UNTIL SHE’S MINE AGAIN

1610 Words
JAKOB I watch her for hours. Even with the bandage wrapped around her head and her face pale against the pillows, Mia is breathtaking. I’ve spent years trying to scrub her ghost out of my mind, and now she is right here, in my bed, breathing the same air. I have a glass of water ready the second her eyes flutter open. She looks disoriented, her gaze drifting around the room before landing on me. “Hey,” I say softly, reaching out to help her sit up. “Take it slow. You’ve got a nasty bump on your head.” She stares at me like she’s seen a ghost. Not that I blame her. I never thought I’d be back here either. “Jakob?” she whispers, her voice cracking as she squints. “I thought… I thought you were just a figment of my imagination.” I can’t help it. I lean back and let a small smirk play on my lips. “Do you see my face in your imagination often, Mia?” Her expression snaps from shock to pure irritation. She groans, pushing the covers back and trying to swing her legs over the side of the bed. “Forget it. I have to leave.” “Whoa, hey,” I say, moving quickly to steady her shoulders. “I’m sorry. I was joking. Just stay still for a second, you’re still shaky.” She brushes my hands off, anger flashing in her eyes. “Don’t talk to me like that. You don’t get to play games with me. I’m a married woman, Jakob. I saw your text and blocked you. What? You couldn’t take a hint? How did you even know where I was?” Her brows furrow. “Were you stalking me?” “What? f**k no.” She doesn’t seem convinced. “Mia, this is a cabin in the woods. It’s a ten minute walk from where I found you, and it’s a good thing I did. By the way, why were you all alone? Why wasn’t this husband of yours with you?” She swallows hard and looks away from me. For a second, I see her blink to fight back her tears. The weight of what I know hits me then. I pull my phone from my pocket. “I know who your husband is, Mia. Or… who he was.” I show her the screen. The headline is plastered across every tabloid site in the pack. “Vice President of the Dark Lords Confirmed Dead.” The video shows her with some irritating rando in the parking lot of a cafe. The color drains from her face completely. She collapses back onto the mattress, her eyes welling up instantly. I can’t stand the distance between us. I reach out, taking her hand in mine. The spark is still there—that electric current I haven’t felt in years. Her skin is warm, slightly clammy from shock, and the moment our palms touch, heat shoots straight to my groin. She looks even more beautiful now than the day we broke up, the day I made the mistake I will spend the rest of my life making up for. Her pulse flutters wildly under my thumb, and I can smell the faint, sweet scent of her skin mixed with the sterile antiseptic smell still clinging to her. “I’m going to be here for you,” I tell her, my voice dropping an octave, rougher than I intend. “Whatever you need.” Mia lets out a harsh, wet scoff. “You’ll be here? Where were you when I actually needed you? You cheated on me with my cousin! I don’t need a damn thing from you.” “I was drugged, Mia,” I snap. “I’ve been trying to tell you that for years.” She laughs, a bitter, jagged sound. “Right. You’re still holding on to that excuse.” Not anymore. Now that she’s here, I intend to do what I should have done all those years ago; give her solid proof. I came back to Blackwater with it. I stand up, walk over to the chest at the foot of the bed, and pull out a medical envelope and toss it onto her lap. “I had myself tested the very next morning. Traces of a sedative and a hallucinogen were in my system. I tried to show you, but you vanished.” She goes quiet, staring at the results. The silence stretches between us, thick and heavy. My heart races with every second that passes. She sucks in a deep breath. “It doesn’t change anything, Jakob.” Fuck. “Maybe not,” I move even closer, the mattress dipping under my weight. The air between us feels charged, heavy with years of unsaid things and the faint, intoxicating scent of her. “But I’ve missed you. Every day. I didn’t think I’d survive without you.” I sit on the edge of the bed, the scent of her skin filling my senses — warm, sweet, with that underlying feminine musk that always drove me crazy. I lean in, my nose brushing the curve of her neck. Her skin is soft, slightly damp from emotion, and I can feel the rapid flutter of her pulse against my lips. Her breath hitches sharply, warm and shaky against my cheek. I can hear it then: the frantic, thudding rhythm of her heart and the sharp, shallow hitch in her breath. I’m not crazy. Whatever I’m feeling right now, she feels it too. “I want to kiss you so badly right now, Mia,” I murmur against the skin of her neck, my voice low and rough, my lips grazing the sensitive spot just below her ear. “And I need you to stop me.” She doesn’t say a word. Her eyes are wide, dark with a mix of shock and a heat I recognize all too well. Her chest rises and falls faster, n*****s visibly tightening beneath the thin fabric of her shirt. The air between us crackles. When she reaches up, her hands landing on my chest, I think she’s pulling me closer. I feel the friction of her palms against my shirt, the heat of her touch burning through the cotton straight to my skin. My c**k twitches hard in my jeans at the contact. I don’t wait. I lean in and crash my lips against hers. It’s intense—a desperate, hungry kiss fueled by years of regret and longing. Her mouth is soft and hot, tasting faintly of salt from her tears. The second our lips meet, a low groan rips from my throat. I deepen the kiss instantly, tongue sliding against hers, devouring the sweet, needy moan that vibrates from deep in her chest. She tastes like sin and home at the same time. My hand slides to the back of her neck, fingers tangling in her hair, holding her exactly where I want her while my other hand moves lower, cupping the heavy weight of her breast through her shirt. Her n****e is already hard, pressing into my palm like it’s begging for attention. I squeeze gently, then rougher, thumb brushing over the stiff peak, feeling her gasp into my mouth. Fuck, I want to rip this shirt down, free her t**s, suck those pretty n*****s until she’s writhing and begging. My c**k is rock-hard, straining painfully against my zipper, throbbing with the need to be buried inside her again. For a second, it feels like she’s melting into me, the world outside this room slowly disappears. Her fingers curl into my shirt, pulling me tighter, her breath coming in short, needy pants against my mouth, her body arching into my touch. Until she pushes me away, and her right hand collides with my cheek. The sound cracks through the room, sharp enough to make my ears ring. My head snaps to the side, the sting blooming across my cheek, hot and immediate. “Take me home,” she hisses, her voice trembling with rage. “Now. I never want to see your face again.” I touch my jaw, the pain secondary to the ache in my chest — and the throbbing hardness still straining against my zipper. She’s shaking violently, rage burning in her gaze, but her lips are swollen and glistening from my kiss, her n*****s still peaked and obvious through her shirt, and the sweet scent of her arousal still lingers faintly in the air between us. I’ve pushed too hard, too fast. Damn it, Jakob! “I’ll take you back,” I say, regaining my composure. “But you need to rest first. You’re not fit to travel yet.” “I heal fast,” she snaps. “I’m leaving now.” She’s so f*****g stubborn, isn’t she? Just as I remember. I hide the smile on my face, refusing to annoy her any further. “Fine. Let’s go.” I hadn’t planned to go into town so soon, but I’ll do anything for her. As I start the engine of the truck, watching her stare out the window in stony silence, I grip the steering wheel a little tighter. My lips still tingle from her taste, my cheek burns from her slap, and my c**k is still half-hard from the feel of her breast in my hand and the way she moaned into my mouth. She can hate me all she wants for now. It doesn’t matter. I have her back in my world, and I’m not going to stop until she’s mine again.
