In the CK Group's General Manager's office, Georgina sat on her chair, shooting a cold glance at Nicholas, seething with anger. Daniel Croft was into real estate, but behind him stood the mighty Godfrey family, the top dogs in San Francisco!
He was the best prospect to secure the five million investment the company desperately needed, and Nicholas just had to mess things up. He'd certainly blow his fuse over what happened.
"Why the hell did you bring Nicholas here? It's a disaster waiting to happen!" Georgina muttered to herself, easing the tension in her temples.
"What are you still doing here? Get lost!" she snapped at Nicholas, her eyes blazing with fury.
"Fine," Nicholas grumbled and turned to leave. His unremorseful attitude blasted Georgina's fumes to the top.
All her friends and sisters had married well-off guys, living in luxury with multiple properties worth millions. And then there was Nicholas, making her feel more and more aggrieved. Tonight was the Clark family's annual meeting, and there was no doubt that her family would mock her again for marrying him.
Down at the CK Group's parking lot, "What the! Who the f**k thrashed my scooter?!" Nicholas bellowed.
'Damn it!'
Man, that scooter had been his ride-or-die for three freaking years! He used it every day to get groceries, and now it's trashed. He knew without a doubt that i***t Daniel Croft was behind this!
Just then, Georgina's company staff passed by, pointing their fingers at him.
"Hey, isn't that Nicholas, Georgina's husband?"
"Yeah, he's the guy."
"Look! He's crying over his thrashed scooter. So lame!"
And the whole lot burst into laughter.
Oblivious to them, Nicholas sighed as he gently caressed his scooter. "Don't worry, Scooty. I'll avenge you. Just wait and see..."
Mumbling to himself, he whipped out his phone and dialed the family's number.
"Hey, it's Nicholas. I'm willing to help the family, but I have two conditions. First, send me a pair of those Crystal Love shoes. Second, do you know about Daniel Croft in the family? I want to see him lose everything."
Barely a moment after the call, his phone buzzed with a text message. It was straight to the point from Georgina: [Nicholas, it's the Clark family's annual meeting tonight. Get a new suit, and don't make a fool of yourself.]
At noon, Nicholas met with his uncle and current head of the Godfrey family, Thomas, in a family-owned villa along the east coast of Warlington.
Nicholas sat on a rocking chair, calmly facing his uncle in silence.
Looking at Nicholas's relaxed posture, Thomas cracked their tension with a chuckle and said, "Nicholas, it's been ages, and you're still as carefree as ever."
"Uncle, I've got something going on tonight, so let's cut to the chase. Tell me how much the family needs," Nicholas said, picking up a juicy cherry and munching on it.
"Not much..." Thomas scratched his head, acting a bit hesitant, which was unusual for the head of the Godfrey family. But he needed help.
"Three billion..."
Nicholas's eyes grew wide. 'What?! Three billion?! Holy Crap!'
"Uh, Uncle, I really have something important to attend to. Gotta run," Nicholas said, standing up, ready to leave.
"Nicholas!" Thomas got anxious too. "Nick, the family desperately needs this money! Without it, we'd be doomed! I can help you with those two conditions! Tonight, I'll make sure Daniel Croft ends up with nothing, and the Crystal Love shoes are on the way."
"Uncle, I want to help, but I don't have that much money," Nicholas sighed, taking a deep breath.
"Nick, will you seriously let the family go down the drain? You have three billion, two hundred million in your bank account!" Thomas urged. "This is your family! You must offer help!"
Nicholas smiled for a moment, but then it faded away. "Uncle, I bought those Southeast Oil shares with my hard-earned money. But my sister-in-law accused me of scheming to divert family funds! Everyone in the family turned against me and kicked me out! Did anyone stand up for me?!"
"You know damn well, I bought those shares with my hard-earned money!" All of Nicholas's bottled-up grievances exploded in that second.
"For these past few years, I've been living as a live-in son-in-law, treated worse than a dog, and not a single family member came to check on me!"
"If it weren't for the family's financial crisis, you would all have forgotten about me!" Nicholas clenched his fists, emphasizing each word.
"Nick, we admit our mistakes. We apologize, but the family really needs this money now..." Thomas approached, holding onto Nicholas's arm. He sighed heavily and said, "Nick, if you're willing to help the family, I'll make arrangements and appoint you as the President of Zion Entertainment. You can even start tomorrow if you like. I'll pick the best secretary to assist you."
Zion Entertainment, a production company run by the Godfrey family, was one of the most promising companies in the industry that managed several A-list stars and countless second-line stars.
Zion Entertainment had always been under the management of Nicholas's sister-in-law, but now the patriarch was willing to hand it over to him.
Nicholas thought for a moment and nodded.
"Okay, I'll do it. But I have to go."
Although three billion was way too much for acquiring Zion Entertainment, seeing his uncle almost in tears begging him for money made him take the deal.
With that, Nicholas turned to leave. He had a lot going on today. Aside from the Clark family's annual meeting tonight, he had something important to attend; his high school reunion.
It had been so long since he saw his high school buddies, and he was really looking forward to it. The entire class would be there, and rumor had it even their beautiful head teacher would attend.
