later.''
''Bring me a present when you come back,'' She ordered and snuggled up to her pillow.
''Spoilt brat,'' I giggled.
I left her for my lessons, after which I decided to enjoy the last of the sunshine before the sunset, and the night set in. I chose a nice warm spot in the garden and laid back on my elbows, with my face to the sky.
''Enjoying the heat?''
I turned and saw Nolan walking over to me, with a few women watching him and giggling.
''I am, it's lovely today.''
''May I join you?''
I shrugged, and he sat down, ''It's not going to work you know.''
''What?''
''This little plan of yours to befriend me so Aiden will take off the collar. That's between you and your brother.''
''That's not what I'm doing. I genuinely enjoy your company.''
''You don't even know me,'' I rolled my eyes, ''You know nothing about my company.''
''I don't know why you're so hostile?'' He asked, ''All I did was drop you from the sky. Hatchlings get it done all the time and I've said I'm sorry. Aiden literally kills your whole clan, and you forgive him, and even marry him, but with me, you won't even.''
''What did you say?!'' I cut him off mid-sentence and sat up, ''Aiden did what?''
''Your family.'' He frowned as he looked over at me, ''I.... oh sh*t... I thought you knew. I never thought he'd propose marriage and not tell you the truth about your family.''
''You're lying!'' I shouted, as I jumped up, ''He wouldn't.... he doesn't even know our family, he said we were found in the forest.''
''I'm sorry to be the one to tell you the truth, but I'm not lying, he is.'' Nolan told me, his face sympathetic. ''He killed them all.''
''No,'' I felt like my stomach had dropped out of me, and my heart was racing. ''NO!'' I shoved him back and started running towards the castle at top speed with my guards following. I weaved through the crowds and staff in the castle, taking the stairs two at a time and I climbed to the upper levels where the offices were.
No.... no... no. He wouldn't have... he couldn't have.
When I reached his office, I went to pass the guards but the moved their swords in front of me, ''We're sorry Luna, but the King is in a meeting with Beta Ryker.''
''Luna,'' Aidens receptionist, Angela, called out, ''I can ask the King to find you after, he shouldn't be much longer, if.''
''SHUT UP AND MOVE!'' I shouted, and everyone looked shocked. I threw up my hands and the guards went flying, before I shoved the doors open and ran inside to see Aiden jumping up from his chair.
''CASIDY WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING?!''
I didn't answer, instead I turned to Ryker, ''GET OUT!''
''CASIDY!'' Aiden shouted again, but I screamed.
''GET OUT NOW!'' I shouted, and all the objects in the room shook.
''Leave us!'' Aiden ordered, and Ryker quickly left looking confused and worried.
''Casey, what has happened?'' Aiden asked once the doors closed again, ''Is Ava okay?''
''I am going to ask you this once, and I swear to the Goddess if you lie to me, I will never you will NEVER see me again.''
''Casey calm down,'' Aiden took a step closer but I held up my shaking hand.
''DON'T COME NEAR ME!'' I shouted, my rage was all consuming, ''DID YOU KILL MY FAMILY?!''
Aiden's eyes widened, and he stepped back in surprise. He looked into my eyes, his hands clenched into fists, and then he said the words that crushed my head, ''Yes.''
